Abstract

Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis. Knee osteoarthritis is one of the main causes of disability. This degenerative and progressive joint disease affects approximately 250 million people worldwide. Pain, tenderness and decreased joint range of motion as well as joint stiffness are symptoms that can occur in osteoarthritis sufferers. The prevalence of this disease increases with age. Until the age of 45, knee osteoarthritis affects more men than women, but after the age of 45 the opposite happens. Apart from age and gender, individuals who often do certain physical activities for a long time while doing their work, such as kneeling, squatting, climbing stairs, standing for long periods and lifting heavy weights, can increase the risk of developing osteoarthritis. The aim of this service is to prevent the occurrence of genu osteoarthritis in elderly posyandu participants in Pandean Village, Dongko District, Trenggalek Regency through education regarding genu osteoarthritis. Socialization regarding genu osteoarthritis which was delivered in the form of definition, causes, risk factors, therapy and prevention was given to the elderly. The results of this service activity are increasing the elderly's knowledge about the condition of genu osteoarthritis, and being able to carry out physical exercise as an effort to prevent the incidence of osteoarthritis in Pandean Village, Dongko District, Trenggalek Regency

Abstract

Referring to the bipolar prevalence rate in East Java which is relatively high, public awareness in countries with a dominant percentage of lower middle income is still relatively low due to the many clashes and interactions in daily life with many conflicts, culture, trauma, perspectives, level of education, limitations to health services’ access, and disparities in social status, as well as the minimal allocation of government policy focus related to mental health aspects. The low level of knowledge and awareness as well as the direction of intervention towards mental health will have an impact on the stability and resilience of individuals and groups in maintaining their quality of life due to ignorance regarding defensive mechanisms and seeking appropriate health service assistance, which then becomes a repeating cycle and becomes a problem that is difficult to resolve. Purpose: The aim of this program is to raise awareness of bipolar disorder among the people in the East Java region. Methods: The community service activity carried out in this study was counseling about Bipolar. Education includes definitions, causes, risk factors, environmental manipulation therapy, and prevention of Bipolar disorder. Pretest and posttest were also carried out to measure public knowledge about Bipolar disease using a Google form-based questionnaire. Counseling is carried out online using the Zoom meeting platform. Results: There were 23 respondents who completed the questionnaire out of the 39 counseling participants. 34.78% to 100% of respondents were distributed according to their level of knowledge prior to pre-counseling and following counseling. Conclusion: After receiving counseling, everyone of the 23 study participants had a solid understanding of bipolar illness.

Abstract

Background: Recurrence is the return of a disease after the symptoms of the disease have subsided until it is severe enough to interfere with daily activities and requires unscheduled hospitalization/walking. Lack of social and family support is one of the causes of relapse. The family is the main support system in providing direct care to someone with mental illness. If the family has resilience, they can cope with stress and provide care for ODGJ to prevent relapse. Purpose: To increase the knowledge of the community, especially families, about the role of the family in patient care as an effort to prevent relapse of patients with mental disorders. Methods: The method used is a descriptive data analysis technique which compares the total correct and incorrect answers in each statement between the questionnaire before and after counseling. Results: The results obtained before counseling were 20% of families understood the trigger and prevention of relapse for patients with mental disorders, while after counseling 80% of families understood the trigger and prevention of relapse for patients with mental disorders. Conclusion: There is an increase in family knowledge in patient care as an effort to prevent relapse of patients with mental disorders.

Abstract

Background: The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that 1 in 10 people worldwide suffers from illnesses caused by contaminated food, resulting in approximately two million deaths annually, particularly in developing countries. Food poisoning, caused by bacteria, viruses, parasites, or toxins, primarily affects children. Consumption of contaminated food can lead to symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, and nausea. The link between food and health has been recognized since the time of Hippocrates. The occurrence of this disease is influenced by factors like food production, handling, and hygiene. Prevention can be achieved through proper food management and hygienic practices. To raise awareness of food poisoning, the B39 group of medical interns proposed an educational program in the Internal Medicine Outpatient Clinic at RSU Haji, East Java Province. The objective of this service initiative is to increase awareness among patients and families in the Internal Medicine Clinic at RSU Haji Surabaya on the importance of preventing food poisoning following the educational session. Methods: This study uses a descriptive method with a cross-sectional design, conducted in the Internal Medicine Clinic at RSU Haji Surabaya on August 18, 2023. The study population includes all patients present, with a sample of 17 individuals who completed a questionnaire. Inclusion criteria include patients willing to participate, while exclusion criteria are patients unable to read or write. The sampling technique used is total sampling. The independent variable is the patient's understanding of food poisoning, while the dependent variable is the knowledge and food safety practices after the education session. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire that has been validated and tested for reliability, consisting of 15 questions on a Guttman scale. Data were analyzed based on questionnaire responses to assess patients' understanding of food poisoning. Results: The pre-test results showed that most patients had minimal knowledge of food poisoning, with 8 patients scoring <60, 6 patients scoring between 60-79, and 3 patients scoring >80. After the educational material was delivered, a post-test was conducted to evaluate patient understanding. Post-test results showed 6 patients scoring >80, 8 patients scoring between 60-79, and 3 patients scoring <60. A total of 14 out of 17 patients (82%) achieved scores above 60. Therefore, the target for raising awareness about food poisoning was achieved. Conclusion: Food poisoning is caused by contaminated food due to bacteria or parasites, with symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Management includes assessing consciousness, analyzing suspected food, and preventing dehydration. Severe symptoms require medical treatment. Preventive measures include maintaining hygiene, washing food ingredients, and cooking thoroughly.
