Abstract

Some countries in the world turn to alternative energy source to fulfill their necessity of fuel. One of the alternative fuels is biodiesel. Raw material of biodiesel can be produced by microalgae cultivation in fed-batch bioreactor. To improve the productivity of microalgae cultivation, we need to determine the optimal control of microalgae growth. This paper discusses mathematical model of microalgae growth in fed-batch bioreactor, and solves the optimal feeding strategy problem by using Pontryagin Minimum Principle. Then we compare the controlled microalgae growth model with the uncontrolled one. Numerical simulation with DOTcvpSB shows that the controlled microalgae growth model yields more harvest and less cost function than the uncontrolled one.

Abstract

Solar still is a renewable energy technology. It can reduce crisis of clean and healthy water in some countries. Solar still produces clean and healthy water using the sunlight, but the result of distillate water is not so much. Hence the need for modifications with the addition of collector can increase the yield of distillate water. Mathematical model of solar still with collector is in the form of system of differential equations. It can be solved numerically using Runge-Kutta method. From the simulation, we conclude that the collector increases the amount of distillate water in the solar still.

Abstract

The main problem in the shipping industry in Indonesia is the sluggishness of the shipping business due to underconsidered risk management. In the period of 11 years from 2007 to 2018, the problem in this study was how to determine the priority of choices that could be taken into consideration in the shipping industry. The research objective is to get priority actions that can be taken in advancing the shipping industry business. The method used in this study is respondent data collection by data analysis using the Analytic Network Process (ANP). The results of research that discusses how to manage the risk that is at the highest priority with a weight of 0.39092. Next is the process of maintaining business with a priority weight of 0.27899, implementation with a priority weight of 0.18325 and also a low priority management oversight with a priority weight of 0.14684. Future opportunities are to consider and consider risk management arrangements.

Abstract

In this paper we study the performance of Gahver-Stehfest numerical Laplace inversion method. The method is applied to some simple functions which have analytical Laplace inversion and the option pricing formulas which their analytical inversions are not available. The accuracy and efficiency of the methods for each functions are presented.

Abstract

The financial crisis in Hong Kong occurred in 1997 and 2008. To prevent a crisis or reduce the impact of a crisis, action is needed through early detection of the crisis using export indicator. The combination of Markov Switching and Asymmetric Generalized Seasonal Autoregressive Moving Average Conditional Heteroscedasticity (MS-AGSARMACH) models explains the crisis well. The results show that the MSAGSARMACH(2,1,1) model can explain past and future crises well.

Abstract

The application of the concept of fluid is often used to solve problems in the daily life. One of them is the problem of fluid around an elliptical cylinder. This study aims to solve the problems of the fluid around two elliptical cylinder configuration with side-by-side using the Navier-Stokes equations. Navier-Stokes equations–incompressible, viscous and unsteady-are solved using finite difference method staggered grid and SIMPLE (Semi Implicit Method for Pressure-Linked Equation) algorithms. Finite difference method is used to complete the grid arrangement, whereas the SIMPLE algorithm is used to obtain components of velocity and pressure value. Results of this study are the pressure value based on fluid flow profile and a mathematical model which received an elliptical cylinder pressure. Profile of fluid flow is simulated by varying the Reynolds number of 100, 1000, 7000, and 10000 as well as variations in the distance between the cylinder with a ratio of 2 <= S/a <= 6 where L is the distance between the cylinder and a is the minor axis of the cylinder ellipse. Then the pressure is calculated based on the value of the received cylinder pressure components. After obtaining the pressure value, then we create a mathematical model of the stresses imposed on the elliptical cylinder.

Abstract

Numerical experiments and simulations of fluid flow through the outer surface of a circular cylinder and three passive controls have been investigated to determine the proper configuration of three passive controls in reducing the drag coefficient. One of passive controls is placed in front of the cylinder with distance ratio (S:D) = 2:4 and the other two passive controls are placed behind the cylinder with distance ratio (T:D) = 1:6;1:8. The angle between two passive controls behind the cylinder are a =30 deg;60 deg;90 deg;120 deg. The Navier-Stokes equations for incompressible, viscous and unsteady fluid flows is solved based on SIMPLE (Semi-Implicit for Pressure-Linked Equations) algorithms and discretized using finite-difference method. The difference in a affects the reduction in the drag coefficient significantly. The best configuration of three passive controls design is one of passive controls put at the distance ratio S=D = 2:4;T=D = 1:6 and a = 60. This configuration can reduce the drag coefficient optimally to 21.2109%.

Abstract

Cancer is a disease characterized by uncontrolled cell division and the ability of these cells to invade other tissues, either tissue next to them or not. Cancer treatment process is very diverse. The issue in this paper is about the treatment of cancer that processed by combining radio and anti-angiogenic therapy, which is intended to minimize the size of cancer, by adding control w (dose of radiotherapy) and u (dose of antiangiogenic). By applying Pontryagin minimum principle, the simulation results show that the size of the cancer become the most minimum if given minimum weight of anti-angiogenic (P) therapy is 0.3 and radiotherapy (Q) is 0.015. Which take big effect of this treatment is dose of anti-angiogenic therapy.

Abstract

Surabaya is one of big cities in Indonesia. Since the number of industries in Surabaya is increasing, the level of air pollution in Surabaya is also increasing. To deal with this matter, procurement of measuring instruments has been carried out in several locations in Surabaya based on the level of emissions issued by motorized vehicles, but increasing the number of measuring instruments affects the cost significantly. Therefore, the estimation of air pollution will make it easier to determine the level of air pollution in Indonesia. Kalman filter a method to estimate the state variable by using a system model accompanied by a measurement model as the initial value that comprises the prediction stage and the correction stage. The results of this correction stage will be the estimation results. Then it will be compared with the data at some locations. The results obtained are quite accurate at the point of observation with a relatively small error.
