Al-Kalimat Journal of Linguistic and Arabic Teaching is a peer reviewed journal published by Penerbit Hellow Pustaka in Collaboration with Pascasarjana Institut Agama Islam Tasikmalaya. The journal is aimed at spreading the research results conducted by academicians, researchers, and practitioners in the field of Linguistic and Arabic Teaching. Abstract

For a Muslim, mastering Arabic is an important thing where the teachings of the Islamic religion are conveyed in Arabic. When learning Arabic, students and teachers are often faced with existing problems. Gontor is no exception, which in fact is an Islamic boarding school-based educational institution that upholds Arabic language learning. Broadly speaking, there are two problems with learning Arabic, namely: Linguistic and Non-Linguistic. Among the linguistic problems faced by KMI Gontor class 5-S students are: (a) the students are less proficient in capturing and digesting the material presented by the teacher, where the language of instruction for these materials is Arabic, (b) the students are less proficient in reading bald Arabic texts (Arabic texts without harokat), (c) students are less proficient in the kitabah (writing). Even the writing they write themselves sometimes they can't read, (d) the students' nahwu and Sharaf abilities are very poor. Meanwhile, non-linguistic problems faced by class 5-S students include: (a) students' lack of interest and motivation in studying Arabic so that their abilities do not develop and tend to be very poor compared to their peers, (b) some teachers are less proficient in delivering the material. Actively, tend to only transfer knowledge, not provide enthusiasm and constructive impressions to students during learning activities.

Abstract

This research provides an in-depth discussion of Uslūb Muqābalah, a rhetorical style in Arabic that involves contras or opposition of meaning within one or two interconnected sentences. The study aims to describe the definition of uslūb muqābalah, identify its varios forms, and explain its rhetorical and stylistic purposes in classical and contemporary Arabic texts. The research uses a descriptive-analytical approach by examining examples from the Qur’and Arabic literary works. The findings show that uslūb muqābalah not only enhances the aesthetic structure of sentences but also strengthens meaning through sharp contrasts, creates a powerful rhetorical effect, and aids in the reader’s pr listener’s comprehension and memorization. This research is expected to contribute to the study of Arabic rhetoric (balagah) and broaden the understanding of expressive richness in the Arabic language.

Abstract

تُعد مهارة الكلام باللغة العربية كاإحدى التحديات في معهد الأمين. وعلى الرغم من تنفيذ أنشطة المحاضرة اللامنهجية لممارسة مهارة الكلام، أن العديد من الطالبات لا يزلن يفتقرن إلى الثقة بالنفس، وصعوبة في النطق، وغير معتادات على استخدام اللغة العربية بشكل نشط. وتظهر هذه الظاهرة الحاجة إلى طريقة تعليمية أكثر فعالية للتغلب على هذه العقبات.يهدف هذا البحث إلى تحليل مدى فعالية يتم تطبيق عن الطريق التحدث أمام الجمهور في أنشطة المحاضرة العربية ويهدف البحث أيضًا إلى التعرف أثر طريقة التحدث أمام الجمهور في تحسين مهارة الكلام العربي في برنامج المحاضرة. يستخدم هذا البحث نهجًا نوعيًا مع تصميم دراسة الحالة. تم جمع البيانات من خلال المقابلات والملاحظة والتوثيق. وتُستخدم تقنيات تحليل البيانات التي تشمل تقليل البيانات وعرض البيانات واستخلاص الاستنباط. أظهرت نتائج البحث أن طريقة التحدث أمام الجمهور من خلال أنشطة المحاضرة انها تحسين مهارة الكلام لدى الطالبات. أظهرت الطالبات  شعرن سابقًا بالخجل والعصبية زيادة في الثقة بالنفس، وإتقان المفردات، والقدرة على نقل الأفكار بشكل منهجي. ويساهم التقييم الترتيب ودعم البيئة اللغوية في تعزيز هذه النتائج. ويوصي هذا البحث بتحسين أنشطة المحاضرة لدعم تعلم اللغة العربية بشكل أكثر فعالية.

Abstract

This research starts from the difficulty of Arabic language learners in mastering the plural of taxis which have irregular patterns. Early surveys showed 90% of college students had difficulty using the plural of the appraisal when writing, while 85% stated conventional dictionaries were less practical. The lack of digital learning resources that specifically discuss the plural of estimates is the main problem that this research tries to overcome. This research aims to develop an interactive web-based digital plural dictionary of taxir to improve writing skills (kitabah). Using the ADDIE method, this study involved 12 students of Arabic language education as subjects. Data were collected through tests, questionnaires, and interviews, then analyzed quantitatively descriptively. The results showed that this digital dictionary obtained a validation score of 4.3/5 from experts. The effectiveness test proved a significant increase in the average value from 57.92 (pre-test) to 81.67 (post-test) with a significance of 0.000. These findings indicate that digital dictionaries are effective in improving writing skills (kitabah). This research makes an important contribution to the development of technology-based Arabic language learning media. This research not only answers the practical needs of learners, but also opens up opportunities for innovation in Arabic language learning in the digital era. Researchers recommend further research so that there is development of additional features such as audio pronunciation and database expansion.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the educational background issues of students learning Arabic in the Arabic Language Education Study Program at Jambi University, specifically regarding the differences in initial readiness and abilities between graduates of Islamic boarding schools, madrasas, and public schools. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, the study involved seven informants from the class of 2022 through in-depth interviews and participant observation. The results indicate that students from public schools face more significant difficulties in mastering nahwu, sharaf, and muhadatsah due to a limited Arabic language foundation and low self-confidence. Students from madrasahs demonstrated intermediate proficiency, while students from Islamic boarding schools tended to be better prepared, although they still faced challenges in communication and advanced language structures. This difference in initial abilities creates inequalities in the learning process and impacts the effectiveness of learning outcomes. The study concluded that inclusive and differentiated learning strategies, such as remedial classes and contextual approaches, are needed to accommodate diverse student backgrounds and improve the overall quality of Arabic language learning.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to identify the translation techniques used in the book Syarah Diwan Imam Asy-Syafi’i by Muhammad Ibrahim Salim and to describe how these translation techniques are realized in the translated text. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. In the data collection stage, the researcher applied a library research technique by using Syarah Diwan Imam al-Shafi‘i by Muhammad Ibrahim Salim as the primary data source, focusing on the poem themed “Anjuran untuk Merantau” (Encouragement to Travel), which consists of seven stanzas. The data were classified based on the translation techniques proposed by Molina and Albir. The data analysis process followed the Miles and Huberman model, which consists of four main steps: (1) data collection, (2) data reduction, (3) data display, and (4) conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that from the seven stanzas of the poem on encouragement to travel, 63 data items were identified. After being classified according to Molina and Albir’s translation techniques, only 10 out of the 18 techniques were found to be used, namely: (1) literal translation with 12 data, (2) transposition with 1 datum, (3) modulation with 12 data, (4) adaptation with 4 data, (5) established equivalence with 5 data, (6) particularization with 3 data, (7) reduction with 15 data, (8) substitution with 3 data, (9) amplification with 5 data, and (10) linguistic amplification with 5 data.
