Abstract

Until now, the drinking water companies in Indonesia still use chlorine for disinfection processes. In addition, the chlorine also uses for removal Fe, Mn and ammonia. If the raw water contains high concentration of ammonia, chlorine will react with ammonia form chloramines which have lower strength of disinfection power. The higher concentration of ammonia in raw water caused the higher consumption of chlorine. The reaction of chlorine with certain organic compounds as humic substances will to produce chloro-organo compounds like chlorophenols which become serious problems to day because trihalomethane and also chlorophenols compounds are carcinogenic substances. To overcome the problems one of alternative is using the combination of biofiltration and ultrafiltration to process the drinking water. Biofltrations process is treatment of raw water biologically using fixed bed biofilter reactor witch filled with honeycomb plastic supporting media for removal Fe, Mn, ammonia detergent, and also organic substances. Ultrafiltration (UF) is filtration process using hollow fiber membranes that have effective pore sizes of 0.1 – 0.01 µm. The ultrafiltration units are capable of separating some large molecular weight dissolved organics, colloids, macromolecules and suspended solids from raw water. The ultrafiltration process is designed to remove colloidalized particles in the range from 0.1-0.01µm.By combining the biofiltration and ultrafiltration processes, hence will be got technological alternative of drinking water process which capable to degrade an organic matter, ammonia, detergent and can remove the colloidal or suspended matter effectively without chemicals instead of conventional process. Kata Kunci : Pengolahan Air Minum, Biofiltrasi, Membran, Ultrafiltrasi, Pilot Plant

Abstract

Water is very important need for our live. The lack of water, in term of quqnttity quality would triger serious social & health problems. The requirements for qualified water including element of phisical, chemical & bacteriological. One of chemical parameter in wateris the amount of Ca+2 & Mg+2, namely of hardnes. Since it is harmfull for human health hardness both in industrial and household consumption should be avoided. To cope the problem, there is an exact solution by processing the water with ion exchange filtration. The instalation could be used to process the water from deep well & ordinary well on the lime mountains which generally has a high hardness into qualified drinkable water.                                              Kata Kunci : Air minum, Kapur, Kesadahan, Pengolahan, Penukar ion.

Abstract

Clean water supply is still a very difficult problem for small villages, especially in County Ende, NTT. Three villages, ie Detukeli, Ndetundora I and Ndetundora II, are the examples. The real problem is the settlement living in the area which do not have enough potential of water resources. There are some potential surface water resources, but they are located more than 3 km from the village settlement. One of the potential rivers is so separated by a big hill, that the people have to walk for a long distance to reach the clean water resource. To solve the problem, it is very important to develop a transmition piping, including the distribution net and a hidram water pumping system. To construct a complete water supply system needs a lot of investation. For only Village Detukeli as an example, it needs approximately almost 2 thousand million rupiahs.  Kata Kunci : Clean water supply, limited potential of water resources

Waduk Rio – Rio is an artificial ponds located in East Jakarta. Current condition of the waduk rio - rio is not maintained, its visible from outlet of the ponds foaming indicates pollution. Therefore, monitoring the quality of the ponds which describes the condition of good quality ponds in physics, chemistry, and microbiology. The results of the monitoring and analysis data using the pollution index, it can be seen that the pollution level of Waduk Rio - Rio in the first period (dry season) classified as moderate polluted by pollution index value of 5.542. While in the second period (transitional season), the value of the pollution index at 11.069 and classified as heavy polluted. The pollution sources of Waduk Rio - Rio is domestic wastewater which comes from community activities around the ponds. It can be seen from the high biological parameters such as Fecal Coli and Coliform. In order to reduce the level of pollution in the Waduk Rio - Rio, the domestic wastewater discharged into the ponds needs to be processed first. One of the domestic wastewater treatment technology is a biofilter Anaerobic - Aerobic. Keywords : Pollution Indeks, Water Quality Indeks, Biofilter Anaerob – Aerob

Abstract

Industrial sector is the second priority in development of Tanjungpinang city. The mining industry, processing industry, transport and food are thriving . People has the opinion that a small industry is an industry that does not threaten the environment, so that the small-scale industrial waste are sometimes were forgotten due to it is not significant, and not too dangerous, whereas the B3 waste contained in domestic waste can cause disturbance of marine life and the ecosystem this will have potential to destroy the ecosystem. This study aims to explain the impact of B3 and domestic waste pollution to the environment, especially marine waters to marine life, and feedback to the provincial government for the formulation strategy of the management of the Tanjungpinang waters environment. For the analysis, 10 water samples and 15 aquatic biota was taken at different locations. While the quantitative analysis of pollutants carried by observing a population of the elements of hazardous substances from sediment samples, water and biota network. XRF techniques (X-Ray Fluorescence) and AAS (Atomic Absorbance Spectroscopy) used for the analysis content of the samples. The pollution index determined by compare metal concentration ratio the polluted areas with the standard metal concentration areas that were not polluted. The results show that the coastal water of tanjungpinang have been contaminated by heavy metals (As, Cd, Cu , Pb, Zn, and Ni) with pollution index 2.91 - 5.96. The pollutant Metals were came from the human activities in the shipbuilding industry usually Pb and Zn which is the main component of the paint. While heavy metals such as arsenic (As), Cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu) probably derived from bauxite mining activity, the high levels of nitrate is a sign of agricultural activities that use fertilizers. Unfortunately the rest of it discharged into the coastal waters of Tanjungpinang city, and there is also pollution of E-coli from human waste. Biota that live in the waters of Tanjungpinang have been contaminated by heavy metals (Hg, Zn, and Ar) by bioaccumulation. The related activity of the pollutant was the bauxite processing industry in the past. Heavy metal pollution is highest in Kijing (Pilsbryoconcha exillis) which includes : Hg, Cr, As, Cu, Zn, Ni, and the dimersal fish that have limited movement. Feedback given is that provincial governments do mangrove reforestation along the coast and estuaries, and create marine conservation areas determination of areas (KKLD) in the strait Dompak water. Key Words : heavy metals, marine life, coastal water of tanjungpinang, mangrove

Abstract

Organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) in waters from five sampling point in Jabodetabek area have been determined using HRGC-HRMS. A total of 21 OCPs have been analyzed, however only few of OCPs were detected. Among HCH isomers, only -HCH and lindane (-HCH) were detected with concentration in the range of ND-0,25 ng/L and 0,083 – 0,82 ng/L, respectively. Interesting result was found, where HCB was detected in relatively high in water of Ciliwung river, Pluit Jakarta with concentration of 688,28 ng/L. HCB is a compound which is not only intentionally produced as pesticide, but also unintentionally produced from industrial by-product. Therefore, contamination of the river water may come from industrial processes which are located near sampling point. If compared with river water quality criteria of PP No.82 Tahun 2001, it results were below the standard of river water quality Class I. Keywords : organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), waters, Indonesia, industrial by-products.

Abstract

Techno Park regional development in order to increase regional competitiveness based on innovation and knowledge (konwledge based economy) requires infrastructure that can meet basic human needs, such as drinking water supply for the community. Techno Park region Pelalawan, Riau province located in the peat so that most of the water source is brownish and contains peat. While surface water sources such as rivers Kampar located far from the region. Therefore, to overcome the problems of water supply for the people who will live in the region need to be prepared water supply planning. Early stages of development is focused on the areas of education and research zone so that planning for water supply will also be prioritized in both these zones. Has calculated the drinking water needs based on projected population and  water demand standard in these locations. Planning of water treatment plant will conduct  in  5 stages yearly so that development is more economic with design capacity of 5 l / sec in 2033. Alternative sources of raw water are from Kampar river or groundwater that is used if transmission pipeline from the Kapuas river has not ben constructed. Technology of drinking water treatment with ultrafiltration processes that are environmentally friendly will be applied to meet the water needs of society. Transmission pipelines is planned of 15 inches diameter laying in parallel with lane highway from Kampar River ( location intake BPAB ) to the water treatment plant in the education zone . Keywords : Techno park region, water supply planning, ultrafiltrasi, peat area.
