Abstract

This study explores the role of halal labels in shaping consumer loyalty within the cosmetics industry, with a particular focus on trust, perceived quality, and ethical value alignment. Adopting a qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, retail observations, and case studies of established halal-certified cosmetic brands in Indonesia. Thematic analysis revealed that halal labels significantly contribute to consumer loyalty by reinforcing brand trust, validating product quality, and resonating with cultural and religious values. Interestingly, halal certification also attracted non-Muslim consumers, who perceived it as an indicator of product safety, ethical sourcing, and environmental responsibility. These findings highlight the cross-cultural appeal of halal cosmetics and suggest that brands can leverage halal certification as a strategic marketing asset. Practical implications include the need for transparent communication of halal standards, collaborations with reputable certification bodies, and the integration of ethical narratives in brand positioning. Future research is encouraged to examine loyalty trends longitudinally and explore the role of digital marketing in promoting halal-certified products across diverse consumer segments.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of Sharia Supervisory Board (SSB) characteristics on the financial performance of Islamic banks in Indonesia, where governance quality is vital amid rapid industry growth. Using a qualitative research design that integrates semi-structured interviews with SSB members and senior executives, direct observation of board meetings, and document analysis of annual financial reports, the study applies triangulation and thematic analysis to capture the impact of qualifications, independence, diversity, and professional experience on organizational outcomes. The findings demonstrate that SSB members with advanced educational and professional expertise significantly improve profitability indicators such as Return on Assets (ROA) and Return on Equity (ROE), while frequent and structured meetings enhance operational efficiency and ensure compliance with Sharia principles. Independence within the board strengthens accountability and reduces non-performing loans, whereas gender and professional diversity foster innovation, customer engagement, and market expansion. Furthermore, the alignment of SSB oversight with banks’ strategic planning amplifies financial sustainability and growth. The study reframes the role of SSB from compliance to strategic governance, consistent with corporate governance perspectives. Practically, it highlights the need for banks to recruit qualified and diverse SSB members, institutionalize continuous training, and integrate them into strategic decision-making, while regulators should encourage diversity and establish qualification standards. Future research should adopt longitudinal and cross-country approaches to deepen understanding of how SSB dynamics shape performance in different contexts.

Abstract

In today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, strategic leadership plays a decisive role in determining the success or failure of corporate digital transformation initiatives. This study explores the relationship between strategic leadership and the effectiveness of digital transformation across various industries. Motivated by the high failure rate—nearly 70%—of digital initiatives due to poor leadership, this research employs a mixed-methods design that combines qualitative interviews and quantitative surveys. The qualitative component involves in-depth interviews with organizational leaders who have overseen digital transitions, while the quantitative survey gathers data from over 100 companies using structured instruments to evaluate leadership effectiveness, employee engagement, and transformation outcomes. The findings reveal that organizations led by strategic leaders are 25% more likely to succeed in digital initiatives. These leaders cultivate innovative cultures, align digital strategies with corporate goals, and foster high employee engagement—factors that directly impact transformation performance. Case studies from companies such as Microsoft, Adobe, and General Electric illustrate how visionary leadership accelerates adaptation and innovation. Conversely, companies like Kodak and Blockbuster demonstrate the consequences of leadership failure in responding to digital disruption. This study concludes that strategic leadership is not a supportive element but a foundational driver of digital transformation. Effective leadership entails vision, adaptability, emotional intelligence, and the capacity to lead cultural change. The research contributes to leadership theory and offers practical recommendations for organizations navigating digital challenges. Future research should further investigate long-term impacts of strategic leadership on organizational resilience and innovation sustainability.

Abstract

This study examines how culinary micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) sustain operations during economic crises, with a particular focus on the COVID-19 pandemic. The research is driven by the urgent need to understand adaptive strategies that enable these businesses to remain viable amid severe disruptions. A qualitative approach was employed, integrating in-depth interviews, focus groups, and direct observations with culinary MSME owners and employees. This methodology captured the strategic, operational, and human dimensions of adaptation that quantitative data alone could not fully reveal. The findings indicate that digital transformation, product diversification, and community engagement were the most critical survival strategies. Businesses that rapidly embraced online platforms for sales and marketing experienced up to a 30% increase in revenue compared to non-adopters. Community partnerships—especially with local farms and suppliers—ensured stable supply chains and reinforced resilience. Notably, case studies highlight that operational agility, emotional resilience, and active customer engagement through digital channels were decisive factors in maintaining revenue streams and fostering loyalty. The study also underscores the importance of government support in providing financial assistance, training programs, and regulatory flexibility. These results contribute to the broader discourse on sustainable business practices by demonstrating that resilience is not solely dependent on financial resources but also on innovation, adaptability, and strong community ties. Policymakers, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders can apply these insights to design strategies that strengthen the sector’s long-term viability, cultural significance, and economic contribution.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of good governance principles in the Provincial Government of Aceh, a region with unique post-conflict dynamics and special autonomy. Using a mixed-methods design that integrates qualitative interviews with officials, civil society actors, and community leaders alongside quantitative surveys, the research explores three key dimensions: transparency, accountability, and public participation. Findings reveal persistent challenges, including limited citizen access to policy information, weak participatory mechanisms, and recurring corruption cases that undermine institutional integrity. At the same time, promising opportunities emerge through digital innovations in public service delivery and growing collaboration between government and civil society. These developments demonstrate the potential of technology and inclusive governance practices to enhance transparency, rebuild trust, and foster sustainable development. The study contributes to the limited literature on governance in Aceh by offering an integrated analysis of both challenges and reform prospects. Recommendations emphasize comprehensive bureaucratic reform, capacity building, and participatory policymaking as critical steps for strengthening governance in post-conflict and autonomous regions.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic severely disrupted the global tourism sector, and Aceh—once on a positive growth trajectory—was no exception, with tourist arrivals plummeting by over 70% in 2020, resulting in revenue losses, layoffs, and business closures. This study examines the adaptation strategies employed by Aceh’s tourism stakeholders in the post-pandemic period using a qualitative descriptive approach through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis involving 15 business owners from hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, and tour operators, with thematic analysis applied to identify patterns and effective practices. The findings reveal four key strategies: digital transformation via online marketing, booking platforms, and virtual tours; service diversification through health and wellness tourism packages; stakeholder collaboration to promote Aceh as a safe destination and enforce health protocols; and sustainable tourism initiatives, including eco-friendly practices and community engagement. These measures enhanced customer engagement, strengthened destination branding, and facilitated gradual recovery, although challenges such as limited capital, changing traveler behavior, and stringent regulations persist, particularly for small operators. The study contributes to the literature on business adaptation in tourism and offers practical recommendations for industry actors, policymakers, and local communities, emphasizing innovation, collaboration, and sustainability as essential pillars of resilience while underscoring the need for continued support to ensure long-term viability in the post-pandemic era.

Abstract

This study examines how Islamic value-based strategic planning is applied in Sharia-compliant rural banks in Indonesia and how it helps these banks grow sustainably and gain the trust of their communities. Using qualitative methods combined with data from reports and case studies, the research shows that applying Islamic values like justice, transparency, and social welfare improves the banks’ operations and builds strong customer loyalty, especially in rural areas where ethical and community ties are very important. The study also finds that involving the community through education programs helps increase financial knowledge and attract new customers. Despite challenges such as following regulations and facing competition, these banks have adapted well by using technology like fintech, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research fills a gap in understanding how Islamic principles influence banking strategies and provides useful advice for bank leaders and policymakers to develop ethical and inclusive financial systems based on these values.

Abstract

This study explores how small culinary businesses adopt low-cost digital marketing strategies to remain competitive in the social media era. Employing a qualitative design with interviews of 20 entrepreneurs, focus groups with 30 consumers, and analysis of social media engagement metrics, the research found that visual storytelling—through photos, videos, and interactive content—emerges as the most powerful approach to attract and retain customers. Results also show that collaborations with micro- and nano-influencers provide higher authenticity and engagement at a fraction of the cost of celebrity endorsements, while proactive reputation management, especially through online reviews, significantly boosts consumer trust and sales performance. These findings underscore the critical role of social media analytics in enabling entrepreneurs to adapt campaigns in real time, which aligns with evidence that agile businesses can increase revenues by up to 30%. This study contributes to filling a research gap by focusing on resource-constrained culinary SMEs in emerging economies, highlighting how affordable digital marketing can substitute for traditional advertising in saturated markets. Nevertheless, limitations include the small and localized sample size, suggesting that future studies should adopt mixed-method approaches and examine additional tools such as email marketing and search engine optimization. Overall, the research confirms that low-cost digital marketing is essential for small culinary businesses to enhance visibility, foster customer loyalty, and sustain long-term growth.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance and stock returns in the Indonesian capital market, using evidence from companies listed in the IDX ESG Leaders Index between 2018 and 2022. ESG ratings were collected from Bloomberg, Refinitiv, and corporate sustainability reports, and matched with stock return data. Multiple regression and correlation analyses were employed, controlling for firm size, industry sector, and market volatility. The sample comprised 30 firms consistently included in the index across the study period, representing a range of industries. The results indicate a significant positive relationship between ESG scores and stock performance. Firms with higher ESG ratings outperformed lower-rated peers by an average of 3% annually and exhibited greater resilience during the COVID-19 crisis. Governance emerged as the most influential dimension, while environmental and social factors showed sector-specific effects, particularly in consumer goods and renewable energy. These findings reinforce the view of ESG as both a financial driver and a risk mitigator in emerging markets. The study contributes to sustainable finance literature by providing evidence from Indonesia, where ESG research remains limited, and offers practical implications for investors, regulators, and corporate leaders to integrate ESG criteria into investment and business strategies.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of Good Corporate Governance (GCG) on healthcare service quality in Aceh hospitals, Indonesia. Employing a mixed-methods design, data were collected from ten hospitals through surveys, interviews, and document analysis, enabling both quantitative validation and qualitative insights. Results reveal that hospitals with strong governance frameworks—characterized by transparency, accountability, and stakeholder engagement—achieve superior patient satisfaction and operational performance. Quantitative findings indicate a 30% increase in patient satisfaction and a 40% reduction in grievances, while qualitative evidence highlights improved staff morale and patient trust. However, governance implementation remains inconsistent, particularly in rural hospitals facing resource constraints and weak policy enforcement. Theoretically, this study contributes to governance and healthcare literature by examining the governance–quality nexus in a developing context. Practically, it offers policy and managerial recommendations, emphasizing training, regulatory incentives, and patient feedback systems as strategies to enhance hospital governance. Strengthening GCG is essential for building sustainable, equitable, and high-quality healthcare systems in Aceh and comparable settings.
