Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that requires sustainable management, including through a community-based non-pharmacological approach. This community service activity aims to improve community knowledge and behavior and examine the use of boiled moringa leaves in controlling blood sugar levels. The activity was carried out in Rantoni and Lajoro Hamlets, Pakeng Village, Lembang District, Pinrang Regency, from March to April 2026, involving 50 respondents. The methods used included lectures, questions and answers, and discussions combined with demonstrations of moringa leaf processing. The results showed an increase in participant knowledge and changes in behavior in regular consumption of moringa leaves. The analysis showed that moringa leaf consumption was significantly associated with blood sugar control and was a dominant factor in increasing the chances of glycemic control. Thus, community empowerment through the use of moringa leaves has the potential to be an effective promotive and preventive strategy in managing diabetes mellitus at the community level.

Abstract

Nosocomial infections remain a significant problem in the healthcare system due to increased morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs. The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is a key strategy in infection prevention and patient safety improvement. This study aims to analyze the role of education and training in PPE use as a strategy to improve patient safety in preventing nosocomial infections among healthcare workers. This study used an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach conducted at Madising Pinrang Hospital from December 2025–January 2026. The study sample consisted of 35 healthcare workers selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed through descriptive, bivariate, and logistic regression analyses. The results showed that knowledge, training in PPE use, and availability of PPE were significantly associated with PPE use, while attitudes did not show a significant relationship. PPE availability was the dominant factor influencing PPE use. Education, training, and facility support are important strategies to improve compliance with PPE use in preventing nosocomial infections.

Abstract

Hyperuricemia is a metabolic disorder that often occurs in the elderly and can progress to gout and other metabolic complications. Many elderly people are unaware of their elevated uric acid levels because symptoms often appear at an advanced stage. Health education and uric acid level testing are important strategies to increase knowledge and support early detection in the community. This study aims to analyze the increase in knowledge and support early detection of hyperuricemia through educational activities and uric acid level testing in the elderly. The study used a cross-sectional design in a community service activity conducted in Bungi Community Health Center in December 2025. A sample of 35 elderly people was selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through a knowledge questionnaire and uric acid level testing. Data were analyzed using univariate, bivariate, and multivariate methods using logistic regression. Health education significantly improved the elderly's knowledge level. Consumption of high-purine foods, body mass index, and a history of hyperuricemia were associated with elevated uric acid levels. Health education and uric acid examinations are effective in increasing knowledge and supporting early detection of hyperuricemia in the elderly in the community.

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease that often causes complications such as peripheral neuropathy, characterized by decreased foot sensitivity. This condition increases the risk of diabetic foot ulcers. Physical activities such as diabetes exercises have the potential to improve peripheral circulation and nerve function. This study aims to analyze the optimization of diabetes exercises in improving foot sensitivity in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus through a community service program. This study used an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The community service activities were carried out from October–November 2025 in the Biringkanaya area, Makassar City. Data were obtained from the Sudiang Raya Community Health Center database. The study sample consisted of 45 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Data analysis used the Chi-square test, logistic regression, and ROC analysis. Respondents who regularly participated in diabetes exercises showed a higher proportion of normal foot sensitivity. Statistical analysis showed a significant relationship between diabetes exercises and foot sensitivity (p < 0.05). The AUC value of 0.70 indicates sufficient predictive ability. Diabetes exercises have the potential to improve foot sensitivity in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Suboptimal breast milk production remains a challenge for postpartum mothers. Complementary therapies such as endorphin massage and lactation massage have the potential to enhance the hormonal response to lactation. To analyze the effectiveness of endorphin massage and lactation massage in optimizing breast milk production in breastfeeding mothers through a community service program. This analytic study using a community approach involved 50 breastfeeding mothers. Data were analyzed descriptively, bivariately using the Chi-Square and Fisher’s Exact tests, and multivariately using logistic regression. A total of 82.0% of respondents received endorphin massage and lactation massage. Endorphin massage was significantly associated with increased breast milk production (p=0.025; OR=6.31). Lactation massage was also significant (p=0.035; OR=4.79). Parity and type of delivery did not show a significant association. Complementary therapies have been shown to be effective in increasing breast milk production and are suitable for integration into community-based midwifery services.

Abstract

Public stigma against people living with HIV/AIDS (ODHA) remains a major obstacle in efforts to control the HIV epidemic. Health literacy and the social environment play a role in shaping the public's perception of ODHA. This study aims to analyze the influence of literacy and the social environment on public stigma within a community-based community service framework. The study used a cross-sectional analytical design. The study was conducted in the Salimbongan Community Health Center (Puskesmas) area of Pinrang Regency from October to December 2025. A sample of 200 respondents was selected purposively. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire. Analysis was performed using univariate, bivariate analysis using the Chi-square test, and multivariate analysis using logistic regression. Some respondents still exhibited stigma against ODHA. Bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between knowledge, perceptions, family attitudes, and community leaders' attitudes with stigma (p<0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that community leaders' and family attitudes were the most dominant determinants of public stigma after controlling for other variables. Strengthening literacy alone is not sufficient to reduce stigma. Community-based interventions involving key social actors are more effective in transforming societal attitudes toward HIV/AIDS.
