Abstract

This research focuses on the phenomenon of women who are required to remove their hijab due to job demands in Surabaya City. Discrimination in work requirements that mandate removing the hijab has caused controversy to this day. Many still consider that companies or workplaces do not tolerate women who are Muslim women wearing hijab, arguing that their work environment is a public place, not a mosque where hijab must be worn in the office or while working. The main objective of this research is to understand the factors that influence women's decisions to remove their hijab when working and to identify the impacts of women's decisions to remove their hijab. The method used in this research involved interviewing several selected sources to delve deeper into the decisions made. This research also used literature analysis and library studies relevant to the latest research developments. This research uses alienation theory proposed by Karl Marx. The research results show that factors such as social pressure, perceptions of professional image, and company policies affect these decisions. The impacts vary, including changes in coworker relationships and changes in women's identity.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of religious-based parenting on the social development of elementary school students. The research was conducted in Semarang Regency, involving 40 elementary school students, divided into two groups: 20 students attending religious-based schools and 20 students attending national schools. This study uses a quantitative approach with a comparative design to compare the social development of students based on religious-based parenting. Data were collected using a questionnaire that measured aspects of social development, such as the ability to interact with peers, empathy, and the ability to adapt to social situations. The results of the study showed that students from religious-based schools tended to have better social skills, with higher levels of empathy and cooperation compared to students in national schools. This indicates that religious-based parenting can have a positive impact on students' social development, particularly in fostering better social character. The study provides recommendations for educators and parents to consider parenting approaches that support positive social development, both in the family and school environment.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the role of the Muhammadiyah Al Mujahidin Islamic boarding school in developing an entrepreneurial spirit among students. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, this research collected data through in-depth interviews, field observations, and document review. The research results show that the Muhammadiyah Al Mujahidin Islamic boarding school plays an important role in instilling and developing an entrepreneurial spirit among students through various programs and activities, such as entrepreneurial learning, practical training, business mentoring, and providing access to resources. Key factors that support this effort include strong commitment from Islamic boarding school leaders, life skills-based curriculum, partnerships with business actors, and empowerment of local potential. The findings of this research provide valuable insight into the strategic role of Islamic boarding schools in preparing students to become strong young entrepreneurs and contribute to community economic development.

Abstract

Indonesia has a unique position as the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, marked by a wealth of diverse local cultures. History records that the spread of Islam in Indonesia occurred peacefully through a process of acculturation, rather than conquest, resulting in a distinctive integration with local traditions. The arrival of Islam, with all its cultural components, successfully garnered the sympathy of the majority of the Indonesian people, and Islam was accepted into the local cultural landscape that had long been rooted in the archipelago. Cultural elements in Indonesia not only coexist with Islamic values but actively mediate their implementation, shaping various aspects of societal behavior. The Islamic cultural values in Indonesia can be packaged in such an appealing way that people do not realize that these Islamic values have become traditions in their daily lives. Islam has brought changes in various aspects of life, such as art, language, architecture, and ways of dressing, playing a role in integrating these cultural elements into a broader Islamic context.

Abstract

Production of theatrical plays is a creative endeavour that involves a complex process that develops from the first idea to the performance on the stage. This paper looks at the systematic process that exists in bringing a dramatic vision to theatrical reality, and the dynamic interplay between imagination, planning, collaboration, and execution. The study takes a qualitative and descriptive approach that combines literature on play production processes with case experiences from contemporary theatre practice in Nigeria and outside. Research indicates that the creative process usually happens through ideas generation, script development, casting, design, rehearsal and performance, where each phase involves specific skills and a need for co-operation from directors, actors, designers and technical teams. On the basis of the thesis that successful play production depends on effective coordination of artistic creativity and managerial discipline, the paper posits that audience engagement is the ultimate criterion of theatrical effectiveness, as it constitutes the representative sample of the play. Finally, it highlights the importance of innovation, collaboration, and adaptability in remaining relevant in an ever-evolving entertainment landscape. Recommendations are provided on how to enhance creative cooperation, invest in technical capacities and promote cultural specificity in productions to enrich the theatrical experience and ensure the vitality of the live performance form.

Abstract

The challenge of raising a child holistically to meet societal standard is becoming difficult in the 21st century and this poses a great concern for social and cultural stability, a situation were there seem to be moral and ethical decay. This paper seeks to present the African way of raising the child as a model to curb the growing challenges in parenting. This will however be discussed within the Urhobo cultural perspective.  Thus the aim of this paper is to showcase some of the Urhobo ways of child raising  as a model for enhancing a fairly balance moral society. The historical and phenomenological approaches were adopted. The research discovered that foreign cultural practices poses existential challengesto the Urhobo and African cultural heritages.  Also it discovered that there is the abandonment of cultural discipline, culture of hard-work, societal norms and values to adoption of western culture. The paper concludes that proper parenting and child-raising is cardinal to having a better future and society. Our cultural and traditional institutions should be the basis to enhancing this process. The study recommends that parents,  society and government should take child-raising a priority and see to it that cultural values and heritage are instill in the Urhobo children.

Abstract

The tension between Christian discipleship and political engagement has been a long-standing issue, especially in Nigeria, where corruption, inequality, and poor governance remain serious challenges. This study explores the Kingdom of God and political engagement in Nigeria, asking whether faithful discipleship allows Christians to participate in politics or whether politics risks corrupting their faith. This study aims to examine Jesus’ teachings on the Kingdom of God and show how they apply to Christian involvement in Nigerian politics today. Employing biblical exegesis, theological reflection, and contextual application, the study considers the words of Jesus about God’s Kingdom and applies them to Nigeria’s political realities. The research shows that the Kingdom of God is not limited to private spirituality but represents God’s rule that calls for justice, humility, and service. It challenges corruption, exposes oppression, and redefines leadership as service to others. Christians are therefore called to reflect Kingdom values in public life. Findings reveal that the Kingdom shapes Christian political ethics in Nigeria by stressing fairness for the poor, honesty in leadership, and peace in society. This means Christians should not withdraw from politics but engage in it with values rooted in Christ. The significance of this study is that it helps the Church see politics in Nigeria as an opportunity to witness to God’s reign in a society marked by selfishness and corruption. The study concludes that faithful discipleship includes responsible political participation and recommends that churches prepare members to engage politics with integrity, justice, and compassion.

Abstract

The formation of students’ spiritual values necessitates supportive activities beyond the formal curriculum, where the art of calligraphy is regarded as a transcendental medium involving the profound appreciation of sacred texts. This study aims to explore the role of calligraphy practices within the Student Activity Unit (UKM) LDK Arofah at UIN Walisongo Semarang and interpret how these practices contribute to the internalization of students’ spiritual character. Employing a qualitative approach with descriptive-analytical field research, primary data were gathered through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation involving key informants from various faculties. Data analysis focused on mapping the transition of values from the artistic realm to the domain of worship using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña interactive model. The findings suggest that calligraphy serves as a significant and consistent medium for spiritual training (mujahadah) and informal dhikr, transcending its aesthetic dimensions. This spiritual engagement is reflected in three integrated thematic pillars: the enhancement of taqarrub ila Allah through the appreciation of sacred texts; the development of discipline and istiqomah through the internalization of technical precision; and the cultivation of inner peace (jamāl) through transcendental reflection. Ultimately, calligraphy functions as a holistic catalyst that harmonizes outward artistic excellence with inward spiritual quality, strengthening the moral foundations of students.

Abstract

Religious healing practices continue to shape how Muslim communities interpret illness despite the expansion of modern healthcare systems. Ruqyah is commonly understood as a spiritual ritual or religious intervention, while its role as a therapeutic communicative practice of meaning-making remains underexplored. This article examines ruqyah as a form of religious coping that operates through healing communication in contemporary Islamic contexts. Using a qualitative literature-based approach through an integrative and thematic interpretive review, this study analyzes scholarly works on religious coping, Islamic spiritual healing, and the relationship between religion and modernity. The analysis applies thematic coding to communicative elements such as narrative framing, symbolic language, relational interaction, and meaning negotiation, identifying key themes of meaning-making, authority, narrative construction, and relationality. The findings demonstrate that ruqyah functions not merely as a spiritual ritual but as a symbolic and relational communicative process through which meanings of illness, hope, and acceptance are constructed. From a communication studies perspective, ruqyah operates as therapeutic communication in which meaning is co-constructed through religious narratives, interpersonal interaction, and faith-based symbolic language that frame experiences of suffering and healing. These processes help individuals reinterpret illness and strengthen psychological resilience within religious contexts. This study contributes to health communication scholarship by conceptualizing ruqyah as a communicative meaning-making practice rather than solely ritual healing. It further advances Islamic Studies by extending the concept of religious coping through a communicative perspective, highlighting the continuing relevance of Islamic healing practices within increasingly medicalized social environments.

Abstract

Hadith occupies a central position in the normative structure of Islam as the second source of law after the Qur’an and the historical medium for transmitting the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). However, the humanistic nature of hadith narration makes the problem of authenticity an unavoidable epistemological issue. This article aims to analyze hadith criticism in Islam as a historical and scientific process that develops from personal belief to systematic methodological standards. This research uses a library study method with a historical-epistemological approach to classical and contemporary literature on hadith science. The results of the study indicate that hadith criticism has been present since the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) through direct verification mechanisms, developed during the era of the Companions and Tabi’in through the affirmation of the importance of sanad (chain of transmission), and reached methodological maturity in the codification and post-codification periods through the disciplines of rijāl, jarḥ wa ta’dīl, and musthalaḥ al-ḥadīth. In the medieval period, hadith criticism functioned as a means of preserving and perfecting the scientific heritage through the traditions of shari’ah and takhrij. Meanwhile, in the modern era, hadith criticism has been adaptive and dialogical in responding to the challenges of Orientalism and the Qur’anic scripturalism movement. This article asserts that hadith criticism is not a rejection of the Sunnah, but rather a foundation of scientific rationality that safeguards the Prophet’s authority from historical distortion and ensures its relevance throughout the ages.
