Abstract

Objective: This study examines the psychospiritual dimensions of Sufism and their relationship to sustainable mental well-being and inner peace through the integration of nafs, qalb, and ruh. The study also highlights the relevance of Sufism to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 concerning Good Health and Well-Being. Theoretical framework: Sufism views humans as multidimensional beings consisting of nafs (soul/self), qalb (heart), and ruh (spirit). The balance among these dimensions is essential for achieving emotional stability and inner peace through tazkiyatun nafs (purification of the soul). Literature review: Previous studies on Sufism, Islamic psychology, and mental health indicate that spiritual practices such as dhikr, muraqabah, and muhasabah contribute to emotional regulation, anxiety reduction, and psychological well-being. Method: This study employed a qualitative approach using a systematic literature review. Data were collected from books, journals, and scholarly publications related to Sufism, Islamic psychology, and mental health, then analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Results: The findings show that imbalance among nafs, qalb, and ruh may lead to anxiety, emotional instability, and inner conflict. In contrast, practices such as dhikr, muraqabah, muhasabah, and tawakkal support emotional regulation, self-awareness, resilience, and inner peace. Implications: This study demonstrates that Sufism offers a holistic psychospiritual framework for promoting sustainable mental well-being through the integration of psychological and spiritual dimensions. Novelty: The novelty of this study lies in integrating classical Sufi concepts with modern psychological perspectives to formulate a psychospiritual model of sustainable mental well-being.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the economic transformation of Islamic boarding schools through case studies of Sidogiri Islamic Boarding School and Idrisiyyah Islamic Boarding School, as well as identify the success factors of integrating religious values and modern business management. Theoretical framework: This research uses the concepts of Islamic economics, community empowerment, and social entrepreneurship that emphasize the integration of spiritual values with professional business management. Literature review:  The literature shows that pesantren not only function as religious educational institutions, but also develop into centers for community-based economic empowerment and social entrepreneurship. Method: The study used an instrumental comparative case study approach by comparing the economic transformation of the Sidogiri Islamic Boarding School and the Idrisiyyah Islamic Boarding School. Results: The results of the study show that the two Islamic boarding schools have succeeded in developing various community-based business units. This success is supported by the kyai-santri relationship, the concept of solemnity, spiritual values, and community loyalty. Implications: Pesantren have great potential as agents of economic empowerment and sustainable development that support the achievement of the SDGs, especially poverty alleviation and inclusive economic growth. Novelty: The novelty of this research lies in the analysis of the integration of religious traditions and modern business management in the economic development of pesantren and its contribution to the SDGs in Indonesia.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to examine the influence of accreditation standards on improving educational quality in Muhammadiyah junior high schools, focusing on how accreditation drives systemic change in Islamic secondary education, aligning with SDG Goal 4: Quality Education. Theoretical framework:  Grounded in systemic change theory, this study explores how accreditation serves as a mechanism for quality improvement, integrating quality management and organizational development theories to assess its impact on governance, curriculum, and teacher development in line with the SDGs. Literature review:  While accreditation is recognized for enhancing educational quality, its role in driving systemic change in Islamic secondary education remains underexplored. Previous research has primarily addressed its administrative role, with growing interest in its potential for curriculum reform, teacher development, and organizational improvements, in alignment with SDG Goal 4 for inclusive and equitable quality education. Methods:  A mixed-methods approach was used, including a survey of 602 respondents from 6 Muhammadiyah junior high schools. The data were analyzed using PLS-SEM to assess the relationship between accreditation standards and educational quality, complemented by interviews and document analysis for deeper insights. Results:  The study found a strong and statistically significant relationship between accreditation standards and educational quality (path coefficient = 0.697, p-value = 0.000). Improvements were noted in educational facilities, alignment with the school’s vision, policy development, financial management, and teacher professional growth. These findings emphasize that accreditation is not just an administrative requirement but a key driver of systemic change and quality improvement. Implications:  Accreditation can be leveraged as a strategic tool for educational reform, fostering continuous improvement in governance, curriculum, and teacher development. Policymakers and educators should utilize accreditation to align practices with SDG Goal 4, ensuring inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all. Novelty: This study contributes to the limited research on accreditation as a driver of systemic change in Islamic secondary education, presenting it as a strategic tool for fostering a culture of quality. The mixed-methods approach provides comprehensive insights into accreditation's impact on school development, advancing SDG Goal 4.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the policy contestation between PKBM and PKPPS in equality education in Islamic boarding schools. This research also formulates a more integrated reconstruction model of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) services to support the achievement of SDG 4. Theoretical framework: This study uses the Collaborative Governance framework from Ansell and Gash (2008). The framework emphasizes collaboration between stakeholders to address regulatory fragmentation and improve the effectiveness of education governance. Literature review: A literature review discusses the dynamics of equality education policies in Indonesia, especially the relationship between PKBM and PKPPS. The literature also highlights the dualism of regulations between ministries and their impact on pesantren governance and graduate recognition. Methods: This study uses a qualitative approach with a policy analysis method. The analysis focused on regulations related to PKBM and PKPPS to identify overlapping policies and their impact on pesantren education services. Results: The results of the study show that there is a regulatory dualism between the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Religion. This condition triggers governance fragmentation, bureaucratic inefficiency, and inequality in the recognition of equality education graduates in Islamic boarding schools. Implications: This study emphasizes the importance of policy integration and cross-sectoral synergy in the management of pesantren education. The proposed collaborative model can strengthen education governance and equity while supporting the achievement of SDG 4. Novelty: The novelty of this research lies in the policy reconstruction model based on the five pillars of Collaborative Governance. This model is realized through a one-roof system that integrates EMIS and Dapodik and combines the yellow book curriculum with global competency standards.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the inconsistencies in Islamic banking financing practices that formally adopt sharia contracts but substantively deviate from the principles of fiqh muamalah, as well as to examine their implications for Islamic financial governance and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Theoretical framework: This study applies the theoretical framework of fiqh muamalah and maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, emphasizing justice, transparency, trustworthiness, ethical finance, and equitable risk-sharing in Islamic banking practices. Literature review: Previous studies show that murābaḥah, mudhārabah, mushārakah, and IMBT financing often resemble conventional banking practices. Method: This study employs qualitative normative legal research using literature review and documentation techniques. Results: The findings reveal that several Islamic financing practices still contain substantive irregularities, including weak profit-and-loss sharing mechanisms, fixed-profit orientation, excessive collateral requirements, and contractual ambiguity, which reduce conformity with fiqh muamalah principles. Implications: Strengthening substantive Sharia compliance and Islamic financial governance is essential to support ethical and sustainable finance aligned with SDGs. Novelty: This study integrates fiqh muamalah, Islamic financial governance, and SDGs perspectives into the analysis of Islamic banking financing practices.

Abstract

Objective: This study examines the integration of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the implementation of the Independent Learning Curriculum in Islamic Religious Education (IRE) and Ethics subjects at two North Jakarta high schools. In line with SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), the research aims to: (1) analyze curriculum planning; (2) describe classroom implementation; (3) explain the evaluation system; and (4) identify driving and inhibiting factors in integrating SDGs-oriented learning. Theoretical framework: The theoretical framework draws upon constructivist learning theory, curriculum reform theory, and Islamic character education, emphasizing student-centered, values-based, and transformative learning. Literature review: A review of recent literature highlights that integrating SDGs into religious education strengthens global citizenship, ethical awareness, and social responsibility, yet empirical evidence in Indonesian IRE contexts remains limited. Methods: This research employs a qualitative naturalistic field approach. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation at SMA Al Jihad and SMA Al Khairiyah, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. Results: Findings reveal that curriculum planning involves a structured selection and training process for school leaders and comprehensive preparation of teaching documents. Implementation in Grade X applies TaRL (Teaching at the Right Level) and PJBL (Project-Based Learning), incorporating community resource persons to contextualize SDGs values. Evaluation adopts Assessment of Learning, for Learning, and as Learning, utilizing diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments conducted transparently and accountably. Driving factors include strong leadership readiness, teacher collaboration, parental involvement, and supportive socio-cultural environments. Inhibiting factors involve limited teacher references, insufficient experience, and inadequate learning facilities. Implications: The study implies that systematic SDGs integration in IRE and Ethics enhances ethical competence, social piety, and institutional accountability. Novelty: The novelty lies in providing empirical evidence of SDGs mainstreaming within Indonesia’s Independent Curriculum in Islamic secondary education.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to determine the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum among class students and to determine the extent of its influence on the learning outcomes of class VII A students in SMP Negeri 6 Surakarta in the 2024/2025 academic year. Theoretical framework: This theory is based on theoretical concepts and previous findings related to the educational curriculum, especially the Merdeka Curriculum, learning outcomes, specifically Islamic religious education, and active student participation in learning. Literature review: There is a considerable amount of research on the Merdeka Curriculum, but that related to learning outcomes in Islamic religious education is still limited. Method: This study used a quantitative method by distributing questionnaires. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics techniques and processed using SPSS for Windows. Results: The study revealed two key findings. First, the Merdeka Curriculum in Islamic Religious Education contributes to the development of students who are not only academically proficient but also exhibit noble character and morals, in line with the Pancasila Student Profile. Second, the implementation of the Independent Curriculum significantly improved students' learning outcomes in Islamic Religious Education. It enhanced their understanding of religious concepts, promoted active participation in the learning process, and reinforced key character values such as tolerance, cooperation, and responsibility, in alignment with SDG 4.7 (education for sustainable development and global citizenship). Implications: The Independent Curriculum serves as a crucial factor in improving learning outcomes in Islamic Religious Education. Its emphasis on character-building and student-centred learning supports the broader goals of SDG 4 (inclusive and quality education). Novelty: This study examines the implementation of the Independent Curriculum in Islamic Religious Education, which has distinct material characteristics and learning approaches due to its emphasis on moral, spiritual, and character-building values.
