Abstract

The transformation of technology-based national health services has changed the way adolescents access and utilize health information. This situation places digital health literacy as a critical competency in supporting non-communicable disease prevention behaviors from an early age. This study aims to analyze the integration of digital health literacy into non-communicable disease prevention behaviors among urban Indonesian adolescents. The study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design, involving adolescents aged 15–18 years who reside in urban areas and have access to digital technology. Data were collected through an online questionnaire that measured digital health literacy and non-communicable disease prevention behaviors, then analyzed using descriptive and inferential analysis. The results showed that adolescents' digital health literacy levels were in the moderate to high category, with the greatest variation in the ability to critically evaluate digital health information. Digital health literacy was shown to be significantly associated with non-communicable disease prevention behaviors, particularly in aspects of physical activity and healthy eating. Adolescents with better digital health literacy tended to demonstrate more consistent preventive behaviors, even after accounting for sociodemographic factors. This study confirms that digital health literacy is a critical determinant in shaping adolescent health behaviors in the digital era. Integrating digital health literacy into health promotion programs and non-communicable disease prevention policies is expected to increase the effectiveness of technology-based health interventions and support sustainable adolescent health development.

Abstract

Post-COVID-19 pandemic, Generation Z faces increased psychosocial distress characterized by anxiety, stress, and difficulties in social adaptation. At the same time, social media has become an integral part of this generation's lives and has the potential to act as a means of mental health literacy. This study aims to analyze the role of social media as a medium for mental health literacy for Generation Z in coping with post-pandemic psychosocial distress. The study used a quantitative approach with a survey design, involving Generation Z respondents who actively use social media. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire that measured social media usage patterns, mental health literacy levels, and psychosocial distress levels, then analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical techniques. The results show that Generation Z has a high intensity of social media use and is actively exposed to mental health content. Respondents' mental health literacy levels are in the moderate category, with relatively good abilities in recognizing emotional problems, but still limited in in-depth understanding and application of appropriate coping strategies. Social media plays a role as a facilitator for increasing mental health literacy, especially through relevant and easily accessible psychoeducational content. Mental health literacy has been shown to contribute to reducing levels of psychosocial distress, thus acting as a protective factor for the psychological well-being of Generation Z. However, without adequate literacy, social media also has the potential to amplify psychosocial distress through exposure to negative content and misinformation. This study emphasizes the importance of strengthening social media-based mental health literacy as a promotive and preventive strategy for Generation Z.

Abstract

Chronic disease is a major health problem that continues to increase in line with changes in modern lifestyles, characterized by low physical activity and high levels of sedentary behavior. The current approach to chronic disease prevention has been dominated by structured exercise, which in practice is often difficult to implement consistently due to time constraints and the demands of daily activities. This study aims to comprehensively examine chronic disease prevention strategies through micro-workouts and modern daily activities as a more adaptive and sustainable approach to physical activity. This study used a systematic literature review method with a narrative synthesis of open-access journal articles published in the last ten years. The analysis was conducted by grouping research findings based on key themes, including the relationship between physical activity and chronic disease, the effectiveness of micro-workouts, the role of modern daily activities, and factors supporting and inhibiting implementation. The study results indicate that consistent, short-duration physical activity can provide significant health benefits, including improved cardiovascular health, metabolic control, and reduced sedentary behavior. Modern daily activities have been shown to increase total accumulated physical activity without the need for structured exercise. This study concludes that the integration of micro workouts and modern daily activities is a realistic, effective, and appropriate chronic disease prevention strategy that is in line with the lifestyle characteristics of modern society, and has the potential to support promotive and preventive efforts in public health.

Abstract

Microplastic pollution has become a global environmental issue that is gaining increasing attention due to its potential impacts on human health. One of the main routes of microplastic exposure is through household drinking water consumption. This study aims to analyze the presence of microplastics in household drinking water and examine its relationship with gastrointestinal health disorders in the community. This study used an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. Data were collected through household drinking water sampling and a health survey of respondents who use the water source. Laboratory analysis was conducted to identify the presence, shape, size, and type of microplastics in the water samples using filtration and microscopic identification methods. Respondent health data were obtained through structured interviews using a questionnaire containing information on respondent characteristics and gastrointestinal complaints experienced. The results showed that microplastics were found in most household drinking water samples, characterized by plastic fragments and synthetic fibers of varying sizes. The most frequently reported gastrointestinal complaints by respondents included abdominal pain, indigestion, diarrhea, and constipation. Data analysis indicated a trend towards an association between exposure to microplastics in household drinking water and an increased incidence of gastrointestinal health disorders. These findings suggest that microplastics in drinking water have the potential to be a risk factor affecting community gastrointestinal health. Therefore, efforts to control plastic pollution and improve the quality of drinking water management are important steps in protecting public health from exposure to microplastics.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of digital communication technologies has transformed the way young people interact, form relationships, and experience social connection. While digital platforms offer unprecedented opportunities for communication and networking, emerging evidence suggests that intensive online engagement may also contribute to new forms of social isolation. This study examines the phenomenon of digital loneliness among young adults by analyzing patterns of digital interaction, perceived social connection, and the role of digital literacy. The research adopts a quantitative approach using survey data collected from young individuals who actively use social media and other digital communication platforms. Data analysis focuses on identifying relationships between frequency of digital interaction, quality of online communication, and perceived feelings of loneliness. The findings indicate that high levels of digital engagement do not necessarily translate into meaningful social relationships. Many respondents report frequent online communication but experience limited emotional depth in their interactions. Algorithm driven content exposure and constant social comparison further intensify feelings of isolation despite apparent social connectivity. The study also reveals that digital literacy plays a crucial moderating role. Individuals with higher levels of digital literacy demonstrate stronger awareness of platform dynamics, better control over digital consumption patterns, and a greater ability to develop purposeful online interactions. These results highlight the importance of strengthening digital literacy as a strategy to reduce the negative social consequences of intensive digital media use. Effective digital engagement requires not only technical competence but also critical awareness of how digital environments shape social experiences. Strengthening these competencies can support healthier patterns of communication and help reduce the risk of digital loneliness among young adults.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a non-communicable disease whose prevalence continues to increase globally and poses a serious challenge to public health systems. The increase in diabetes cases is influenced not only by genetic and clinical factors but also by changes in people's lifestyle behaviors such as unbalanced diets, low physical activity, obesity, and smoking habits. Therefore, a behavioral data-based risk prediction approach is crucial to support early detection and disease prevention strategies at the population level. This study aims to develop a diabetes mellitus risk prediction model based on community lifestyle and physical activity data using a machine learning approach. The study used a quantitative design with a predictive analysis approach. The research data consisted of health behavior variables such as body mass index, physical activity, diet, smoking habits, and sleep duration. The analysis process was carried out through data preprocessing, variable exploration, machine learning model development, and model performance evaluation using accuracy, precision, recall, and ROC-AUC metrics. Several machine learning algorithms were applied to identify patterns of association between behavioral factors and diabetes mellitus risk. The results showed that the developed prediction model was able to identify individuals at risk of diabetes with a good level of accuracy. Body mass index, physical activity level, and dietary patterns emerged as the most influential factors in the prediction model. These findings suggest that lifestyle behavior data can be utilized as important indicators in a community diabetes risk screening system. The resulting prediction model has the potential to support the development of a data-driven early detection system and aid in the formulation of more effective diabetes prevention strategies at the community level.

Abstract

Social media use has become an important part of the daily lives of Generation Z. High intensity of use can have an impact on physical and psychological health, especially related to sleep quality and stress levels. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the intensity of social media use with sleep quality and stress levels in Generation Z. The study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The study respondents were Generation Z who actively use social media. Data collection was carried out through a questionnaire that measured the intensity of social media use, sleep quality, and stress levels. The data obtained were then analyzed using correlation analysis to determine the relationship between research variables. The results showed that the intensity of social media use has a significant relationship with sleep quality. Respondents with higher intensity of social media use tend to have lower sleep quality. In addition, the study also found a significant relationship between the intensity of social media use and stress levels. Respondents who use social media more frequently showed higher stress levels compared to respondents who use social media with lower intensity. Other findings showed that poor sleep quality is also related to increased stress levels in respondents. The results of this study indicate that excessive use of social media can impact the sleep health and psychological condition of generation Z. Therefore, managing social media usage time and increasing awareness of digital health are important to support the physical and mental well-being of the younger generation.

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of obesity in adolescents is a major public health challenge in the digital lifestyle era. Changes in activity patterns, increased use of digital devices, and high-energy food consumption habits contribute to the increased risk of obesity in adolescents. This study aims to develop and analyze the effectiveness of a community-based intervention model to prevent obesity in adolescents living in a digital environment. The study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design involving adolescents aged 13–18 years as respondents. The intervention was implemented through a nutrition education program, community-based physical activity enhancement, and the use of a digital platform for monitoring health behaviors. Data were collected through health behavior surveys, body mass index measurements, and physical activity observations before and after the intervention. The results showed that the community-based intervention model was able to improve adolescents' nutritional knowledge, encourage changes in food consumption patterns, and increase participation in physical activity. The use of digital technology in the intervention program was also shown to increase participant engagement and facilitate the process of monitoring health behaviors. In addition, social support from family, school, and community plays a crucial role in maintaining healthy behavior changes in adolescents. This study concludes that integrating a community approach and digital technology can be an effective strategy in preventing obesity in adolescents. The intervention model developed has the potential to be applied more widely in community-based health promotion programs in the digital era.
