Abstract

Abstract: The development of social media has accelerated the flow of information, but at the same time increased the risk of spreading unverified news (hoaxes), which impacts the social, legal, and ethical aspects of communication. In the context of Islamic scholarship, the concept of tabayyun is a fundamental principle in approaching information to avoid error and harm. This study aims to explain the concept of tabayyun in the Qur’an, analyze Quraish Shihab’s interpretation in Tafsir Al-Mishbah, and examine the relevance and application of the concept of tabayyun in the context of social media. This study employs a qualitative method using a literature review approach (library research) through the analysis of Quranic verses related to tabayyun, Quraish Shihab’s interpretation, and literature on communication ethics and information verification in the digital age. The results of the study indicate that, according to Quraish Shihab, tabayyun emphasizes caution, thorough verification, and moral responsibility in receiving and disseminating information. This concept is relevant as a foundation for digital communication ethics to prevent the spread of hoaxes, protect individual dignity, and foster healthy and equitable communication on social media. This study is expected to strengthen digital literacy based on Qur’anic values and serve as an ethical guideline for society in addressing information challenges in the digital age.

Abstract

This study examines the ideas of Muhammad Abduh regarding the development of Islamic educational objectives as a response to the dualism of education that existed in his time. Abduh criticized traditional education for placing excessive emphasis on memorization and providing limited space for the development of reason, while modern education tended to neglect spiritual values. This research employs a qualitative approach with a library research method. Data were collected through the analysis of Abduh’s works, books, and scholarly journals related to Islamic education. The data analysis technique used is descriptive-analytical. The findings reveal that Muhammad Abduh proposed an integrative educational concept that balances reason and revelation, knowledge and morality, as well as worldly and spiritual life. According to him, the goal of education is to develop individuals who are knowledgeable, morally grounded, rational, and capable of responding to societal changes without abandoning Islamic values. The study concludes that Abduh’s ideas remain highly relevant in contemporary Islamic education, as they bridge the gap between modernity and religious values, although they have been criticized for being overly rationalistic and not fully applicable in practice. This study recommends further development of Abduh’s educational concept in a more contextual and practical manner, so that it can be effectively implemented in the contemporary Islamic education system.

Abstract

This study examines the everyday implementation of four core spiritual concepts in Islamic mysticism repentance (taubat), asceticism (zuhud), sincerity (ikhlas), and cautious piety (wara’) among Sufi order adherents (Jamaah Tarekat) and the general Muslim community. Although these concepts are well established in classical Sufi literature, their practical meanings and applications vary across social contexts. This research aims to analyze how both groups understand, practice, and experience these concepts in daily life. Using a qualitative approach with a multi-site case study design, data were collected through non-participant observation and in-depth semi-structured interviews with ten purposively selected participants, including students, religious teachers, and community members. Data were analyzed through within-site and cross-site thematic analysis. The findings reveal that both groups share a common conceptual understanding of the four spiritual values; however, differences emerge in depth and structure of practice. Jamaah Tarekat tend to internalize taubat, zuhud, ikhlas, and wara’ through systematic spiritual discipline, guidance of a spiritual master, and structured rituals, while the general community practices these values in a more flexible and pragmatic manner integrated with everyday responsibilities. The study concludes that both patterns represent complementary forms of contemporary Islamic spirituality, reflecting a continuum between normative Sufism and neo-Sufism. These findings highlight the relevance of contextualized spiritual education to strengthen ethical character and spiritual resilience in modern Muslim society.

Abstract

The special autonomy granted to Aceh provides significant authority and financial resources to its regional government, particularly in the delivery of public services such as healthcare. This autonomy is expected to enhance the quality, accessibility, and equity of public health services through decentralized decision-making and locally responsive policies. This study aims to analyze the dynamics of health policy and its implementation within the framework of Aceh's special autonomy, focusing on the paradoxes between the distribution of authority, budget allocation, and the results of public health services. The research specifically investigates how regional governance practices impact the effectiveness and equity of healthcare services in the province. Using a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach, the study employs policy study methods and a case study of Aceh. Data were collected from in-depth interviews with key stakeholders, such as health officials, health facility managers, members of the Aceh Regional Parliament, and health workers. Secondary data, including regulatory documents and regional health reports, were also analyzed. The findings reveal significant paradoxes within the health sector, where, despite substantial authority and budget support, the delivery of health services remains inefficient. Disparities between urban and rural areas persist, budget utilization lacks clear prioritization, and institutional capacity remains weak. Political dynamics and administrative challenges further hinder effective policy implementation. The study concludes that the effectiveness of public health services in Aceh is determined more by governance dynamics than by the availability of authority or financial resources alone. Strengthening institutional capacity, improving coordination, and adopting equity-focused policies are crucial for achieving sustainable improvements in public health services.

Abstract

The rise of social media has introduced a new space for the formation and negotiation of religious authority within contemporary Muslim societies. Digital platforms have transformed the ways Islamic knowledge and fatwas are disseminated, accessed, and legitimized, shifting authority from traditional scholarly institutions toward algorithmically amplified religious actors. This transformation raises critical concerns regarding the legitimacy of Islamic fatwas in an era where visibility, popularity, and audience engagement increasingly shape public trust. The growing influence of algorithms challenges long-established models of ulama authority rooted in scholarly competence, methodological rigor, and institutional recognition. This study aims to analyze the shifting dynamics of Islamic scholarly authority in the context of social media and algorithmic governance. It focuses on examining how algorithms influence the circulation of fatwas, redefine patterns of religious legitimacy, and create tensions between scholarly expertise and digital popularity. Employing a qualitative research design with a conceptual–analytical approach, this study relies on systematic literature review and critical discourse analysis of academic publications on Islamic authority, digital religion, and social media published between 2019 and 2026. The findings reveal that social media algorithms play a decisive role in shaping religious visibility and public preference, often privileging simplified, emotionally engaging religious content over methodologically grounded scholarship. This condition produces a structural gap between traditional ulama authority and digitally popular religious figures. The study further highlights adaptive responses by ulama and religious institutions, ranging from strategic digital engagement to ethical resistance. Theoretically, this research contributes to contemporary debates on religious authority and digital mediation. Practically, it underscores the need for integrating digital ethics and media literacy into Islamic scholarship to safeguard the integrity of fatwa production in the algorithmic age.
