Abstract

This study examines ihdad in classical hadith and its relevance for Generation Z living in pop culture and the digital space. Normatively, the ihdad hadith establishes strict rules regarding the prohibition of adornment and restrictions on activities during the mourning period. However, Gen Z's expressions of grief tend to be open, visual, and influenced by social media aesthetics, creating tensions with traditional ihdad norms. This study addresses four research questions: the interpretation of the classical ihdad hadith, the characteristics of pop culture and Gen Z's expressions of grief, the dynamics of their interaction, and solutions through an interconnected approach. Using a literature review method, the study found that ihdad can be understood more contextually by emphasizing its moral and spiritual values. An interconnected approach offers a bridge between normative teachings and digital cultural practices, ensuring that ihdad remains relevant and adaptive for Gen Z.

Abstract

The dominance of cancel culture in digital spaces reflects a major shift in contemporary practices of moral correction while raising ethical concerns related to information reliability, justice, and the risk of digital harm. This study aims to reinterpret cancel culture through the ethical framework of amar makruf nahi mungkar to determine when it may operate as a legitimate and constructive form of resisting wrongdoing. Using a qualitative library-based approach, the research integrates thematic Qur’anic exegesis on hisbah, analysis of key hadith on moral responsibility, and multidisciplinary literature on digital behavior, mass psychology, and online public opinion. The findings indicate that cancel culture becomes ethically permissible when grounded in tabayyun, aligned with principles of justice, free from tajassus, and protective of human dignity against mob-driven excesses. The study further proposes a model of digital amar makruf nahi mungkar that emphasizes public education, data verification, restorative correction, and the prevention of informational harm. Its main contribution lies in connecting classical Islamic ethical principles with contemporary digital dynamics, producing a framework that guides ethical online engagement. The research concludes that cancel culture can serve as a legitimate mechanism of moral accountability when governed by maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, while noting limitations concerning the absence of empirical data and the rapidly evolving digital landscape.

Abstract

The rise of Korean popular culture (K-Pop) has become a significant part of the digital lives of Muslim Generation Z in Indonesia, functioning not only as entertainment but also as a medium for self-expression and cultural identity formation. However, this engagement with global culture raises questions regarding Islamic value boundaries, particularly in relation to the hadith on tasyabbuh, which cautions against imitating specific groups. This study aims to analyze how Muslim Gen Z understands the relevance of the tasyabbuh hadith and how they negotiate religious values with their identity as K-Pop fans. Using a quantitative survey design, data were collected through an online questionnaire distributed via purposive and snowball sampling to 35 Muslim respondents aged 17–25. Descriptive statistics were employed to map patterns of cultural consumption, hadith comprehension, and religious attitudes. The findings reveal that K-Pop consumption among Muslim Gen Z is selective, with most respondents viewing it as a neutral form of entertainment that does not interfere with religious practices. Their interpretation of the tasyabbuh hadith tends to be contextual, distinguishing between imitation in ritual matters and imitation in general cultural practices, leading them to conclude that engaging with K-Pop does not constitute prohibited imitation. Furthermore, respondents demonstrate strong moral filtering mechanisms and uphold religion as a primary boundary in interacting with popular culture. Thus, the study concludes that Muslim Gen Z’s engagement with K-Pop represents a moderate identity negotiation that remains rooted in Islamic values.

Abstract

Increased participation of women in the workplace raises challenges regarding the arrangement of dual roles in order to remain in harmony with Islamic values. This study aims to analyze how the principles of Maqāṣid Syarī‘ah can be integrated into the management of women's domestic and public roles based on the perspective of the Qur'an. The method used is a literature study with thematic analysis of Qur'anic verses, classical and contemporary maqāṣid literature, and modern Islamic gender studies. The results show that the five main principles of Maqāṣid Syarī‘ah, namely ḥifẓ al-dīn, ḥifẓ al-nafs, ḥifẓ al-‘aql, ḥifẓ al-nasl, and ḥifẓ al-māl provide an ethical framework that helps balance family responsibilities and professional roles. The integration of maqāṣid values enables the optimization of intellectual potential, protection of oneself and one's family, and increased economic contribution without neglecting household harmony. This study confirms that women's involvement in the workforce does not conflict with Islamic values as long as there is structural support and awareness of the principle of balance. These findings contribute to the development of a maqāṣid-based conceptual model relevant to the needs of working women in the modern era.

Abstract

The increase in promiscuous behavior among Gen Z shows a gap between the ideal values of honor in the Qur'an and Hadith and modern social reality, so moral reinforcement through the internalization of religious values is needed. This study aims to analyze Gen Z's level of understanding of Qur'anic-Hadith values of honor, the influence of internalizing these values on moral behavior, and the supporting and inhibiting factors. Using a quantitative-descriptive method through a survey of 12 respondents and based on Hirschi's Social Control Theory and Bandura's Social Learning Theory, the study found that the majority of Gen Z understood the concept of ḥifẓ al-‘ird and the prohibition of adultery well, and 83% stated that honor values greatly influenced their interactions with the opposite sex. while all respondents assessed that the internalization of religious values was able to suppress deviant behavior. The main supporting factors included family role models and guidance from religious teachers, while the biggest obstacles came from a permissive social environment and exposure to digital media. These findings confirm that the internalization of Qur'anic-Hadith values of honor is a strategic instrument in strengthening the morals of Gen Z amid the challenges of free socializing in the digital age.

Abstract

This study explores how Generation Z understands the Islamic concept of kafa’ah in partner selection and compares their perceptions with normative principles derived from prophetic traditions. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research integrates quantitative survey data from respondents aged 18–25 with qualitative analysis of relevant hadiths and classical as well as contemporary fiqh interpretations. The findings reveal that Generation Z holds diverse and often fragmented interpretations of kafa’ah, ranging from religious–moral compatibility to socio-economic and personal suitability, while a portion of respondents lack familiarity with the concept. Although most participants perceive the hadith principles on kafa’ah as still relevant, their partner selection practices are more strongly shaped by emotional compatibility, lifestyle preferences, and digital cultural influences. A notable gap emerges between normative Islamic teachings and the lived relational practices of contemporary youth. The study concludes that kafa’ah requires contextual reinterpretation to remain applicable within the social and psychological realities of Generation Z.

Abstract

This study explores the integration of Sufi values within Islamic psychotherapy as a holistic framework for addressing students’ mental health issues in the digital era. The rapid development of technology has created psychological pressures such as digital anxiety, emotional instability, and social comparison, which significantly affect students’ well-being. Through a qualitative descriptive approach based on library research, this study analyzes core Sufi concepts including muhasabah, dzikr, sabr, tawakkul, and tazkiyah al-nafs, and examines their relevance to emotional regulation, cognitive balance, and spiritual resilience. The findings indicate that Sufi practices provide effective mechanisms for reducing stress, enhancing self-control, and shaping inner peace. Furthermore, integrating these values with Islamic psychotherapy offers a more comprehensive therapeutic approach by aligning cognitive, emotional, and spiritual dimensions. This integration leads to the development of the Integrated Sufi-Based Islamic Psychotherapy Model, which emphasizes the stages of takhalli, tahalli, and tajalli as practical strategies for building students’ mental strength and spiritual identity. Overall, the study contributes to the advancement of Islamic mental health discourse and provides practical recommendations for educators and counselors to implement spiritually grounded interventions in educational settings.

Abstract

This article explores how the practice of tabarruk is understood and carried out in Islamic boarding schools through the perspective of Talal Asad's discursive tradition. This approach opens up a broader space for understanding tabarruk through text and context. By combining open-ended questionnaires and brief interviews, this study traces how tabarruk is formed and passed down through religious discourse, behavioral etiquette, and the authoritative role of kiai in the daily life of Islamic boarding schools. The results show that elements such as sanad, ijazah, and the legitimacy of a kiai serve as the main determinants of the validity of tabarruk as well as the boundaries that distinguish it from practices that are considered excessive or deviant. This confirms that the pesantren tradition applies through a combination of texts and bodily practices manifested in manners, gestures, and close relationships between kiai and santri. This study concludes that tabarruk is not merely a ritual of seeking blessings, but a process of forming religious identity and subjectivity that takes place through interactions between religious discourse, kiai authority, and daily practices among pesantren communities. The results of this study provide an important contribution to understanding how religious traditions survive, adapt, and gain legitimacy amid social changes in the development of modern pesantren.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of relationship goals on TikTok and its relevance to relationship values in Islam based on QS. ar-Rum verse 21 and mahabbah hadiths. This trend is noticed because many of the younger generation's romantic perceptions are shaped through the appearance of ideal relationships that often emphasize visual and performative aspects more than the reality of the real relationship. The research method uses a qualitative approach based on literature study through the analysis of Islamic literature, communication theory, adolescent psychology, and digital media studies. The results of the study show that the relationship construction on TikTok is not fully aligned with the principles of sakinah, mawaddah, and rahmah, and has the potential to create unrealistic expectations about love and commitment. However, a number of content still has harmony with the values of the Qur'an-Hadith, especially in the aspects of good communication, mutual support, and cooperation in relationships. This research emphasizes the importance of digital literacy based on Islamic ethics so that the younger generation is able to understand relationships more wisely and not get caught up in unrealistic relationship idealization.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of gadget addiction on worship distraction among Muslim millennials in Kraksaan, East Java, using a phenomenological qualitative approach combined with thematic analysis of hadith. It focuses on how intensive gadget use shapes mechanisms of distraction before, during, and after worship. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 12 informants aged 18–30, participatory observations in several local mosques, and documentation of smartphone use immediately before and after prayer. Thematic analysis identifies three core patterns of distraction: compulsive checking behaviour, notification-driven interruptions, and cognitive residue from digital activities that carries over into worship. The findings indicate that gadget addiction affects not only outward behaviour but also diminishes spiritual presence, emotional stability, and the experience of khusyu’. By integrating empirical data with prophetic traditions on attentiveness in prayer, the study argues that digital distraction constitutes a contemporary form of “theft of devotion” analogous to the prohibition of turning away in prayer. This research contributes to the developing dialogue between hadith studies and digital psychology within the lived religiosity of Indonesian Muslim youth.
