Abstract

Objective: The study aims to reconstruct this paradigm as an integrated framework for Islamic higher education that combines spiritual commitment, intellectual excellence, and social responsibility. Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework is grounded in Islamic theology, prophetic education, and the classical concepts of al-‘ālim al-rabbānī and insān kāmil, emphasizing the inseparable relationship between faith, knowledge, and service. Literature review: Previous studies have extensively discussed KH. Hasyim Asy’ari’s educational philosophy, nationalism, and religious leadership; however, few have systematically conceptualized these dimensions into a coherent triadic paradigm or examined their institutional relevance for contemporary Islamic universities. Method: This research employs a qualitative library research approach using historical, theological, and philosophical analyses of KH. Hasyim Asy’ari’s writings, historical documents, and relevant scholarly literature. Results: The findings reveal that tawhid functions as the ontological and ethical foundation of human existence, knowledge serves as the means of cultivating intellectual integrity and moral character, while service represents the practical manifestation of both through dedication to the ummah, the nation, and humanity. Historically, this paradigm was embodied in KH. Hasyim Asy’ari’s establishment of Tebuireng Pesantren, leadership in Nahdlatul Ulama and other Islamic organizations, and his contribution to the 1945 Jihad Resolution. Implications: The study further demonstrates that this framework provides a comprehensive foundation for strengthening curriculum development, institutional culture, and the implementation of the Tridharma of Higher Education at UNHASY across diverse academic disciplines. Novelty: The research contributes a new conceptual model that integrates theological, epistemological, and social dimensions into a unified paradigm, offering an innovative reference for pesantren-based universities seeking to cultivate graduates who embody insān kāmil and effectively address the challenges of radicalism, sectarianism, and practical secularism in contemporary Indonesia.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the role of integrating Islamic content in English learning to improve the readiness of prospective PIAUD teachers in accordance with the SDG 4 goals on quality education. Theoretical framework: The research is based on contextual learning theory and SDG 4, which emphasizes the importance of connecting learning materials with students' religious identities to improve global motivation and competence. Literature review:  The literature shows that English as a global lingua franca is often considered less relevant in the Islamic educational environment, so the integration of Islamic values is necessary to increase motivation and engagement in learning. Methods: The research used a qualitative approach with a case study design on third-semester students of PIAUD STAI Muhammadiyah Blora. Data were obtained through interviews, observations, and documentation, and then analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña models. Results: The integration of Islamic content increases interest, participation, and relevance of English learning and strengthens vocabulary and reading mastery. However, speaking skills are still low due to anxiety and fear of making mistakes. Implications: This approach supports the readiness of prospective teachers by integrating English language competencies and Islamic values. However, additional strategies are needed to improve students' speaking skills. Novelty: The novelty of the research lies in the study of the integration of Islamic content in English learning to support the readiness of prospective PIAUD teachers within the framework of SDG 4, which is still rarely researched in the context of Islamic education.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to examine in depth the role of religion and culture as primary capital in the civil disobedience movement of the Agam Regency community against Government Regulation (GR) No. 84 of 1999 on the territorial expansion of Bukittinggi City. This policy triggered sustained collective resistance for over two decades, perceived as a form of administrative tyranny that threatened social ideology, the integrity of the nagari, and the community's religious existence. Theoretical framework: Theologically, this resistance is legitimized through the doctrine of al-isyan al-madani and the principle of critical obedience, aimed at protecting the dharuriyyāt (essential) dimensions: religion (hifz al-din), communal customary property (hifz al-mal), and social identity (hifz al-nasl). This theological defense fundamentally aligns with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). Method: Employing an Islamic legal sociology approach within a qualitative case study design, this research analyzes data from in-depth interviews with customary elites (niniak mamak) and religious leaders (alim ulama), as well as historical conflict documents. Results: The findings reveal that civil disobedience in Agam is deeply rooted in the philosophical doctrine of rajo alim rajo disambah, rajo zalim rajo disanggah (a just ruler is revered, an unjust ruler is resisted). Implications: This study underscores the urgent need to reorient national law-making processes toward deliberative values and the recognition of local sociocultural authority to ensure the sustainable achievement of the SDGs. Novelty: The novelty of this study lies in uncovering the mechanism of theo-cultural civil disobedience, which effectively rendered the state's positive law dormant (statutory dormancy) for 25 years through the superior legitimacy of living law. The ultimate success of this movement, culminating in the enactment of Law No. 53 of 2024, demonstrates that Islamic and cultural modalities can effectively neutralize policies lacking moral legitimacy and actively drive the realization of SDGs.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to systematically map global research trends on Islamic character–based anti-bullying through a bibliometric analysis and to identify underexplored research gaps in the existing literature. Theoretical framework: The study is grounded in an integrative framework combining bullying theory, character education, and Islamic ethical values as a normative basis for bullying prevention and intervention in educational contexts. Literature review:  Previous studies on anti-bullying are predominantly framed within psychological and social perspectives, while the explicit incorporation of Islamic character values remains limited in the global scholarly discourse. Methods: A bibliometric approach was employed to analyze 1,188 international publications published between 1982 and 2025, focusing on publication trends, keyword co-occurrence, influential authors, countries, institutional contributions, and core journals. Results: The findings indicate a substantial growth in anti-bullying research since 2015, with publications largely dominated by developed countries and an increasing emphasis on multidisciplinary themes such as mental health, character education, and Islamic values. Implications: This study provides a strategic reference for the development of culturally and religiously grounded anti-bullying frameworks and policies that support safe and inclusive education in alignment with SDGs 4 and 16. Novelty: The novelty of this research lies in its bibliometric mapping of the intersection between anti-bullying and Islamic character values, highlighting the scarcity of empirical studies and offering new directions for future research.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to formulate a model of digital eco-theological da’wah to enhance the ecological awareness of Generation Z in Palembang City toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly regarding environmental sustainability. This study also analyzes the construction of the narrative of tawhid, the concept of khalifah, and environmental responsibility in social media as a contemporary space for da’wah. Theoretical framework: This study is grounded in Islamic eco-theology, environmental communication theory, social learning theory, and the cultural da’wah paradigm to explain the process of internalizing theological values through digital interactions within an urban societal context. Literature review: Previous studies indicate the effectiveness of digital da’wah in enhancing the religiosity of the younger generation as well as the normative contributions of eco-theology to environmental ethics. However, the integration of eco-theology-based digital da’wah models with the formation of ecological awareness among Generation Z in the context of Indonesian cities remains limited. Methods: This study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design in Palembang City. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with da’is, Muslim environmental activists, da’wah content creators, and Generation Z; observation of Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube content; and Focus Group Discussions. Analysis was conducted using thematic reflection. Results: Findings indicate that digital eco-theological da’wah builds ecological awareness through narratives of ecological tawhid, the personalization of messages based on urban experiences, and digital role modeling, thereby fostering a transformation from cognitive awareness toward pro-environmental behavioral commitments aligned with the SDGs. Implications: The findings offer practical insights for developing digital da’wah strategies that foster environmental responsibility and support the SDGs among Muslim youth. Novelty: This study proposes a contextual digital eco-theological da’wah model that integrates Islamic environmental values, digital communication, and ecological awareness among Generation Z.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the dynamics of social conflict between youth and the conflict reconciliation process in the context of mountain-coastal communities in Kalabahi, Alor Regency. This study focuses on understanding how conflicts are formed, developed, and resolved through social mechanisms based on local wisdom. Theoretical Framework: This study uses the perspective of Conflict Sociology and Conflict Transformation which views conflict as a social phenomenon that not only needs to be resolved, but also transformed into a force in building sustainable social cohesion. Literature Review: Youth social conflict from the perspective of local social dynamics, conflict reconciliation as a socio-cultural mechanism and social dynamics of mountains and coasts in the framework of traditional alliances. Method: This study uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological type to explore the subjective experiences of youth and communities involved in the conflict. Data collection techniques were carried out through triangulation, including observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, which were analyzed using qualitative data analysis techniques. Results: The findings indicate that inter-youth conflict is influenced by social identity factors, historical memory, and the weak role of formal institutions. Conflict reconciliation can be carried out by identifying the roots of the conflict and integrating legal and cultural approaches in a sustainable manner through collaboration between local governments, security forces, and community leaders. Local wisdom mechanisms such as cross-alliance kinship relations, customary deliberations, and socio-cultural practices have proven effective in rebuilding trust and social cohesion. Implications: Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 16) in building inclusive and sustainable youth conflict reconciliation through the synergy of customary institutions and formal institutions. Novelty: Developing a reconciliation model based on mountain-coastal dynamics in a contextual and adaptive Conflict Transformation perspective.

Abstract

Objective: Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) constitute a fundamental competency in postgraduate education because they enable students to analyze, evaluate, and generate innovative solutions to complex educational problems. Grounded in the Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy, this study aims to examine the cognitive maturity of third-semester Master of Islamic Religious Education students by mapping their cognitive performance across levels C1–C6 in responses to Final Semester Examination questions. Theoretical framework: The study is theoretically grounded in the Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy, which conceptualizes cognitive development as progressing from remembering (C1) and understanding (C2) to applying (C3), analyzing (C4), evaluating (C5), and creating (C6). Literature review: Previous studies have consistently reported that university students tend to demonstrate proficiency at lower cognitive levels while encountering difficulties in higher-order thinking, particularly in analysis, evaluation, and creation. Method: This study employed a document and content analysis approach by examining the examination answer sheets of 15 postgraduate students. Each response was systematically coded according to the cognitive processes of the Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy, while quantitative descriptive analysis was used to determine the percentage distribution of cognitive levels, supported by qualitative interpretation of students’ reasoning, analytical depth, and argument quality. Results: The findings reveal that 73% of students remained within lower-order cognitive levels (C1–C3), demonstrating competencies in remembering, understanding, and applying concepts. Only 27% achieved the analytical level (C4), whereas none demonstrated evaluation (C5) or creation (C6). These findings indicate that postgraduate students’ cognitive maturity remains below expectations and is influenced by instructional practices emphasizing factual knowledge and procedural understanding rather than analytical, evaluative, and creative thinking. Implications: The study implies that postgraduate learning should integrate active learning strategies, authentic assessment, and HOTS-oriented question design to cultivate higher cognitive competencies. Strengthening these dimensions contributes directly to Sustainable Development Goal 4 by improving educational quality and preparing graduates capable of critical reasoning and innovative problem-solving. Novelty: The novelty of this research lies in providing an empirical cognitive maturity profile of Islamic Religious Education postgraduate students through systematic examination analysis, offering evidence-based recommendations for redesigning postgraduate instruction and assessment toward higher-order thinking development.

Abstract

Objective: This research aims to reconstruct Islamic education through the integration of Maqāṣid al-Sharī'ah and SDGs with an emphasis on social justice and environmental balance in the context of madrasas. Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework combines the concepts of Maqāṣid al-Sharī'ah and the SDGs as a foundation in shaping education oriented towards the values of social justice, ethics, and ecological responsibility. Literature review: Literature review confirms the importance of shifting Islamic education from an approach that focuses on ritual aspects to transformative learning that supports social value and sustainability. Method: The research used a qualitative approach with a case study design at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah in Jember. Data was collected through interviews, observations, questionnaires, and documentation, and then analyzed thematically by triangulation. Results: The results show that educational practices in madrassas have reflected the values of maqāṣid and SDGs, such as religious habits, mutual respect, and environmental concern. However, the implementation of the SDGs is still implicit and not fully systematic, especially in the aspect of environmental management. Implications: Madrasas have a strategic role in supporting sustainable value-based development, so the integration of Islamic education and SDGs needs to be strengthened in the curriculum and learning practices. Novelty:  This research offers an integrative framework of the Maqāṣid-SDGs that emphasizes the transformation of Islamic education towards the strengthening of social ethics and ecological awareness.
