ndonesian Journal of Coastal and Marine Studies Institut Teknologi dan Bisnis Maritim Blaik Diwa e-ISSN: 3124-1247 is a scientific journal published openly and peer-reviewed, containing original research articles, literature reviews, and policy analysis in the marine and coastal fields. This journal aims to be an academic and practical forum in supporting sustainable development, management, and utilization of marine and coastal resources, especially in tropical and Indo-Pacific regions. The scope of IJCMS covers a variety of topics in the fields of: 1) Marine and coastal ecosystems such as biodiversity and conservation, studies on coral reefs, mangroves, and seagrasses, and the impact of climate change on the marine environment; 2) Fisheries science and aquaculture, such as sustainable cultivation practices, fish health, nutrition, breeding, and management of fishery resources accompanied by socio-economic analysis; 3) Fishery product technology, such as innovation in marine product processing, food safety, quality control, product development, to cold chain systems and value-added processed products; 4) Utilization and management of water resources, such as integrated coastal area management, blue economy development, marine spatial planning, and utilization of technology to support water governance; 5) Marine policy, law, and business, such as maritime law and coastal governance, marine and fisheries policy analysis, and coastal community empowerment and blue entrepreneurship; and 6) Marine science and oceanography, such as articles related to physical, chemical, and biological oceanography, the use of technology such as remote sensing and GIS, and oceanographic modeling in the context of climate change.

Abstract

Frozen boneless milkfish is an innovative processed fishery product with high economic value, but product quality must be maintained to ensure food safety and competitiveness in the market. This study aims to analyze the suitability of frozen boneless milkfish quality at XYZ SMEs using the Statistical Process Control (SPC) approach. The quality parameters observed include sensory tests (color, aroma, taste, and texture), microbiological tests in the form of Total Plate Count (TLC), and measurements of the core temperature of the fish. The study used two storage methods, namely freezer and cold storage, with three storage periods (7, 14, and 21 days) and each was carried out three times. The results showed that all samples met the sensory quality standard with a value of ≥7, the core temperature of the fish was in the range of ≤–18°C, and the TLC value was still below the maximum limit of SNI, which is ≤5×10⁵ colonies/g. However, the results of the SPC analysis using the X-chart and R-chart control charts showed several points outside the control limits, indicating that the production process was not yet fully statistically stable. This indicates that although product quality generally meets standards, variations in the production process still need to be controlled to maintain quality consistency between batches. Therefore, the implementation of continuous quality control and production process improvements are essential to improve process stability and product quality of frozen boneless milkfish.

Abstract

Freshwater and marine fish farming faces challenges as the need for tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) is one of the many fishery commodities, easy to find and widely cultivated in Indonesia. Tilapia can be cultivated in various places such as ponds, reservoirs, rice fields, ponds, rivers and even in waters that have higher salt levels than brackish freshwater. Experimental research experiment design, factorial design (complete randomized design) The experiment carried out in this study was the use of blue light color with different times as many as 3 treatments each repeated 3 times: Treatment A = 10 watt blue light without time change Treatment B = 10 watt blue light with 4 hours Treatment C = 10 watt blue light with 6 hours. Statistical data analysis using the ANOVA test was carried out using the help of the SPSS 16.0 program. The analysis aimed to find out the influence of blue light colour on the behaviour and growth of tilapia seeds. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that, Treatment of different irradiation times (0 hours, 4 hours, and 6 hours) has a significant influence on the absolute weight growth of tilapia. Treatment with a 6-hour radiation time per day showed the best weight growth compared to other treatments.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze biomass and carbon absorption in mangrove leaves and roots, especially Rhizophora mucronata and Avicennia alba. Data collection was carried out using purposive sampling techniques at two different location points. The measurement of biomass, carbon absorption in mangrove leaves and roots begins by taking samples using scissors and saws on the three predetermined trees and then taking them to the laboratory for analysis. The results showed that the average value of biomass in Avicennia alba leaves was higher (42.69 grams) than that of Rhizophora mucronata leaves (34.66 grams). Meanwhile, the highest average value of root biomass was in the mangrove Rhizophora mucronata (127.86 grams) compared to the root biomass of Avicennia alba (89.43 grams). The highest average value of leaf organ carbon absorption was in the mangrove Rhizophora mucronata (11.21%) compared to the mangrove Avicennia alba (9.09%). Meanwhile, the highest average value of root carbon absorption was in the Avicennia alba mangrove (12.17%) compared to the root carbon absorption of Rhizophora mucronata (10.85%). The results of the T-test showed that the carbon uptake in Rhizophora mucronata leaves differed significantly at 0.031 (<0.05) which means that Rhizophora mucronata leaves absorbed more carbon than Avicennia alba leaves, while others did not differ significantly (>0.05). The measured water quality parameters including temperature, pH, and salinity show that all water quality parameters are within the range of quality standards according to PP RI no. 21 of 2022 for marine life, except for the temperature at station 1 of the Rhizophora mucronata mangrove (Station 1: temperature 25.66 °C; pH 7.12; salinity 27.33 ppt and station 2: temperature 29.4 °C; pH 7.25; salinity 25.16 ppt.

Abstract

PT. Arti Buana Lautan Indonesia is a fishery processing company producing frozen yellowtail fish fillets (Caesio cuning) for export markets. This study aimed to analyze the implementation of Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) in the fish fillet freezing process. A descriptive method with a case study approach was used. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using a checklist based on the Regulation of the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia No. 17/PERMEN-KP/2019. The results showed that SSOP implementation was categorized as very good, with an overall average score of 94.71%. The highest score was found in employee health control (96.53%), while the lowest was in water and ice safety (93.94%). Other assessed aspects included cleanliness of food contact surfaces, prevention of cross-contamination, sanitation facilities, chemical handling, and pest control. Overall, SSOP implementation effectively supported product quality assurance and food safety standards for export products.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the distribution of chlorophyll-a concentration and determine the water productivity status in Barrang Caddi Island, Makassar, Indonesia. Chlorophyll-a is widely recognized as an important indicator of phytoplankton abundance and primary productivity in marine ecosystems. The study was conducted in May 2025 using two approaches, namely direct measurements through spectrophotometric analysis and remote sensing analysis based on Aqua MODIS satellite imagery processed using SeaDAS software. Water samples were collected from three sampling stations, while satellite observations were performed weekly throughout the study period. The accuracy of satellite-derived chlorophyll-a data was evaluated using the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) method. Spectrophotometric analysis revealed that chlorophyll-a was detected only at Station 2, with a concentration of 0.068 mg m⁻³, whereas concentrations at Stations 1 and 3 were below the detection limit. In contrast, remote sensing analysis showed higher chlorophyll-a concentrations ranging from 0.740 to 1.244 mg m⁻³ during the observation period. These values indicate that the waters surrounding Barrang Caddi Island were generally characterized by moderate productivity and classified as mesotrophic. The RMSE value between laboratory measurements and satellite-derived estimates was 1.176 mg m⁻³, indicating a considerable discrepancy between the two methods. Despite this difference, remote sensing proved effective for describing the spatial and temporal distribution of chlorophyll-a over a wide area. The findings suggest that Barrang Caddi Island waters possess moderate biological productivity and have the potential to support sustainable fisheries and other marine resource management activities

Abstract

Inorganic marine debris is a serious problem in coastal areas with high intensity of human activity. This study aims to characterize and measure the density of inorganic marine debris in the Tanjung Bunga area, Makassar City. Using a descriptive quantitative approach, the method applied was a 100 m line transect at three locations, namely station one residential area, station two gazebo area, and station three coastline. Data were collected in three repetitions covering the type, size and mass of debris, and supported by secondary oceanographic data (tides, currents, waves) from BMKG. The results showed that plastic was the most dominant type of debris (674 items), followed by wood (576), metal (354), styrofoam (202), rubber (170) and glass (94), with the largest mass recorded in plastic on the coastline, namely 10.95 kg. Based on size, macro debris dominated (61-67%), followed by meso (27-35%) and mega (4-6%). Oceanographic conditions reflect moderate-strong currents (19.2-43.6 cm/s), high waves between 0.28-0.40 meters, and a double daily tidal pattern, all of which influence waste distribution patterns. These findings confirm that plastic is a major threat to the coastal ecosystem in Tanjung Bunga (Jambeck et al., 2015; Suryawan, 2025), and serve as an important basis for formulating marine waste management policies and increasing public awareness.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the types of coral infected by pests and diseases, determine the types of diseases and pests that attack, and calculate the prevalence rate of pests and diseases in the coral transplant media of the Turtle model in the waters of Barrang Caddi Island, Makassar City. The study was conducted at six transplant points (Turtle 1–Turtle 6) using a non-experimental quantitative method with field observation, documentation, and measurement of oceanographic parameters (temperature, salinity, pH, current, depth). The results showed that the most infected coral species were Acropora formosa and Pocillopora damicornis, with the dominant pests being algae, sponges, predators, and ascidians, while the diseases found were bleaching and white band disease. The prevalence rate of pests was higher than that of diseases, with an average percentage of 29.82% for pests and 18.43% for diseases in the rainy season, and 20.08% (pests) and 14.04% (diseases) in the summer. This difference indicates that the greatest pressure on the coral ecosystem of the Turtle model transplant comes from pests, especially algae, compared to diseases. These findings provide an initial overview of the health conditions of coral transplants on Barrang Caddi Island and can be used as a reference in coral reef management and rehabilitation strategies in the Spermonde area.
