Abstract

This research aims to analyze Indonesia's diplomacy as a majority Muslim democratic country in responding to human rights violations in Myanmar. The conflict in Myanmar, particularly concerning the treatment of the Muslim Rohingya minority, has raised international concerns. As a country with the largest Muslim population in the world and a strong democratic tradition, Indonesia plays a crucial role in responding to this situation. The research methodology employed in this study is the analysis of Indonesia's foreign policy towards Myanmar and human rights violations in that country. Data were obtained through document studies, including official government statements, political speeches, and relevant news sources. The research findings indicate that Indonesia has taken several steps in responding to human rights violations in Myanmar. The Indonesian government consistently condemns the acts of violence and human rights abuses occurring in Myanmar, including the treatment of the Rohingya. Indonesia has also utilized international forums, such as the United Nations (UN) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), to advocate for human rights in Myanmar. However, this research also reveals some challenges faced by Indonesia in conducting diplomacy related to Myanmar. The limited influence of Indonesia over the Myanmar government and disagreements among ASEAN member states pose constraints on Indonesia's efforts to respond to human rights violations in its neighboring country. In conclusion, Indonesia's diplomacy as a majority Muslim democratic country in responding to human rights violations in Myanmar has resulted in several constructive steps. However, the challenges encountered indicate that Indonesia's efforts still need improvement.

Abstract

At the inauguration of Time Capsule in Merauke, Mrs, Iriana have carried a Papuan child on her back while stepping on the place where all hopes and dream of Indonesia children kept until 2085 to be opened. She then obtained many compliment from people across the islands of Indonesia. People looked it as a form of empathy for Papuan’s problems.Actually, what Mrs. Iriana did was political communication through practice of cultural representation. Her performation on that event was then framed as a cultural appreciation for Papuan culture and also become message for Papuan that she understand and have big empathy for Papuan problem. Yet, as we see in this Paper, I problematize the claim about this frame through theory of Eating the Other from Bellhook.Eating the Other as negative model of dominative culture adopting sub-ordinate culture. By adopting element of sub-ordinate culture, the dominant can gain control to reproduce meaning of cultural codes and political representation at the politic stage. The control is by absorbing the sub-ordinate culture (assimilation)  and removal subject of culture sub-ordinate in the public area. In this case, eating the other is operationalized through cultural appropriation as an oppositional form of cultural appreciation.Cultural appropriation can be detected when someone who practice of cultural representation of other’s culture does bias of knowledge, values and socio-historical context where this culture come from. By this false practice of cultural representation, someone falls into an imaging merely without any substance. Even, it can be seen as humiliate for people who have that culture. In the other words, this is a bad practical of political representation at the politic stage and this is fatal for political communication as a whole. My conclusion in this paper is what Mrs. Iriana did at the event is felt into cultural appropriation because it was only for merely imaging in front the people. The main reason is because her practice of cultural representation did not reflect her real act for relief the suffer of Papuan Mothers who live under poverty, less healthy service, double burden and another kind of violence that is faced in everyday of their life. This argument is affirmed by what Jokowi her husband as president have bad track record of human rights issue in Papua. Keyword : Eating the Other, Practice of Cultural Representation, Cultural Appropriation, Political Representation, Mrs. Iriana,  Papuan Mothers

Abstract

Fathu Makkah is a historical record of the glory of the Prophet Muhammad who proved the conquest without blood. Fathu Mecca is an authentic proof that general forgiveness or amnesty can be given to the people despite how wrong they were in the past. General Amnesty at the time of Fathu Mecca was proven when not a single blood was shed and unconditional forgiveness was given by the Prophet. The current general amnesty carried out by the international community is no more than a political decision wrapped in rhetoric of peace and humanity. Meanwhile, the Prophet's decision to amnesty was purely due to his humanity and love for peace. There are several points that can be studied at the Fathu Makkah amnesty, namely: Peace Diplomacy Before the Fathu Mecca Incident, Unconditional Forgiveness, Amnesty Fathu Makkah is Better than Amnesty International that Has Been There, The Humanism Attitude of the Prophet in the Fathu Mecca Amnesty

Abstract

Abstract Western Sahara has been a contested area between Morocco and a liberation movement called the Polisario Front for decades. Post 2020, there are growing numbers of countries who recognize, and are in favor of Moroccan efforts to maintain sovereignty, in addition to territorial integrity over the Western Sahara. Morocco continues to strengthen its Autonomy Plan by taking several approaches so that external legitimacy can be achieved. This paper aims to analyze the current efforts of the Moroccan government; that is their approach to attain international recognition for external legitimacy and territorial integrity over the Western Sahara. The research method is Qualitative-Descriptive, with data gathering technique being Library Research. Analysis in this paper is based on the Diplomacy and National Interest theories. The result indicates that the current approach of the Moroccan government is getting assertive: tit-for-tat normalization of relations, leverage politics with foreign countries, and expanding tangible presence in the Western Sahara through diplomatic building establishments, as well as setting up international cooperations. These efforts indicate the growing urgency of the Western Sahara for Morocco, and also its non-wavering resolve to protect territorial integrity.

Abstract

In the midst of a dilemmatic condition about the consistency of maintaining an exclusive party ideology and the interest of winning the battle in the election, PKS began to carry out an inclusion-moderation strategy since 2009. This research aims to discuss the fading ideology of  PKS since the 2009-2019 as one of the Islamic parties that is considered to have the clearest ideology when compared with other Islamic parties and with nationalist parties. This research used qualitative methods, meanwhile the data were collected through literature study. The result is political parties in Indonesia implement various strategies to gain as many votes in elections. There is a tendency to moderate and even marginalize ideologies in favor of winning contestation. Despite having a militant conservative religious voter base, PKS chose to moderates the party's ideology through an inclusion-moderation strategy from the 2009 election to the 2019 election. The fading ideology is a consequence of inclusion-moderation strategy. Therefore, in the context of formulating a public policy agenda, the ideological positions of political parties in Indonesia are almost indistinguishable.

Abstract

Abstract

PSEUDO DEMOCRACY: POLITICAL IMAGING WITHIN ISLAMIC FRAMEWORK AND IMPLICATIONS FOR GOOD GOVERNANCEIndonesia, as a Muslim-majority country, weaponizes Islam in politics to win over the voices of Muslims in the country. This method is not allowed to be implemented in Indonesia which adheres to a democratic system. Principally, political imaging is carried out in order to influence society by instilling opinions. Regardless of the purpose of imaging, gaining public trust is way more important rather than just having a good image. Public trust is gained through the credibility of the candidates. The said credibility is achieved when the candidates act in a way that is in line with what they said or promised. Candidates can apply political imagery through good governance to gain public trust without having to accentuate the image of the politicization of Islam. This article aims to see how political imaging should be carried out from an Islamic perspective. The method used to study the problems is qualitative. The result of this study shows that the plurality that exists in Indonesia requires special attention from the government to manage the political religions which can create controversy between religious communities. In order to build an essential democracy in Indonesia and avoid the presence of political power of religious identity in the political arena, every candidate must avoid identity involvement in the electoral arena as a way of avoiding the awakening of identity and its sentiment that occurs in Indonesia.

Abstract

The Ottoman Dynasty was one of the largest forms of Islamic government in history. This study aims to investigate and understand the comparison between the concept of the caliphate in the Ottoman Dynasty, one of the largest Islamic empires in history, and the form of a modern state with democracy, namely the State of Indonesia. This study uses comparative historical analysis, taken from primary sources, historical records, and scientific literature to trace the evolution of governance in the Ottoman Dynasty and the State of Indonesia. The results of this study indicate that there is no standard form of state practice in Islam. The monarchy system in the form of a caliphate state used by the Ottomans is in line with that conveyed by Ibn Abi Rabi who supports a monarchical form of government. The democratic system in the form of a republican state implemented in Indonesia is identical to the concept of Imamah conveyed by al-Mawardi. Any idea or formulation about state practice is permitted in Islam as long as it does not deviate from the references to the Qur'an and Hadith.
