Abstract

Background: Most women in prison are experiencing inadequate energy and macronutrient intake which may affect their nutritional and health status. Objective: To determine the relationship between the level of energy sufficiency and macro nutrient with nutritional status of women. Method : Cross-sectional data were collected from 100 women prisoner aged 19-45 years old from a major prison in Tangerang City of Indonesia. Weight and height were measured with standard weighing scale and microtoise, respectively and body mass index (BMI) was produced. The prisoner’s intakes were measured by three days 24 hour food recalls. Others observed variables were health seeking behaviour (HSB) and infectious disease history (IDH) which assessed by structured interview questionnaire. Spearman's Rank Test was performed to answer the research questions. Result: There was a positive and weak relationship between energy sufficiency level and nutritional status (p = 0,030), protein adequacy level with nutritional status (p = 0,015), fat sufficiency level with nutritional status (p = 0,034) and carbohydrate sufficiency level with nutritional status p = 0.043). Conclusion: Level of energy and macronutrient intake associate with prison women’s nutritional status.  Keywords: energy sufficiency level and macro nutrient, nutritional status, women

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to explore the relationship between nutrient intakes, physical activity and percentage of body fat in a group of adolescents. This cross-sectional study was carried out with 62 adolescents aged 13 to 14 years old; 34 girls (54,8%) and 28 boys (45,2%). Energy, macronutrients and vitamin D intake were assessed by two non-consecutive-24 hour food recalls. Calcium intake was assessed by a semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire (SQ-FFQ), physical activity was assessed by Physical Activity Level (PAL) 2 x 24 hours and percentage of body fat was measured by bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). BIA measurements were taken at least 2 hours after meals. The mean age was 13,2 ± 0,4 years. Mean percentage body fat was 22,2 + 5,9 %. In bivariate analysis, negative correlations were found between calcium intake (p= 0,002), fiber intake (p=0,009), physical activity (p= 0,016) and body fat. In multivariate analysis, fiber intake showed a negative correlation (β = -8,397, p = 0,001) and carbohydrate intake (β = 13,053, p = 0,003) showed a positive correlation with body fat, adjusted by age and sex. In conclusion, carbohydrate intake has a positive relationship with body fat and fiber intake has a negative relationship with body fat in adolescents. Keywords : body fat, adolescents, carbohydrate intake

Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze the differences in nutrient intake based on region characteristics in children under-five, in health centers, Kabupaten Tangerang. We used primary data such as; eating habits (nutrient intake), and characteristics of the region with the cross-sectional approach. The total of subject is about 48 children with using voluntary sampling technique. Independent sample t-test and Mann Whitney (non-parametric) were applied to answer the research questions. Children aged 6-23 months and 24-48 months were female (53.3%) and male (55.6%). Children aged 6-23 months living in rural areas (76.7%), their parents as Fishermen and Farmers (40.0%), the average of household expenditure is about < Rp.2.649.086 (82.8%). Children aged 24-48 months living in urban areas (72.2%), their parents as laborers (72.2%), the average household expenditure is about <Rp.2.649.086 (72.2%). There are differences between energy, carbohydrate, protein, and fat intake based on the level of household expenditure in the group of children aged 6-23 months (p<0.05), but the study failed to find in the age group 24-48 months (p≥0. 05). Education programs need to be intensified for MPASI local (6-24bulan), to increase area income. Keywords : macronutrient intake, region characteristics, children underfive

Abstract

Obesity is a serious problem in adolescence because it will continue until adulthood. There is a tendency of Indonesia children often consume energy-densed food which is low quality of food choices. This study aims to analyze differences in diversity of food consumption and nutrient density in obese and non obese adolescents. Cross sectional design was used in this study which used 97 adolescent respondents in West Jakarta Junior High School. The method used the nutritional status is the percent of body fat using Bioelectrical Impedance Analysisis (BIA), Individual Dietary Diversity Score (IDDS) to measure food diversity and Nutrient Density using a 2x24 hour Recall. The results showed that there was no difference of food consumption diversity and protein density in both groups with p value = 0,791 and p = 0,366 (p <0,005). While there is a real difference between the energy density of both groups with p = 0.000 (p <0.005). It means that energy density is related to obesity in adolescents. Therefore, good food choice should be disseminated to students and parents in order to meet the nutritional needs of that age. Keywords: obesity, nutrition of adolescents, food diversity, nutrient density

Abstract

Food and nutrition are related because the nutritional status of an individual is influenced by the food consumed. A balanced nutritional intake is required to achieve optimal health and prevention of non-communicable diseases. In adulthood the age will change many changes both physical changes and changes in psychology and social. Riskesdas 2010 results show that 21.7% of Indonesian adults are overweight (including obese), and women have a higher prevalence (26.9%) than males (16.3%) (Balitbangkes 2010). The purpose of this research is to analyze the difference of nutrient intake based on nutritional status of adult woman. The type of this study was observational with cross sectional study design with total subjects of 33 people (total sampling). Analysis with independent t-test showed that there were significant differences in protein intake (p Value 0.043) and vitamin B1 intake (p Value 0.049) based on nutritional status of respondents. Intake of nutrients need to be adjusted with balanced nutrition so that the need for nutritional education gradually so as to meet the adequacy of nutrients. Keywords: nutritional intake, nutritional status, adult women
