Abstract

This study examines legal perspectives on da'wah in the digital era, where nearly everyone has access to advanced communication tools. In today's digital age, spreading Islamic teachings as a form of da'wah has become significantly easier, particularly through the use of digital platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, and other social media channels. These platforms offer new opportunities for da'wah by allowing content to be disseminated quickly and widely. One common method is through video sharing, which enables viewers to watch religious messages in a visual format, making the delivery more engaging and accessible. Additionally, written content distributed online, such as articles or posts, can also serve as effective tools in delivering Islamic messages. From a legal and religious standpoint, utilizing these digital mediums for da'wah is permissible, as long as the content aligns with Islamic values and serves the purpose of guiding others towards goodness and truth. This new form of digital da'wah can be seen as a bridge between traditional Islamic preaching and modern technology, making religious messages more relevant and reachable to contemporary audiences across diverse backgrounds.

Abstract

The term da'wah has long been used and spoken widely among the public. It originates from the command of Allah, found in both the Qur’an and the hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad. Commonly paired with the word "Islam" to become Islamic da'wah, the term itself carries a broad and general meaning. It can be applied not only within the context of Islam or other religions but also in reference to good or bad matters. The da'wah system is composed of several subsystems, which are smaller components forming the overall structure. These subsystems are essentially the core elements of da'wah itself: the da’i (preacher), mad’u (the target or audience), maddah (da'wah content), wasilah (media), thariqah (method), and atsar (impact or effect of da'wah). These subsystems are interrelated, and the absence of even one of them can disrupt the achievement of da'wah objectives. Da'wah can be understood as an input-output system, an open system, and a feedback system. First, as an input-output system, da'wah transforms various components (inputs) into outcomes that reflect Islamic values (outputs). The quality of the da’i plays a crucial role in this transformation process, though the final success ultimately depends on the guidance (hidayah) from Allah SWT.

Abstract

This article examines the epistemological sources and methodological approaches in the development of da'wah theory as a scientific discipline. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the study identifies three main epistemological sources: *istinbath* (deriving knowledge from the Qur’an and Hadith), *iqtibas* (adapting concepts from religious texts and social sciences), and *istiqra* (inductive reasoning through observation and field research). The development of da'wah science is not limited to religious texts but also relies on supporting disciplines such as communication, sociology, psychology, management, and counseling. These fields help strengthen both the delivery and substance of da'wah messages, making them more relevant and impactful in modern contexts, including in the digital era. The article also outlines six key da'wah approaches: cultural, social, educational, political, economic, and psychological. Each approach emphasizes a different dimension of audience engagement, such as cultural sensitivity, educational level, economic conditions, and emotional well-being. These approaches align with the practical methodologies of da'wah, including *bil hikmah* (wisdom), *mau’idzah hasanah* (good advice), and *mujadalah* (dialogue), as derived from Qur’anic principles. In conclusion, da'wah science continues to grow by integrating traditional Islamic sources with contemporary knowledge. This synergy strengthens its academic foundation and practical application, making it a dynamic tool for societal guidance. In conclusion, the development of da'wah theory is a dynamic process that requires contributions from both classical Islamic sources and contemporary disciplines. This integrative model ensures that da'wah remains relevant, effective, and responsive to the challenges of modern society. The study suggests that by adopting multidisciplinary approaches and grounding its theory in both revelation and empirical evidence, da'wah science can continue to evolve as a robust academic field that supports the broader mission of Islam in guiding humanity.
