Abstract

Objective: This study aims to examine the role of educational play equipment (APE) in play-based learning to cultivate Islamic character in early childhood, especially mahabbah to the Prophet Muhammad. This study also provides a practical framework for the application of APE in Islamic PAUD. Theoretical framework:  This research is based on the theory of play-based learning and Islamic character education, which views directed play as a means of internalizing values. The conceptual framework used is the flow of "knowledge → affection → action" in the formation of children's religious character. Literature review:   Previous studies have shown that learning to play is effective for character development, but APE is generally still positioned as a supporting medium. Studies that specifically associate the type of APE with the growth of love for the Prophet are still limited. Methods: This study used a systematic literature review following the guidelines of PRISMA 2020. Of the 570 articles identified (2010–2025), 12 studies met the criteria and were analyzed through thematic narrative synthesis. Results: The results of the study identified four main mechanisms of APE, namely narrative-dialogical media, guided play, symbolic modeling, and multimodal reinforcement at home. This mechanism is related to the improvement of prosocial behavior, manners, religious attitudes, and children's love for the Prophet. Implications: These findings confirm the importance of APE as the main instrument in Islamic PAUD character education. Educators need to design and evaluate APE in a targeted manner to support the formation of children's Islamic attitudes and behaviors. Novelty: The novelty of this research lies in the placement of APE as the main pedagogical lever in fostering mahabbah to the Prophet. The study also offers a practical model of "knowledge → affection → action" that applies to educators.

Abstract

Objective: This study examines Qur’anic verses concerning the location of hadyu by analyzing al-Ṭabarī’s exegetical framework to clarify the relationship between the normative ruling that designates the Ḥaram as the required site of slaughter and the legitimate exceptions concerning slaughter locations. Theoretical framework: The analysis employs the al-tafsīr al-mawḍūʿī al-wajīz model as articulated by al-Farmawī and Fathullāh Saʿīd, with al-Ṭabarī’s tafsīr serving as the primary exegetical source for interpretive data. This framework integrates the systematic compilation of relevant verses, historical–contextual examination, munāsabah, ḥadīth corroboration, and a comprehensive integrative analysis, while engaging contemporary perspectives related to SDG 3, SDG 12, and SDG 16. Literature review:  Contemporary studies predominantly engage with issues of digitalized dam payments, hajj services, and regulatory reforms, yet none have addressed the question of slaughter location through a concise thematic exegesis constrained within the authoritative boundaries of al-Ṭabarī’s tafsīr. Methods: A qualitative–descriptive approach aligned with thematic exegesis guides the data compilation, analytical sequencing, and interpretive techniques used throughout the study. Results: Al-Ṭabarī identifies two conditions governing the location of hadyu slaughter: under normal circumstances, sacrificial rites are performed within the Ḥaram, as established in QS al-Mā’idah: 95, QS al-Ḥajj: 33, and Ibn Mājah (4/238); under exceptional circumstances of iḥṣār, the slaughter is carried out at the site of obstruction. Implications: These findings support the permissibility of dam slaughter outside the Ḥaram within the framework of “modern iḥṣār,” including public health risks from mass slaughter (SDG 3), inefficiencies and waste in sacrificial logistics (SDG 12), and governance constraints in pilgrimage management (SDG 16), as analogically reflected in QS al-Baqarah: 196 and QS al-Fatḥ: 25. Novelty: Slaughtering outside the Ḥaram is not an equivalent alternative to the normative rule but a valid and scripturally grounded option in specific circumstances (classic or modern iḥṣār).

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the lunar motion models presented in Al-Majisti and evaluate their compatibility with modern astronomical models. The modeling of lunar motion has occupied a central position in the history of astronomy because it illustrates the evolution of mathematical approaches to explaining celestial phenomena. Theoretical framework: The research is grounded in the theoretical framework of the history of astronomy, mathematical modeling, and comparative scientific analysis, which together provide a basis for examining the continuity and transformation of astronomical knowledge from antiquity to contemporary science. Literature review: Previous studies have primarily discussed the historical significance of Al-Majisti and Ptolemy's influence on Islamic astronomy, while relatively few have systematically compared its lunar motion models with modern astronomical modeling. Method: To address this gap, the present study employs a qualitative literature review using a descriptive research design and content analysis. Primary data are derived from Al-Majisti, while secondary sources include scholarly works on the history of astronomy and modern planetary theory. Results: The findings reveal that Al-Majisti contains three successive models of lunar motion, each representing a progressive refinement of mathematical representation. The third model demonstrates the highest degree of sophistication and provides the closest approximation to the Moon's observed motion. The analysis further shows that the relative simplicity and effectiveness of Ptolemy's approach stem from the geometric combination of circular motions, which enabled increasingly accurate predictions despite the limitations of ancient observational techniques. When compared with modern lunar motion models, the Ptolemaic framework exhibits remarkable conceptual consistency, although contemporary models achieve substantially greater precision through advanced mathematics and observational data. Implications: These findings highlight the enduring scientific value of Al-Majisti as a milestone in the historical development of astronomical modeling and demonstrate its contribution to the transmission of scientific knowledge into the Islamic Golden Age. Novelty: The novelty of this study lies in its systematic comparative analysis of the three lunar motion models in Al-Majisti against modern astronomical models, offering new insights into the evolution, continuity, and scientific relevance of historical astronomical thought for contemporary scholarship.

Abstract

Objective: Analyze the process of cultural and religious acculturation in the Nyambai Tradition of the Ranau community and its contribution to the achievement of the SDGs. The focus of the study includes the transformation of performances, rhymes, cultural symbols, and social interactions. Theoretical framework: The research uses the theory of cultural acculturation, interpretive anthropology, habitus theory, and the concept of Islamic living. This framework describes the integration of Islamic values into the local culture without losing its original character. Literature review: Previous studies have shown adaptations between Islam and local cultures in various community traditions. However, studies linking cultural-religious acculturation to the achievement of the SDGs are still limited. Method: The research applied an ethnographic qualitative approach through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, cultural documentation, and analysis of Nyambai rhymes. The data were analyzed interactively to find patterns of cultural transformation and Islamic values. Results: The Nyambai tradition undergoes selective acculturation, which is reflected in performance ethics, rhyming language, cultural symbols, and social interaction. Islamic values are integrated without eliminating the local cultural identity of the Ranau people. Implications: The Nyambai tradition supports culture-based education (SDG 4), gender ethics (SDG 5), cultural preservation (SDG 11), and social cohesion (SDG 16). These findings suggest that local traditions can be instruments of sustainable development. Novelty: This research offers a conceptual model of "cultural acculturation based on Islamic values for sustainable development (SDGs)". This model integrates cultural preservation, Islamic values, and sustainable development goals in a single analytical framework.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to (1) examine the growth and publication trends of Islamic feminism research between 2019 and 2025, (2) identify the principal thematic clusters through keyword co-occurrence analysis, and (3) explore the relationship between emerging research themes and the SDGs, particularly SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions). Islamic feminism has developed from a theological discourse advocating gender justice into a multidisciplinary field engaging with social, legal, political, and cultural issues. Nevertheless, the intellectual landscape of this scholarship remains fragmented, and limited studies have systematically examined its thematic evolution and relevance to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Theoretical framework: Grounded in feminist hermeneutics, intersectionality theory, and the SDGs framework. Literature review: Previous studies have primarily emphasized conceptual, historical, or qualitative discussions, while comprehensive bibliometric mapping of the field remains scarce. Method: This research employs a quantitative bibliometric approach using VOSviewer to analyze 434 Scopus-indexed publications retrieved through search terms related to Islamic feminism, Muslim feminism, and gender in Islam. Results: The findings demonstrate a consistent increase in scholarly output, reaching its highest level in 2023, reflecting expanding international academic attention. Keyword co-occurrence analysis reveals three dominant thematic clusters comprising theological reinterpretation and Qur'anic hermeneutics, socio-legal activism and gender justice, and decolonial and intersectional perspectives. Emerging topics, including migration, mental health, digital activism, and decoloniality, indicate a shift from foundational theological debates toward broader contemporary social challenges closely aligned with the SDGs agenda. The geographical distribution highlights substantial contributions from both Global South countries, particularly Indonesia, Pakistan, and Turkey, and Western academic institutions, demonstrating increasing international collaboration. Implications: These findings imply that Islamic feminism has become an important intellectual framework for advancing inclusive development, social justice, and gender equality. Novelty: The study's novelty lies in integrating bibliometric keyword co-occurrence analysis with the SDGs framework, providing a comprehensive evidence-based mapping of theoretical debates, research trajectories, and future directions within contemporary Islamic feminism scholarship.
