Abstract

Pangkajene archipelago, is archipelago comprising 117 islands scattered in the West Coast District Pangkajene. The islands were inhabited by populations ranging from 10 to 250 heads of families. Most of the population livelihood as a fisherman. To support the daily basic needs are still supplied from the mainland, including the need for clean water. Community water needs during this time a lot depends on rain water that collected or from shallow groundwater. In line with population growth, water demand increases, so frequent water shortages, especially during the dry season. Sea water treatment technology with reverse osmosis systems is an alternative to the settlement of water shortage on the island, but because the number of islands many, it will be difficult to meet the needs of water in a short time. Therefore chosen the middle position of the three islands (Cakdi Saroppe Island, Island and Island Sanane view) as a distribution center. Installed capacity for each of the islands is 10 m3/day, which can serve to the needs of drinking water a thousand people. Water treatment technology with reverse osmosis pretreatment consist of the form of multi-media filter consisting of silica sand, zeolite, and activated carbon, followed by cartride filter and a reverse osmosis membrane. Construction of the water treatment unit involves people since it began surveying best location, construction, training and initial operation. Water that has been processed can drink for everyday purposes, therefore, to support the operations of the water is sold to the public for replacement of operational money. The biggest cost needed to produce water is the cost of fuel. By managing the sale of water expected operating costs can be met and comunity get drinking water at an affordable price.Keyword : dringking water, reverse osmosis, society engangement.

Abstract

Organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) in waters from five sampling point in Jabodetabek area have been determined using HRGC-HRMS. A total of 21 OCPs have been analyzed, however only few of OCPs were detected. Among HCH isomers, only -HCH and lindane (-HCH) were detected with concentration in the range of ND-0,25 ng/L and 0,083 – 0,82 ng/L, respectively. Interesting result was found, where HCB was detected in relatively high in water of Ciliwung river, Pluit Jakarta with concentration of 688,28 ng/L. HCB is a compound which is not only intentionally produced as pesticide, but also unintentionally produced from industrial by-product. Therefore, contamination of the river water may come from industrial processes which are located near sampling point. If compared with river water quality criteria of PP No.82 Tahun 2001, it results were below the standard of river water quality Class I. Keywords : organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), waters, Indonesia, industrial by-products.

Abstract

The environment and water quality status of the open waters of the rivers and lake including ground water surround DKI Jakarta was evaluated on the base of the data collected by local government of the environmental agency of DKI Jakarta (BPLHD) period of 2004. The result shows that water quality of those open waters has degraded due to the impact of the domestic and industrial waste that flowing through the rivers. The DO, total suspended solid (TSS), ammonia, organic matter, BOD and COD of the open waters in general have more than intemperate of the environmental standard of the water quality for drinking, fisheries, animal husbandry and industrial need. While the ground water has degraded due to the increasing of the Fe, Mn and detergent.  To eliminate and minimize the degradation of the water quality of the open waters and ground water surround Jakarta, strict regulation should be established following the regular monitoring of the whole area of the open and ground waters.  Katakunci : Kualitas Perairan Umum, Sungai, Situ, Air Tanah, DKI Jakarta.

Abstract

Hospital is playing an important role in serving people who need to get health. On the other hand its occurrence causes some problems as well. One of them is the infectious wastewaters which are potential to cause a dangerous effect for human life. A lot of hospitals in Indonesia do not have the proper wastewater treatment plant yet. The local hospital of County Timika has already had a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), but until now the capacity of the unit can not fulfil the required level of environmental standard yet. One of the problems is the technically improper treatment processes. To solve the problems, the WWTP must be redesigned and modifief by using a combination technique of anaerobik and aerobic biofilter treatment processes. The newly proposed design process of WWTP for the local hospital in TImika has already prepared to be applied. Keywords : Medical Wastewater Treatment Process, anerobic/aerobic biofilter

Abstract

Clean water supply is still a very difficult problem for small villages, especially in County Ende, NTT. Three villages, ie Detukeli, Ndetundora I and Ndetundora II, are the examples. The real problem is the settlement living in the area which do not have enough potential of water resources. There are some potential surface water resources, but they are located more than 3 km from the village settlement. One of the potential rivers is so separated by a big hill, that the people have to walk for a long distance to reach the clean water resource. To solve the problem, it is very important to develop a transmition piping, including the distribution net and a hidram water pumping system. To construct a complete water supply system needs a lot of investation. For only Village Detukeli as an example, it needs approximately almost 2 thousand million rupiahs.  Kata Kunci : Clean water supply, limited potential of water resources

Abstract

Evaluation of the water quality status at Abang Island Region was conducted by using the STORET and Canbera Similarity Indeks during Mei, June and October 2006. This analysis result shows that the water quality within this region was within the range of good to moderate. This condition indicats that the water quality status is still suitable to support the marine biotic life. During May, the water quality was good, but in June and October was decreased due to the increasing of the organic material transported by land surface run off driven by precipitation as response to the seasonal change.   Katakunci : Kualitas air, Pulau Abang, Indeks Storet, Indeks Similaritas Canbera.

Abstract

Domestic waste are known to be a potential pollutant due to its’ organic and inorganic content. It is also harmful for society for its pathogenic microorganism contents such as pathogenic bacteria, viruses, parasitic worms, parasitic protozoa, etc. The lack of domestic waste processing facilities is contributing to the increasing seriousness of this matter. One of the alternative ways to amend the problem is to process the waste individually or semi-communally by utilizing an aerobic-anaerobic biofilter process. Some of the advantage of utilizing this process is: easy maintenance, low operation cost, relatively lower sludge compared to the activated sludge  process, can remove nitrogen and phosphorus, relatively lower air supply requirement for aeration, applicable in processing waste water with large amount of BOD and it can also remove suspended solid (SS).  Results gained from experiments of the “Aerobic-Anaerobic Biofilter Combination” tool prototype, used for processing domestic waste showed that with a hydraulic retention time of 1 to 3 days and a Hydraulic   re-circulation ratio (HRR) of 1, is a highly efficient process which is: BOD 84.7% - 91%, COD 79.6%-95.3%, SS 94.1% - 95%, Ammonia (NH4-N) 89.3%-89.8%, Detergent (MBAS) 83% - 87% and phosphate (PO4) 44,4% - 47.3%. Kata kunci : Air limbah domestik, patogen, parasit, biofilter, anaerob, aerob.

Abstract

The need of water for human life is very high, especially to meet a demand of water supply, such as for drinking water, washing, taking a bath, and etc. Unfortunately, the availability of surface water at an area is sometimes not enough to comply with a request of pure water, as happened in the Sukodono area. Hence, to avoid the problem, we focus at the ground water sources as alternative water supply. In this paper will be discussed exploration of ground water that is accomplished with imaging resistivity technology to find out characteristic and condition of ground water in Sukodono, Pacitan district, EastJavaProvince. Based on the result of survey in field and interpretation, the existence of aquifer in Sukodono area is occupied between 5 – 40 meter depth. Key words : ground water, imaging resistivity, desa Sukodono
