Abstract

Activated carbon is substance or material which is often used in processing of drinking water to eliminate such's pollutant for example : organic matter, odors, ammonia, detergent, phenol compound, organic compound of methane derivates, and others substances, which cannot be eliminated by usual processing like coagulation, flocculation, precipitation and filtration. The processing of drinking water using Powder Activated Carbon (PAC), influenced by  water flow rate, concentration of pollutant to be eliminated, injection rate of activated carbon, contact time as well as influenced by type of process for example single stage operation or multi stage operation either through cross current operation or with countercurrent operation. Despitefully is also influenced by nature of activated carbon it's self. Processing of drinking water using powder activated carbon very compatible and economic for processing in a state of emergency for example at the time of dry season where quality of water become worse, because its can be conducted as according to existing equipments without making special equipments.Kata Kunci : Pengolahan, air minum, karbon aktif bubuk.

Abstract

Water resource is one of the most important resources for life and development. In Indonesia, the increasing population and development results the increased demand of water. On the other hand, water resource availability has become limited and has been at critical level for several locations. Around 65% Indonesian population (~ 125 Million people) live in Java island which is only 7% of total Indonesia continental area. The decrease of water resource is caused by some factors, namely pollution, deforestation, heavy agricultural activities, and the change of the function of  catchment area. This paper will give some brief description how water resource in Indonesia distributes and what the appropriate technologies have been used for the treatment of low quality of water in order to fulfill the human life needs.  Keywords: water resource, pollution, climate change, health impact.

Abstract

The environment and water quality status of the open waters of the rivers and lake including ground water surround DKI Jakarta was evaluated on the base of the data collected by local government of the environmental agency of DKI Jakarta (BPLHD) period of 2004. The result shows that water quality of those open waters has degraded due to the impact of the domestic and industrial waste that flowing through the rivers. The DO, total suspended solid (TSS), ammonia, organic matter, BOD and COD of the open waters in general have more than intemperate of the environmental standard of the water quality for drinking, fisheries, animal husbandry and industrial need. While the ground water has degraded due to the increasing of the Fe, Mn and detergent.  To eliminate and minimize the degradation of the water quality of the open waters and ground water surround Jakarta, strict regulation should be established following the regular monitoring of the whole area of the open and ground waters.  Katakunci : Kualitas Perairan Umum, Sungai, Situ, Air Tanah, DKI Jakarta.

Abstract

An autotrophic denitrification system was developed for treatment wastewater from steel industry. The aim was to evaluate the kinetics and capability of the system in reducing nitrate content in such industrial wastewater. The experiments were conducted in batch suspension and continuous runs. The denitrification kinetics in suspension runs obeys first order reaction with the rate constant k1 and k2 were determined to be 0.014 and 0.004 g-N/m3.d, respectively. The continuous runs used a column packed with mixture of granular sulfur and limestone. The microbes of Thiobacillus denitrificans were attached on the surface of granular sulfur in the form of biofilm. The biofilm thickness was investigated to be approximately 40 μm. The denitrification kinetics in the packed column obeys half-order reaction with the rate constant k of 0.172 g-N1/2.m1/2/(kg-S.d). The lower denitrification extent of industrial wastewater compared with the synthetic wastewater might be due to the lack of alkalinity. Keywords: Autotrophic denitrification, sulfur, packed column, thiobacillus denitrificans.

Abstract

Pangkep Island consist of 117 Island, situated in Southwest Makasar City, South Sulawesi. These islands  supply  fish and other marine commodity  to the people who lives in nearby town. Unfortunately, they always lack of water, especially at the long dry season.  Usually at rainy season, they collect water from the roof tile  to  storage tank. But at the long dry season the reserve water in not enough to fulfill daily needs. So it is necessary to applied some technology to create fresh water in some island.  One of Island that has chosen as a pilot project is Pandangan Island. Pandangan Island can be achieved from Pangkep City only five hours using tradisional ship. The population around 1200 people and most of them are fisherman. At the long dry season they always lack of fresh water. The reverse osmosis system, capacity 10 m3/day, has been chosen as technology to overcome water problem in Pandangan Island. For remote area, it is assume only 5 liter/day/capita is enough, so the system could fulfill up to 2000 people. The equipment installed in the central Island, using shallow well as a intake water. The efficiency salt reduction is 95 – 98% and recovery ratio 15 – 35%.  The establishment of committee is important to manage operasional of reverse osmosis system. Committee usually consist of 2 technical person and 1 management person, and they come from local people and well train, beside they also should have ability to sell the product water to surrounding island with competitive price.   It’s need big effort to build sea water treatment in each island, so the priority should be determined, especially for crowded, populated and remote island such as Pandangan. Kata Kunci : Air bersih, kelembagaan, pengolahan air laut.

Abstract

A preliminary assessment of an application of sewerage system with Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) and Down flow Hanging Sponge (DHS) technology was conducted inNorth Bogor. The Problem which often emerge in management of domestic wastewater is the limited land area and fund to built and operate a wastewater treatment facility. To overcome such problem, it is needed to develop a cheap wastewater treatment technology with high efficiency, easy to operate and also should be compact. The combination technology of UASB and DHS is proposed as an economic wastewater treatment which  easy to handling. Therefore, to make sure that the technology is feasible or not to be built inNorth Bogor, there is need the preliminary assessment. The assessment was conducted through a survey of technical and social economic aspect. The results show that sewerage system using UASB and DHS technology is feasible. Key word: domestic wastewater, upflow anaerobik sludge blanket, downflow hanging sponge, preliminary assessment.

Abstract

Recently, the treatment process of waste water contains organic pollutant which used in Indonesia especially in Jakarta is activated sludge process. The problem is its treated water quality which frequently does not yet fulfilled to effluent standard of wastewater. Some affecting factors  are hydraulic retention time (HRT) too short, the fluctuation of wastewater flow rate, unfavorable function of aeration process and also which do not less important is operational mistake caused by insufficient knowledge of operator. To overcome the mentioned problems it is needed technological innovation to increase efficiency of wastewater treatment process especially activated sludge process. This paper describes the study of domestic waste water treatment  using activated sludge process which is filled with bioball plastic media for attaching microorganism to increase efficiency and  keep stability of process. Result of the study shows that within 6 hours hydraulic retention time (HRT), the removal efficiency of COD, BOD, Ammonia and Total Suspended Solids (TSS) were 78.42%, 79.41%, 61.41%, and 82.06% respectively. The most effective of sludge circulation ratio is R=0,5Q. In sludge circulation ratio R= 0,5Q, the removal efficiency of COD, BOD, organic loading coming into bioreactor, the lower  removal efficiency. In organic loading (BOD loading) 0.3 - 1.0 kgBOD/m3.day, the removal efficiency of BOD was 80 - 85 %.  Kata kunci : Air limbah domestik, lumpur aktif, bioball, aerob.

Abstract

Water supply for the domestics use of Central Java Province has been experiencing problems and challenging. With population of 35 million or 16% of Indonesia, it place the province as the third in national population. It have consequently, water need in the province is as such for use of domestics, irrigation/agriculture, industry, etc. Several counties within the province has experiencing water shortage. Particularly during dry season, defisits is inclining that results water use conflicts. Furthermore, conflicts occur not only in counties with water shortage but also in county with sufficient water supply. Conflict is generally triggered by weak management and allocation. This is a result of unlimited territorial sovereighnity of water resources and uncertainty of water rights. Unlimited territorial sovereighnity of water resource contain exclusive right to utilize tap water within the territorial right, in way that the territory hold the sole right to exploit the resource without compensation to neighbouring territory. Hence, water balance should be investigated better and comprehensively. Kata kunci: keseimbangan air, konflik, sumber daya air, Jawa Tengah.

Abstract

According to Cook, drainage basin characteristics factor yielding high surface stream are 1. Relief 2. Infiltration 3. Landuse, and 4. Drainage density. These physical parameter is use to determine runoff coefficient of catchment area, with application of Geographical Information System (GIS) application on Ciliwung catcment area above Depok. Steps to analyse of runoff coefficient are scoring of each classification of relief, infiltration, landuse and drainage density, and then all of the four maps which have score are overlay to become a map of unit land. Runoff coefficient hereinafter is calculated and found out that runoff coefficient of Ciliwung catchment area is 0, 58.   Katakunci : GIS, SIG, metode Cook, metode Bridge Branch, runoff coeffisient, catchment area, DAS, Ciliwung, relief, infiltration, landuse, drainage density, informasi, peta tematik.
