Klaten Square chosen as a location considering its main function as public open space. The facts indicate that it has undergone a transfer of function and has experienced abuse of use as a place of commercial activity by the informal sector. The purpose of this study is to map the location, behavior, time and activity of the discrepancy of the utilization of Klaten Square and what factors caused it to occur. The method is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through place-centered mapping and people-centered mapping. Theories regarding public space, behavior and territorial settings are used to analyze the data. The results of the study show that there’re discrepancies in the utilization of Klaten Square due to the diversity of users with various activities in certain places and at certain times. The results of this study can provide input to the local government to develop public spaces that are able to accommodate user activities and improve control and supervision of the regulations that have been set.

Abstract

The transformation of Nusantara architectures is more discussed in the variety of visual languages. The structure and construction of Nusantara architectures become an agent to form recent variants while sustaining the visual style identities. So the forces and loads resemble architectural appearance. The structure and construction that had changed, indicating the sustained development of Nusantara architectures. The houses in the South Sulawesi have presented this for instance. This study aims to examine the structural capabilities and construction of Nusantara architectures transformed into developing variants. Descriptive methods are implemented to discuss Bugis houses in Makassar and Bulukumba, and Selayar house in Selayar Island. The results present that the variants of the Nusantara architectures are formed because of the application of a structural system that does not change. It adapts to the context of the site contours and the selection of construction wood materials available on site.

Abstract

The rise of urban sprawl - menggurita is a phenomenon resulting from the growth and development of the city as a center of activity and the economy. The sprawl is characterized by the growth of low-density settlements that scattered randomly in suburban areas or peripherals. The growth spread like the octopus tentacles that propagate this causes various effects of negative externalities in the form of pollution, energy efficiency, economic equity, and transportation problems. Based on these problems, this study aims to provide a solution interpretation in dealing with the phenomenon of a city that is overflowing, by studying deeper into the compact city as compacting system or combining the functions of land use and urban activities that are expected to reduce the effects of urban sprawl. By using the critical review method, which focuses on providing explanations, interpretations of the analysis from several literature selected to be used as a reference in finding solutions according to urban compaction loci in dealing with urban sprawl problems. From critical review searches, it is concluded that a compact city is an innovative solution to the phenomenon of random city development (urban sprawl development). One of them by implementing Urban Growth Boundaries (UGB) provides an alternative solution to the problem of sprawl. The compact city promises efficiency in city management. By maximizing the livability of the city and city services, the compactness form symbolizes a form that integrates all the optimal conditions of the city for the sustainability of a city in the future.

Abstract

Traditional Balinese architecture is very closely related to culture and religion of Hindu in Bali. Traditional Balinese architecture is also inseparable from the philosophies or concepts contained. The Balinese architecture can be divided into several types of buildings, namely, buildings of Pura (holy places) and buildings of Puri (houses/housing). Traditional Balinese housing consists of several buildings that have different functions, building form, and layouts. Buildings in traditional Balinese housing are, bale meten/bale daja, bale dangin/bale adat, bale dauh, paon/kitchen, jineng/klumpu, and merajan/sanggah (holy place). Bale Daja/Bale Meten is the first building built in traditional Balinese housing. The study of the characteristics of bale meten was carried out with the aim of knowing the characteristics and development process of bale meten sakutus buildings in terms of layout in a housing area, building functions, building form, and materials used. The results of this study will also add references about bale meten especially bale meten sakutus so that it can preserve the values contained. The research approach used in this study is based on descriptive qualitative research methods with a naturalistic approach. This research method is used to describe the facts that occur in the field related to the condition of bale meten in the case study, the functions of buildings, building form, layout and the development process. This study uses three case studies of bale meten sakutus in the Gianyar and Badung regions. This is due to the lack of the existence of bale meten sakutus buildings in other areas.

Abstract

Increased demand for residential housing along with the development of human population over time increasing in number, while the land to accommodate those needs tend to be fixed. The presence of skyscrapers buildings as a solution to the problems of land availability is shrinking. But the presence of skyscrapers buildings will require the need for energy in the building process - for example the circulation, the use of air conditioning or for lighting - are increasing as well. This is because the design of building skyscrapers tend to require large energy resources in the operation. While the availability of natural resources over time diminishing in the face of the earth in occupying the demand for energy. Unlike the traditional building which to focus on the concept of eco-friendly and not too much exploring natural resources in process. Ken Yeang's designs are different from other architects. Ken Yeang see the building skyscrapers today such as a refrigerator or freezer is cold and cool in it, but the heat outside. Ken Yeang trying to create a harmonious building with an Environmental in which the building is located. Purpose of this research to analyze the theories or concepts, methods and applications of architect Ken Yeang in response to the above phenomena. The method used in this study was content analysis.

Abstract

Traditional architecture is an architecture that is constructed based on or in accordance with the rules of the tradition adopted (Saliya, 2015). Traditional Balinese architecture is built following the layout, spatial layout and layout based on the concept of Asta Kosala Kosali and Asta Bumi (son, 1984). The architecture of traditional Balinese dwelling house is one of Indonesia's architectural works that need to be preserved and developed without eliminating the rules of local wisdom in Bali. In the setting of traditional Balinese homes in general has some period of building, among others: Holy place, Bale Meten (Bale Daje), Bale Dangin, Bale Dauh, Kitchen (Paon), and Jineng/Klumpu (place to store rice). The concept in traditional Balinese architecture is one of the concepts used in the technique of housing arrangement based on the anatomy of the Human Body (anthropometry) owner. The study uses the quasi experiment design. At this stage, modelling building "Sakenem" in the village of central Singapadu. In this study, the size made for the modeling of Bale Sakenem buildings has been adapted to the antopometry of the users to obtain the size of the height of Saka, Bale-bale, and body that meets the comfort of the user's antopometric. After the modeling and comfort assessment, the results obtained positive and significant comfort assessment of all aspects of the high Saka, Bale-bale height, and the height of the trunk in the Bale Sakenem building in the village of Singapadu Tengah.
