Abstract

Node or intersection is one aspect in the theory of city image that functions as a point of intersection of urban paths or lanes. There is one potential intersection point in the Morning Market Commercial Area, one of the commercial areas in Samarinda City. The lack of parking space and irregular vehicles parked on the shoulder of the road disrupt traffic around the market and interfere with pedestrian space. Based on the existing conditions that have intersection points, a shared street space design is offered which is a concept approach to spatial design on the road to minimise the differences between vehicle movement, cyclists, and pedestrians. This application is intended to develop the function of the Morning Market intersection to create harmony for road users through analysis of image elements, land figures and elements of urban area design, context, structure and interrelationships of the area and environmental conditions such as sun, wind, visibility and visual quality with mapping and descriptive. The synthesis results are formulated descriptively into principles, elements and visual designs and are equipped with literature studies related to shared street space design aspects.

Abstract

Creating a comprehensive security architecture that covers both technological and organizational aspects of BIM security. Digital surveillance has become an inherent aspect of modern life, with technology such as big data, algorithms, and artificial intelligence monitoring and collecting individual personal data from architects' creative work processes. This paper discusses how the concept of the panopticon, which was originally designed for a social institution and later interpreted by Michel Foucault and Deleuze, is relevant to understanding how power operates through concealed but ongoing observation. The panopticon was initially a prison architecture in which convicts felt continually observed even when the supervisor was not present. In the digital era in all areas, this study focuses on architectural design.

Abstract

Pontianak City, which has a tropical humid climate, faces challenges in creating a comfortable learning environment due to the high temperatures and humidity throughout the year. This scientific paper aims to explain the concept of designing a Senior High School (SMA) building in Pontianak City using a tropical architecture approach that can optimise thermal comfort for its occupants. This design applies tropical architecture principles by considering building orientation, utilising natural ventilation and lighting, and using suitable materials to mitigate excessive heat and humidity. Additionally, green open spaces and solar radiation control are integrated to create a healthy and energy-efficient environment. The zoning of spaces is also designed to support the comfort and productivity of students, teachers, and educational staff. The design of this school is expected to provide an idea of a school design model that applies thermal comfort optimisation for users, creating a comfortable learning environment that supports sustainability in the tropics area.

Abstract

The space syntax paradigm and theory developed by Bill Hillier has commonly been used in planning and design, focusing on understanding or analysing the relationships between spaces and humans, particularly in public spaces. The specific focus of public space in this study is the market. The problem formulated for discussion is whether this concept can assist in designing the market to have good spatial accessibility and even movement patterns in each area. This research utilises a literature review method with a building design approach that incorporates the space syntax concept in planning and design to obtain relevant research findings. In several pieces of literature, the use of space syntax itself can provide insights into designing and achieving the goal of ensuring easy accessibility and good movement patterns in market spaces. Consequently, it can be concluded that space syntax can serve as a tool in design by seeking alternatives to address existing issues so that building users feel comfortable.

Abstract

Cultural and Sports Center Area (PKOR) is a public open space that is one of the landmarks of Way Halim Area, Bandar Lampung City. PKOR area is used for various big events and trading activities as well as a place to exercise, which makes this place always visited by people from various regions. Public open space facilities that are pretty complete increase the desire of the community to keep returning. The existing sports and cultural activities fill the PKOR area, making it a public space. This research focuses on examining one of the factors that form a sense of place, namely form (place), which is a factor that can turn space into place. This research aims to examine the form (place) in the PKOR area. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with primary data collection by collecting respondent data and directly observing activities in the PKOR area. The study results show that the area's physical form greatly influences various aspects of public open space in developing a destination, so the arrangement of the number and type of physical attributes significantly affects place-making.

Abstract

Various solutions to urban problems caused by increased urbanisation have been tried, including a sustainable development strategy. Point 11 of the Sustainable Development Goals calls for urban development to focus on creating inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable settings. Green open space is a vital urban environment for people's lives, and providing it does not mean sacrificing inclusive aims, such as establishing safe and sustainable spaces. This research aims to find a common ground between how to plan the provision of inclusive urban green spaces and enhance its users' safety perception. This study employed a comprehensive literature review approach. The collected literature is based on commonalities in study objectives, and the outcomes are compared to conclude this research. According to the literature review results, inclusive and safe public places are connected concepts. Designing security facilities in green open spaces can help to improve inclusion. Furthermore, developing safe green open spaces indirectly improves the space's social performance, creating inclusive green spaces.

Abstract

The discovery of ruins of temple buildings were generally discovered by colonial peoples, both Dutch and British, in the 19th and 20th centuries, with the form almost no longer intact, making it very difficult to identify and guarantee the correctness of the architectural form after renovation. The restoration results carried out by archaeologists, especially at temples in Sumatra, are generally only limited to the foot of the temple or the foundations. However, the layout and orientation of the temple buildings are visible, providing a solid guide and basis for interpreting the layout and orientation of temples in Sumatra. In this research, researchers took the case of temples in Sumatra, including Bumiayu Temple, Muaro Jambi Temple, and Muaro Takus Temple. The research methods chosen were field studies and literature studies with a qualitative approach. An important discovery in this research is the configuration of the Muaro Takus Temple as a replica of the mountain cluster on Bukit Barisan to the west and southwest of the temple, whereas in the case of the Muaro Jambi site, the natah room or central courtyard. This study of spatial planning is very important because it is related to the zoning, orientation and grouping of buildings in temple clusters in Sumatra
