Abstract

In the contemporary era, moral crises often separate the social and spiritual dimensions of human ethics, creating a void in a comprehensive understanding of morality. Therefore, this study critically analyzes and synthesizes the thoughts of two of the most influential Muslim thinkers in the field of ethics (akhlaq), Al-Ghazali and Ibn Miskawaih. This research aims to answer how these two thinkers construct the concept of morality within the context of Islamic ethics. This study employs a qualitative analysis with a comparative approach. Primary texts of Al-Ghazali and Ibn Miskawaih are examined to identify similarities and differences in their views on morality. The theoretical framework utilized includes Islamic ethical theory and moral philosophy, allowing for a deeper understanding of the values espoused by both figures. The findings indicate that while Al-Ghazali emphasizes the spiritual aspect and the relationship between humans and God, Ibn Miskawaih focuses more on character development and social ethics. Nevertheless, both contribute significantly to the understanding of morality in Islam. This synthesis of thought is expected to provide new and relevant insights for contemporary studies of Islamic ethics, bridging the dichotomy between the spiritual and social aspects of morality that frequently occurs today. So This study offers an integrative moral framework that is valuable for advancing contemporary Islamic ethical discourse

Abstract

The Qur'an, as the Divine revelation, possesses unparalleled linguistic beauty, where every element of language functions not only to convey a message but also to evoke awe through its structure and rhythm. One of the key elements contributing to this beauty is the fawasil of the verses (the closure of the verses). This study focuses on the rhetorical beauty of the fawasil in Surah Al-Insyirah, which has unique characteristics in terms of diction, rhythm, and phonetic harmony. The methodology used is a descriptive-analytical literature review, analyzing data from relevant sources along with theories of balaghah (rhetoric) and rhetoric in the Qur'an. The focus of this research is to explore how the rhetorical structure of the fawasil in Surah Al-Insyirah not only serves as a verse closure but also enriches the meaning and provides a profound emotional impact on the reader or listener. The results show that the fawasil in Surah Al-Insyirah contain extraordinary rhythm and sound harmony, which further emphasize the power of the Qur'anic language in delivering the Divine revelation. This rhetorical beauty not only creates phonetic harmony but also strengthens the message and meaning contained in each verse. Therefore, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of the rhetorical power in the Qur'an, specifically in the fawasil of Surah Al-Insyirah, demonstrating that the Qur'anic language is not merely a tool of communication but also an exceptional and unparalleled work of literature.

Abstract

This paper examines the Quranic paradigm in solving the problem of radicalism that is developing in the world today. One of the root causes of radicalism is poverty and economic inequality. Meanwhile, religion is only a trigger. The results of this research show that poverty, inequality and injustice are the main factors in the birth of radicalism. Islam is a way of salvation and peace that never teaches radicalism to its adherents. Efforts to break the chain of radicalism must be done with an economic approach. Considering that many acts of radicalism come from within Muslims, it is necessary to strengthen the economy among Muslims. This action is an effort to stem and stop acts of terror and radicalism that are mostly carried out by Muslim groups. Some of these efforts include optimizing the potential of philanthropy to improve the circulation of the ummah's internal finances.

Abstract

Gender justice remains a central discourse in contemporary Islamic studies, particularly in societies where patriarchal cultural norms are often legitimized through rigid and atomistic interpretations of Qur’anic texts. This study examines the epistemology of gender justice in the Qur’an by employing thematic interpretation (tafsir maudhu’i) as a methodological tool to deconstruct patriarchal readings of equality verses. Using qualitative library research, this study integrates Bayani (textual–linguistic), Burhani (rational–sociological), and Irfani (ethical–spiritual) epistemologies to analyze selected Qur’anic verses, including QS. An-Nahl: 97, QS. Ali ‘Imran: 195, QS. An-Nisa: 124, and QS. Al-Hujurat: 13. The findings demonstrate that the Qur’an consistently affirms the fundamental equality of men and women in creation, spiritual responsibility, and divine reward. Patriarchal bias arises not from the Qur’anic text itself, but from ahistorical and partial interpretive frameworks. This study contributes an integrated Bayani–Burhani–Irfani (BBI) epistemological model as a systematic approach for gender-just Qur’anic interpretation within contemporary Islamic thought.

Abstract

Contemporary Islamic Da’wah faces a complex ethical dilemma due to mediatization pressures demanding entertainment (engagement) while simultaneously maintaining moral integrity. This research aims to examine the ethical limits of humor (mazhaka) and mockery (istihza’) in Da’wah through the lens of Moral Philosophy. The method employed is qualitative normative-philosophical analysis, examining ethical imperatives based on Maqasid al-Syari’ah and Imam Al-Ghazali’s Tazkiyah al-Nafs theory. The findings confirm that Istihza’ (mockery) based on the principle of Superiority, such as disparaging social status or profession, constitutes a direct violation of Hifz al-’Irdh (protection of dignity), which is categorized as dharuriyyah (primary necessity) in Shari’ah. Philosophically, Istihza’ is a manifestation of the failure of riyadhah al-nafs (spiritual discipline) and contradicts the principle of Tawhid and the ethics of Ihsan which demand humility (tawadhu’) and the application of the Golden Rule of Ethical Reciprocity. Controversial cases in Indonesia serve as empirical evidence that the risk of collective harm (mafsadah), amplified by digital viral dynamics, outweighs the purported benefit of entertainment. Therefore, digital Da’i are mandated to implement Predictive Ethical Consequence Analysis to maintain authentic moral authority.

Abstract

In society, people often give gifts. Many people do not understand the gifts that are forbidden and allowed in Islam. Using the thematic hadith study method, this study examines hadiths related to the prohibition of receiving gifts based on the words of the Prophet PBUH. This study uses thematic literature studies. Data collected from primary and secondary sources were then analyzed using content and documentary analysis techniques. Takhrij is also done to collect relevant hadith and assess its quality using the method of sanad criticism. The results of the study show that the nine books of hadith (Kutubus Tis'ah) contain thirteen narrations that are categorized into five main themes that prohibit accepting prizes: (1) it is forbidden to accept prizes in competitions that contain betting or gambling, (2) it is forbidden to receive prizes during ihram related to the ethics of Hajj and Umrah, (3) it is forbidden to accept gifts in the form of goods that are forbidden to be used to control worldly pleasures,  (4) it is forbidden for officers to receive gifts to prevent corruption and conflicts of interest, and (5) it is forbidden to accept gifts in the form of wages in religious teachings that should be given to people who perform the Hajj Of the five main hadiths studied, four are of saheeh quality, and one is of hasan quality. This research emphasizes how important it is to understand the concept of reward in Islam to ensure that it does not conflict with justice and religious moral values.

Abstract

This study examines the Islamic’s phenomenon acculturation and local beliefs among the Banjar people. Although Islam entered through political channels and was accepted collectively, the animistic and dynamic traditions of their ancestors remain strong. This situation prompted scholars of the past to Islamize these traditions, especially those influenced by Hinduism-Buddhism. The objective of this research’s to analyze the background, methodology, and systematic writing of the Sanjata Mukmin tafsir book by Husin Qudri. This study is a literature review with sociology as the main approach in the data presentation process. After reviewing the existing literature, this research identified two main findings. First, this book was written as Husin Qudri's effort to Islamize the conservative views of the Banjar community, who still believe in the power of spirits and objects as sources of salvation. Second, the book is divided into 72 interconnected discussions, using the bil-ma'tsur method of interpretation. It’s evident in Husin Qudri's frequent quotations of the Prophet's hadiths that are relevant to the talks he presents. Finally, this research is essential because, in addition to enriching the intellectual heritage of Islamic interpretation, it also provides insights into Nusantara interpretation books that are rarely exposed to the general public.

Abstract

This article examines the concepts of love and freedom in the thought of Jalaluddin Rumi and analyzes their relevance to contemporary philosophical and humanitarian issues. The study employs qualitative library research by analyzing Rumi’s primary works, including Mathnawi, Fihi Ma Fihi, and Diwan-e Shams, supported by relevant secondary literature. A philosophical hermeneutic approach is used to interpret Rumi’s symbolic language and metaphors in order to uncover their underlying philosophical and spiritual meanings. The findings show that Rumi understands love (mahabbah) as an ontological principle that connects human beings with God, others, and the universe, and functions as the foundation of ethical life. Freedom (hurriyyah), in Rumi’s perspective, is not external or absolute autonomy, but inner freedom achieved through liberation from ego, desires, and worldly attachments. The integration of love and inner freedom forms a coherent spiritual framework that offers a critical perspective on modern understandings of freedom that tend to be individualistic and value-neutral. This study concludes that Rumi’s thought provides a relevant philosophical contribution to contemporary discussions on ethics, spirituality, and the search for meaning, while remaining grounded in the Islamic intellectual tradition.
