Abstract

This article explores the urgency of renewing interpretive methodologies of religious texts within today’s multicultural society. By observing religious practices in three culturally and religiously diverse communities, this study integrates contextual hermeneutics with socio-historical analysis. The findings reveal varying community responses to alternative readings rooted in local wisdom and the objectives of Islamic law (maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah). On one hand, such approaches bridge the gap between scripture and contemporary realities; on the other, they provoke resistance among traditionalists concerned with the risks of relativism. Contextual interpretation serves not only as an epistemological bridge between religious values and cultural diversity, but also as a gateway to more inclusive religious practices. The article emphasizes the need for collaborative strategies among scholars, religious leaders, and policymakers to enhance interpretive literacy and strengthen adaptive religious ethics. Methodological reform is thus not merely an academic issue but a strategic measure to maintain social cohesion amid globalization. Consequently, reinterpreting sacred texts through a contextual lens offers a balanced pathway that preserves tradition while ensuring contemporary relevance.

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of dream interpretation among Generation Z, which has undergone a significant transformation in the digital era. With the widespread use of platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and dream interpretation apps, young people are increasingly moving away from classical methods based on traditional Islamic texts and religious authorities. This research applies a qualitative approach through digital content analysis, a survey of 200 respondents aged 15–25, and case studies on five popular dream interpretation applications. The findings reveal that dream interpretation patterns are dominated by modern symbols such as social media, gadgets, and popular psychology. Approximately 68% of respondents prefer digital interpretations over consultations with religious scholars, and there is a rise in trends such as "instant interpretation" via chatbots or Google search. On the other hand, the prevalence of negative interpretations can trigger spiritual anxiety. These findings suggest that digital platforms are not only reshaping how Gen Z understands dreams but are also reconstructing religious experiences to be more personal and immediate, albeit with the risk of spiritual misinformation. This study recommends fostering digital literacy and developing credible Islamic content to address this phenomenon educationally.

Abstract

This article explores Islamic homeschooling as a form of resistance to the dominance of mainstream education in Indonesia. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the adoption of Islamic-based homeschooling among urban and rural Muslim families. This shift is driven by dissatisfaction with the formal education system, which is often seen as overly secular, standardized, and lacking in spiritual integration. Using a qualitative approach, the study conducted case analyses of ten families practicing Islamic homeschooling in various cities, supported by in-depth interviews and document analysis of curricula and teaching materials. Findings indicate that learning models in Islamic homeschooling are highly creative and contextual, integrating Qur’anic memorization with real-life Islamic projects and curricula tailored to children’s innate disposition (fitrah). Despite challenges such as limited facilities and concerns over socialization, practitioners employ alternative strategies including learning communities and collaborative activities. The article highlights the concept of "Islamic Merdeka Belajar," aiming for holistic education that balances worldly knowledge and spiritual development. Looking ahead, Islamic homeschooling holds great potential to evolve into a hybrid model that collaborates with formal institutions. These findings call for regulatory support and systemic facilitation from the state to legitimize Islamic homeschooling as a vital part of national educational transformation one that is inclusive, value-based, and character-oriented.

Abstract

The emergence of Virtual Umrah, a digitally simulated pilgrimage experience, has sparked debate in the fields of Islamic jurisprudence and contemporary spirituality. This study aims to examine the legitimacy of Virtual Umrah from an Islamic legal perspective, explore users' spiritual experiences, and analyze responses from scholars and the public. Using a qualitative approach based on literature review and secondary data analysis, the study finds that Virtual Umrah cannot substitute for physical umrah, as it fails to fulfill essential legal requirements such as travel (safar) and actual ritual performance. Nonetheless, it holds significant potential as an educational tool to prepare and enhance spiritual awareness. Most users reported increased understanding and emotional connection to religious rituals, despite limitations in sensory and social interaction. Islamic scholars offer divergent views: some consider it a valuable tool for da’wah and learning, while others express concern over a potential dilution of sacred meaning. This study also emphasizes the need for religious guidelines and ethical frameworks to ensure that such innovations do not blur the distinction between symbolic worship and legally valid rituals. Given the rise of VR/AR technologies and the spiritual preferences of the digital generation, Virtual Umrah has the potential to become an effective educational bridge toward a more meaningful real-life pilgrimage experience.

Abstract

This study explores the construction of religious identity within the phenomenon of "Straight-Line Islam" as it unfolds on social media, responding to the dynamics of religious expression in the digital era. Using a multidisciplinary approach involving critical discourse analysis, digital ethnography, and visual semiotic analysis, the research maps how Islamic narratives are shaped and communicated by online communities. The findings reveal that content creators frequently employ religious terminologies such as pure tawhid, anti-bid‘ah, and caliphate as ideological symbols to assert differentiation from other groups, thereby constructing a firm and exclusive Islamic identity. Visually, attributes like robes, niqabs, and particular flags are consistently utilized to reinforce group symbolism. The language used in digital communication tends to be persuasive and emotionally charged, amplified by algorithm-driven virality and the popularity of religious figures. This phenomenon influences followers' self-conception, strengthens online group solidarity, and sacralizes social media as a primary platform for da'wah. However, it also contributes to social segregation, intra-faith polarization, and a diminished space for inclusive religious dialogue. Therefore, this article recommends the development of digital religious literacy rooted in tolerance and collaborative engagement between scholars, educators, and religious figures to foster a healthier religious ecosystem in the digital realm.

Abstract

The prevalence of bullying cases in schools should be a primary concern for educational administrators and school authorities to address promptly in order to protect students. Bullying prevention in schools must be undertaken by all school members, including PAI teachers. This study indicates that PAI teachers play an active role in combating bullying through a unique approach, namely becoming friends to their students. PAI teachers are open to students, always ready to listen to their complaints, act as advisors, and help solve students' problems. This research falls into the category of qualitative research with a descriptive approach and collects both primary and secondary data. The research findings show that bullying behavior often starts from teasing games, calling parents' names, or bothering friends, which can then escalate into fights. Therefore, the role of PAI teachers in preventing bullying is not just as instructors but also as educators who give extra attention to students, teach the meaning of unity and brotherhood, encourage living with mutual care, do not differentiate between students, and often assign group tasks so that students get to know each other better.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to compare the concept of fitrah in Islam and the tabularasa theory in psychology. This article is included in the literature review, using comparative study methods. The results of the research show that the concept of Islamic education and the tabularasa theory have similarities even though these two theories are different. This difference cannot be separated from the paradigm behind the two theories. The concept of fitrah views that humans are born in a clean and holy state, but is accompanied by the potential inherent in babies, such as the potential for monotheism as mentioned in the Al-Qur'an. Meanwhile, the tabularasa theory is a theory that developed in the West which views that humans are born as empty as white paper. This theory rejects the existence of innate ideas in babies, on the grounds that they cannot be proven sensory. So it can be concluded that in the concept of nature the potential that exists in babies will develop according to the environment that influences them, while in the tabularasa theory only sensory experiences obtained from the environment will fill and decorate the blank paper.

Abstract

The development of linguistic abilities in elementary school students is very important, this is because students' linguistic abilities have an influence on students' readiness to take part in learning at a higher level. This research uses a qualitative descriptive research method with literature study (library research). Literature study (library study) is research by collecting data through reading, literature, books, or several other references related to the problem being studied. This research using literature studies utilizes readings related to the research. The research subjects in this study were elementary school students. Based on the research results found, it shows that the theory of multiple intelligences initiated by experts, one of whom is Gardner, reveals the number (plural) of intelligence possessed by each individual. Apart from that, strategies to improve one of the multiple intelligences, namely linguistic intelligence, in elementary school children generally have several methods, here are 5 methods: singing method, field trip method, talking science method, interactive animation-based method, and storytelling method. These five methods are said to be able to train students in improving children's abilities in linguistic intelligence, also through activities that support students' linguistic abilities to be directed in channeling them.

Abstract

This study examines the dialectical process between Islamic teachings and local culture within the practice of dakwah kultural (cultural propagation) in Indonesia. Employing a qualitative case study approach with ethnographic methods, the research analyzes how this interaction unfolds not as a simple accommodation, but as a dynamic field of negotiation, strategic reinterpretation, and hybrid synthesis. The findings reveal a three-stage, non-linear cycle: strategic adaptation of religious messages into cultural frameworks, contested negotiation often involving tension with puritanical perspectives, and the emergence of contextual syntheses that create locally-grounded, "embedded" Islamic practices. These syntheses, visible in rituals, arts, and social ethics, strengthen communal religious identity and social cohesion. However, the process also faces continuous internal critique and challenges from universalist reform movements, highlighting its contested nature. The study concludes that the sustainability of dakwah kultural depends on maintaining the vitality of this dialectic itself. It recommends the integration of cultural hermeneutics into religious education, the facilitation of structured intergenerational dialogue within communities, and institutional support for creative projects that enable this moderate, contextual model of Islam to adapt to globalizing and digital modernities.
