Abstract

Background. The Samudera Pasai Kingdom was one of the most famous Kingdoms of its time. Its territorial area has now become the government area of North Aceh Regency, Aceh Province. Samudera Pasai was once called the first Islamic Kingdom in the Southeast Asian region. Purpose. This research aims to find out the symbol of fertility and prosperity of the Samudera Pasai Civilization from the tomb of Sultanah Nahrasyiah. Through field observation and data analysis, anthropological methods are used to understand and analyze human behavior and culture. Method. This method involves using various data collection techniques, including interviews, observations, questionnaires, and document analysis, to obtain in-depth information about a group or society's social, cultural, and mindset. Results. The Samudera Pasai Civilization, during the reign of Sultanah Nahrasyiah, displayed rich symbols of fertility and prosperity. These were evident in various motifs found on the Sultanah's tomb, including banana trees, cotton trees, lotus flowers, and chandeliers. These symbols reflect the civilization's cultural values and beliefs regarding abundance and well-being during this significant historical period. Conclusion. The study results show that the symbols of fertility and prosperity are described as banana tree motifs, cotton tree motifs, lotus flower motifs, and chandelier motifs (chandeliers).

Abstract

Background. This research explores the role of rituals and religion in shaping individual and group identities in various social settings. The background of this research is based on the role of rituals in connecting individuals with their communities and cultural heritage, which gives a deep meaning to collective identity. Purpose. This quantitative study aimed to investigate the preferences of Thai as a foreign language (TFL) learner for ten commonly discussed types of OCF. Specifically, it examined whether these preferences are influenced by four learner variables: proficiency level, first language (L1), foreign language classroom anxiety (FLCA), and foreign language enjoyment (FLE). Method. The study involved 288 university students from Chinese, Japanese, and Korean TFL settings, and the data from questionnaires were analysed using appropriate statistical methods. Results. The findings indicate that, regardless of proficiency level, L1, FLCA, or FLE level, learners prefer more explicit OCF techniques, such as metalinguistics feedback and explicit correction. However, Korean undergraduates scored lower in the majority of OCF strategies (i.e., ignoring, elicitation, recast, explanation, and public feedback) compared to the other participants. Conclusion. This study has significant implications for instructional practices in TFL settings and for L2 lecturers in the classroom. By understanding learners’ preferences for OCF, educators can tailor their instructional approaches to meet the specific needs of their students.

Abstract

Background. This research focuses on the decoding of ancient languages and the complexity of the symbols used by the Egyptian, Mesopotamian, and Indus Valley civilizations. The background of the research is based on the importance of understanding language as a key tool for uncovering the social, spiritual, and administrative lives of past civilizations. Purpose. The purpose of the study was to explain how these symbols can be interpreted using a combination of traditional philological methods and artificial intelligence technology.   Method. The methods used include manual linguistic analysis supported by modern algorithms to speed up the decoding process. Results. The results showed that the symbols of Ancient Egypt were easier to decrypt due to additional documentation, while the symbols from the Indus Valley remained difficult to understand. Symbols from Mesopotamia show complex dual meanings, especially in religious and astronomical contexts. Case studies show that ancient languages are multifunctional tools that reflect advanced social and spiritual structures.   Conclusion. The conclusion of the study confirms that an interdisciplinary approach is essential to uncover more secrets from past civilizations. This research enriches the understanding of ancient languages and shows that technology can speed up the decoding process, although it is not yet fully adequate. This contribution paves the way for further research involving global collaboration and the development of new technologies.

Abstract

Background. Increasing carbon emissions in developing countries is a serious challenge in climate change mitigation efforts. Renewable energies such as solar, wind, and biomass have great potential to reduce carbon footprint while increasing access to sustainable energy. Purpose. This study aims to analyze the potential of renewable energy in reducing carbon emissions in developing countries, as well as identify the main obstacles that hinder its utilization. Method. The research method uses a quantitative and qualitative approach, involving data analysis from various international reports as well as case studies from several developing countries. The data was analyzed to measure the potential of renewable energy, the level of utilization, and its impact on reducing carbon emissions. Results. The results show that although the potential of renewable energy is high, its utilization is still low due to infrastructure limitations, inconsistent policies, and inadequate funding. Conclusion. The study concludes that renewable energy can be an important solution in reducing carbon footprints in developing countries with stable policy support and international collaboration. Investment in infrastructure and local capacity building is needed to overcome implementation constraints.

Abstract

Background. This research departs from the problem of increasing the volume of plastic waste in ASEAN countries which has a serious impact on the environment and human health. Purpose. The purpose of this study is to understand the differences in approaches and effectiveness of plastic waste management in various ASEAN countries, as well as to explore the factors that affect the success of these management.   Method. This study uses a comparative descriptive method by analyzing secondary data from various reliable sources related to policies, infrastructure, and the level of community participation in plastic waste management in ASEAN countries. Results. The results show that countries with strong government policy support, advanced technology, and high community participation, such as Singapore, tend to be more successful in managing plastic waste. In contrast, countries with limited infrastructure and lack of public awareness face challenges in reducing plastic waste. Conclusion. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the importance of a cross-sectoral collaborative approach and the adoption of innovative technologies to improve the effectiveness of plastic waste management in ASEAN. This research is expected to be a reference for policymakers in ASEAN to design a more holistic and sustainable plastic waste management strategy.
