Abstract

Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) treatment systems can be broadly categorised as either active or passive systems, which differ according to their ability to handle Acidity, flow rate and Acidity Load of the influent AMD.  Most passive and active systems utilise aggregate carbonate to neutralise the pH and encourage precipitation of metals as hydroxides or sulphide minerals.  In addition, passive treatment systems often use organic matter to provide alkalinity and create reducing conditions which favour the precipitation of metal sulphides.Active treatment systems can be engineered to accommodate essentially any acidity, flow rate and acidity load. Active treatment of AMD can be achieved using fixed plants or portable equipment for in-situ treatment. Passive treatment systems are almost invariably used for post closure treatment scenarios, and are best suited to AMD with low Acidity and low flow rates. The key factors in selection and design of active and passive AMD treatment systems are water chemistry including pH, metals, sulphate levels and redox state and flow rate of influent AMD, and the objectives of AMD treatment. Other important factors include capital and operating costs, availability of suitable treatment reagents or materials and sludge management issues. Keywords: Acid Mine Drainage, Active Treatment, Passive Treatment, Coal Mining.

Abstract

Cipinang River is one of the thirteen (13) rivers flowing in Jakarta. In the area along the river, there are a variety of activities such as industrial activities, residential, shopping malls and hospitals. These activities each day issued wastewater into the river, so that the physical condition of the river is getting worse. To find out how much pollution in Cipinang river, we analyze the measurement data from Jakarta BPLHD, especially parameters such as BOD, COD, phosphates, detergents, organic matter and bacteria coli. The analysis showed that the pollution in the river downstream Cipinang looks very high, this indicator shows that the pollution comes from industrial waste and domestic waste from households, offices and shops. Some efforts to reduce pollution is to build domestic wastewater treatment both individual and communal. Supervision and decisive action must be taken by the government of Jakarta for industries which dispose of waste water without treatment as well as granting permission to discharge liquid waste (IPLC) for industrial tightened. Keywords: Cipinang river, organic parameters, phosphat, detergent, coli bactery, industry pollution and domestic pollution

Abstract

Subsurface water resource is a natural resource that is essential for life, and therefore must be preserved so that its presence can be used in a sustainable manner. Subsurface water sources should be managed in an integrated manner based on ground water basin that can be used optimally. For the preservation of groundwater using artificial recharge technology (shallow recharge wells, Deep recharge wells and reservoir recharge). The purpose of this study was to assess the ability of absorption of artificial recharge in the shallow, medium and deep aquifer. Absorption capability will be tested by direct measurements in the field by filling water into shallow recharge wells, deep recharge wells and reservoirs recharge in the catchment area. The more water that can be absorbed by means of artificial recharge capabilities can work well. From the results of research conducted can be seen that each has its own advantages and can be implemented in accordance with the existing field conditions. Keywords: Subsurface water, aquifer, Permeability, Artificial Feed

Abstract

The total population Bontang in 2014 is around 187,346 peoples. With the level of domestic water demand of 110 liters /person/day, the water needs of the city for at least Bontang 238.52 liters/sec. Currently for the needs of the community water supply received from the local water company with a capacity of 80 liters/sec, and It will be developed further to 250 liters/second in 2015. There are two big industries that need huge of water, namely LNG and Fertilizers Factory.  Factory of East Kalimantan (PKT) need additional water supply around 1000 m3/h or (166.67 liters/sec) with the specifications for the Water Industry   and 200 m3/h will be used to supply the needs of water for 21 818 inhabitants. Bontang city water source can be derived from groundwater, rivers, and rain water storage (reservoirs of water). In recent decades Bontang relied upon groundwater for water supply industry and some communities, the rest use river water and rain water tandah. With a very heavy rainfall (> 2500 mm / year), then the making of ponds in large quantities can help to reserve water in the future. For the purposes of future water supplies, it would require an asessment of all potential water resources utilization and planning for the use of adapted to the urban development plan. Water recycling of domestic waste is also a potential source of fresh water in the future, especially for industrial use. The drainage system needs to be directed at a large holding pond located in a low area, before going into the sea. The rain that fell in the city drained and collected would be of potential if utilized. In short-term utilization of water of the Bontang river is very of potential, given its location in the city center and is one of the many watersheds in Bontang, causing floods in the rainy season. Control and management of water is needed to support the use of river water. Keywords: Water resources, Water Demand, Water Supply, and Water Balance

Abstract

PT. Shei Tai Industrial, is one of the industries that produce motor vehicle spare parts such as the engine block. With these production activities, PT. Shei Tai Industrial will result in the production of domestic waste and waste that contains oil and chemicals (solvents) with a high enough concentration. The high levels of pollutant waste PT. Shei Tai Industrial, resulting in the waste industry cannot be accepted directly into the WWTP area, so PT. Shei Tai Industrial obliged to make a pre-treatment unit prior to the WWTP effluent channel region. For pre-treatment planning unit, PT. Shei Tai Industrial has teamed up with researchers from the Center for Environmental Technology to make planning pre-treatment unit design. This unit is planned by using physical-chemical process technology. Keywords: Waste Industry, Design of wastewater pre-treatment.

Abstract

This paper describes some of the general condition of the oceanographic parameters in the Strait Matak, Anambas Archipelago. The data flow is obtained by direct measurement by using a current meter types RCM-7. Simulation models using Mike 21. Mike flow pattern is divided into two seasons, namely west season (January) and the east season (August) and flow patterns ahead of the tide when the season is generally moving west to wards the south, it demonstrates the role of strong tidal influence the movement of waterin the study area. Flow velocity in the strait just before the tide on the west season reaches 1m/s.  Flow patterns at high tide on the west season looks still moving toward sthe south. The maximum flow velocity in the strait when the tide reaches 0.32 m/s, while the average speed in the area of the model is 0.12 m/s. Low tide towards the current pattern is still moving towards the south, it reinforces the notion that in addition to tidal windsare also very significant role in moving the flow, in this case that the current is moving toward the south. Flow velocity just before low tide reaches 0.85 m/s. Flow patterns at low tide shows the differences in the three previous conditions, the current in the strait to move out to the north toward the South China Sea. In condition slow tide, the tida lmore dominantly than the wind, this proved to even though the wind toward the south, the currents inthestraitis moving toward snorth along the tidal flow leading to the South China Sea. Flow velocity is quite varied location of modeling; flow velocity at low tide reaches 0.5m/s, with the average 0.15 m/s. Keywords: current and direction, wind, tide, model.

Abstract

Bengkalis district has a population of 690,366 people spread in the area of 11,481.77 Km2. Natural resources potencial in this area is quite large, so that local Government has a high commitment to meet the demand of local food, and even regional. To implement this goal, local government will build irrigation systems to irrigate 1,500 ha of rice field land which decrease of water in dry season. However, there are some constraints experienced are : the river for irrigation water source is located near the beach, so it is influenced by tidal sea water. Besides, the peat moss water contains a high organic matter and acid. To solve this problem, we need to treat the river water for irrigation, so that its quality meets the requirement for agriculture. While tidal conditions can be set with the pumping time. From the results of the research in the laboratory showed that the river water pH = 4 while the river water quality standard for the rice field is the appropriate 5 - 9 mg/l. Therefore, the required water treatment to raise pH to comply with the standard quality of water for agriculture. Research conducted in the village Langkat, district Siak Kecil. This activity includes laboratory research, design creation tool to increase pH river water irrigation, tools development, up to the trials and monitoring. Keywords : Peningkatan Kualitas Air, Irigasi Persawahan, Kontrol pH

Abstract

Bursts of mud in Sidoarjo has caused changes in environmental quality around the bursts area. Observation in that area indicate there have been changes in air quality and odor caused by mud spurt. In addition, changes in the geological structure of land in the area around the mud spurt, has resulted some water spurt phenomenon that came from the well pump belong to some residensts in that area. This water spurt phenomenon is followed by the change of water quality which was to be used for the needs of daily living, now in some villages in the area around the mud bursts can no longer be used. To find out some parameters of water quality that arises from the some well pumps that produce big water spurt, we need to performed water quality monitoring using multiprobe digital sensors that are able to measure several parameters at once. This paper presents the measurement data of water quality in some well pumps that produce big water spurts with the YSI600R digital sensor. Keywords : Perubahan kualitas lingkungan, semburan lumpur Sidoarjo, pemantuan kualitas air, sumber bubble, sumur pompa, sumur bor, separasi air dan gas, multi probe digital sensor

Abstract

Fish processing industries in Muncar-Banyuwangi have increased the welfare of the people there and made this area known as the major fish producer in Indonesia. More than 50% of its production has been exported to many countries and the rest has fulfilled domestic need. Although fish processing industry has developed quickly, its industrial pollution effect hasn’t been handled well so that it polluted the surrounding envionment especially water surface. It happened because of using water for industrial need reached 17.883,2 m3 /day and almost all industries haven’t provided a good wastewater installalion so that the environment couldn’t handle and neutrilize the wastes. This paper explains condition of fish processing industries and potential load of the wastewater produced by them. Keywords : Industri Pengolahan Ikan, Limbah Cair Industri, Pencemaran Lingkungan, Informasi.
