Abstract

Bottled Drinking Water (AMDK) is a drinking water product provided in packaging and comes from various sources such as mountain springs to groundwater. It is then processed by sterilization, packaged, and is safe to drink. Food safety in AMDK must meet physical and chemical, as well as microbiological requirements according to the Indonesian National Standard (SNI 3553:2015). This study aims to explore the safety of AMDK products by identifying the presence of coliform and e. coli. The method used is descriptive quantitative. A total of five commercial AMDK test samples with 600 mL Bottle packaging in Palembang City were analyzed microbiologically including coliform and e. coli tests with CCA media. The test results showed that three of the five samples were positive for coliform contamination and one of the five samples was positive for E. coli contamination. However, two of the five samples were found negative for coliform and E. coli.

Abstract

Infestation by Sitophilus spp. in maize seeds during storage can reduce seed quality and viability. The use of botanical insecticides derived from local plants offers a potential eco-friendly control alternative. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a mixture of Stenochlaena palustris and Mikania micrantha powders as a botanical insecticide against Sitophilus spp. and to assess its impact on maize seed viability. An experimental approach using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was employed, comprising six treatments and five replicates: a positive control, a negative control, and mixtures of the two plant powders (1:1 ratio) at dosages of 1 g, 2 g, 3 g, and 4 g per 30 maize seeds. Each experimental unit was infested with three pairs of adult Sitophilus spp. Parameters observed included insect mortality, infestation intensity, seed weight loss, and germination capacity after 30 days of storage. Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at a 5% significance level, followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results indicated that the treatments significantly affected insect mortality and seed viability. The mixture of S. palustris and M. micrantha  powders at the highest dosage demonstrated the greatest effectiveness, achieving 100% mortality, an infestation intensity of ≤0.27%, and seed weight loss of ≤4.5%. Furthermore, seed viability remained high, with germination reaching 100% by day 7. Thus, the mixture of S. palustris  and M. micrantha powders shows potential as an effective botanical insecticide for controlling Sitophilus spp. in stored maize seeds

Abstract

Fruit quality is a key indicator in determining the market value of Salak Sidimpuan. One environmental factor influencing fruit quality is the altitude of the growing site. This study aimed to analyze the effect of altitude variations on the quality of Salak Sidimpuan (Salacca sumatrana Becc.) fruit in South Tapanuli Regency. A quantitative approach with a comparative design was employed. The sample consisted of 30 *salak* orchards grouped into three altitude zones: lowlands (0–300 m asl), mid-elevations (300–700 m asl), and highlands (>700 m asl). Quality parameters analyzed included sugar content (°Brix), fruit weight, vitamin C content, total acidity, fruit skin color, and the percentage of marketable fruit. Data were analyzed using ANOVA followed by the Tukey test at a 5% significance level. The results showed that altitude significantly affected all fruit quality parameters (p<0.05). Mid-elevation areas produced the best quality, yielding the highest sugar content (18.6°Brix), greatest fruit weight (62.4 g), highest vitamin C content (8.9 mg/100 g), and highest percentage of marketable fruit (87%). Conversely, lowlands exhibited the lowest quality, while highlands fell into the intermediate category. Thus, altitude is a crucial factor in determining Salak Sidimpuan quality, with the optimal range found in mid-elevation areas.

Abstract

Patchouli is an essential oil-producing crop that commands a high price and serves as a key Indonesian export commodity, contributing significantly to national foreign exchange earnings. While patchouli is cultivated in various regions across Indonesia—such as Aceh, Sumatra, Java, and Sulawesi—it is now also being developed in the Bangka Belitung Islands, specifically in Bencah Village, Airgegas District. This study aims to identify the motivations behind farmers' engagement in patchouli cultivation and to analyze the income of patchouli farmers in Bencah Village, Airgegas District, South Bangka Regency. A case study approach was employed, utilizing a census sampling method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires, and subsequently analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative descriptive methods. The results indicate that the patchouli cultivation process comprises several stages: nursery preparation, planting, maintenance, and finally, harvesting and post-harvest activities. Farmers' motivations for cultivating patchouli in Bencah Village fall into two categories: intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic motivation stems from the farmers' personal drive—primarily the desire to utilize spare time—whereas extrinsic motivation arises from external factors, with farmer groups and market prices being the primary drivers. Extrinsic motivation was found to exert a greater influence than intrinsic motivation. Income analysis revealed that the average annual income of patchouli farmers is Rp 14,426,113.

Abstract

Information on fish species composition is essential for evaluating the ecological condition of river ecosystems and providing a scientific basis for sustainable fisheries management. However, data on fish diversity in the Komering River, particularly in Sukadarma Village, Jejawi District, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, remain limited. Therefore, this study aimed to inventory fish species caught in the Komering River and assess their diversity, evenness, and dominance. The research was conducted from February to May 2024 at five observation stations using a purposive sampling approach. Fish sampling was carried out four times per month for three consecutive months. Data were analyzed using the Shannon–Wiener diversity index (H'), evenness index (E), and Simpson's dominance index (C). A total of 635 individual fish representing 21 species were recorded during the study. The diversity index ranged from 1.03 to 3.42, indicating moderate diversity at Stations 1–4 (H' = 1.03–2.78) and high diversity at Station 5 (H' = 3.42). Evenness values ranged from 0.51 to 0.98, indicating that fish individuals were generally distributed evenly among species. Dominance index values ranged from 0.18 to 0.62, with only Station 3 showing species dominance (C = 0.62), while the remaining stations exhibited no dominant species. These findings indicate that the Komering River in Sukadarma Village still supports relatively stable freshwater fish communities with moderate to high biodiversity, providing important baseline information for fisheries resource management and biodiversity conservation.

Abstract

Indonesia is the world’s largest producer of clove (Syzygium aromaticum), accounting for approximately 73% of global output, supported by agroclimatic conditions that are highly favorable for clove cultivation. However, climate change, manifested through rising temperatures, increasingly erratic rainfall patterns, and more frequent drought events, has contributed to a decline in national productivity to approximately 260–360 kg ha⁻¹, nearly 50% below its potential yield. This study examines the influence of structural and agroclimatic factors on Indonesia’s clove production and assesses their implications for the country’s comparative advantage. Using a quantitative approach, time-series data from 2002–2023 were analyzed through multiple linear regression. The results reveal that plantation area and annual average temperature exert positive effects on clove production, with coefficients of 0.387 and 66,896, respectively, whereas rainfall does not exhibit a statistically significant partial effect. Nevertheless, the variables jointly have a significant influence on production at the 95% confidence level, as indicated by an F-statistic of 74.544 exceeding the critical value of 3.05 (p < 0.05). These findings demonstrate that Indonesia’s clove production is shaped by the interaction between structural and agroclimatic determinants. Strengthening plantation management, improving climate adaptation measures, and enhancing production resilience are therefore critical to sustaining productivity, preserving export competitiveness, and maintaining Indonesia’s leading position in the global clove market under increasing climate-related pressures

Abstract

The risks of forest honey production are greatly influenced by natural factors such as weather, temperature, drought, and flooding. In addition to natural factors, risks can also arise from marketing activities. The purpose of this study was to identify the risks and risk levels of the Sambava Honey trading business in Sumbawa Regency. The study was conducted in February 2025 at UD. Sambava Honey Sumbawa. The sample was selected using purposive sampling. The sample consisted of the forest honey business owners of UD. Sambava Honey. Data analysis in identifying risks used a fishbone diagram (Fishbone Matrix), and for risk levels used the Matrix Impact Factor. The results of the study found that product risks in the Sambava Honey trading business include honey availability (stock and delays in supply); honey quality (water content is not always good >22%, weather affects honey quality, place and length of storage time); and packaging (damaged bottles and packaging labels). Market risks include consumer behavior (consumer complaints about convex packaging and constantly changing prices); product selling prices (supply prices increase, shipping costs increase, and honey prices fluctuate); competitors (the presence of cultivated honey and other brands of honey); and marketing (obstacles in promotion and sales). Partnership risks consist of cooperation partners (obstacles with partners in providing and shipping honey supplies, obstacles in shipping, and obstacles with partners in procuring packaging and labels); and cooperation contracts (collaboration contracts are suddenly terminated unilaterally, and the cooperation contract is unclear). There are no high levels of risk in the Sambava Honey forest honey business. Fourteen risks are classified as low risk, and seven are classified as medium risk.

Abstract

Population growth, coupled with a fixed land supply, has accelerated the conversion of agricultural land and may undermine food security. To address this issue, sustainable food agricultural areas need to be designated through the formulation of Sustainable Food Agricultural Land (LP2B) protection policy strategies to ensure that existing agricultural land can be preserved. This study aimed to analyse internal and external factors and formulate priority policy strategies for LP2B protection to control agricultural land conversion in Merauke Regency. The study was conducted in Merauke Regency, Papua Province, Indonesia (currently South Papua Province), from August to October 2020. The study site was purposively selected. Both primary and secondary data were used. Primary data were collected through questionnaires and interviews involving ten respondents, while secondary data were obtained from the Department of Agriculture and relevant literature. The analysis employed the AWOT approach, which integrates the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis. The results identified eleven policy strategies for protecting sustainable food agricultural land in Merauke Regency. The highest-priority strategy was the designation of permanent food agricultural areas that should be strictly protected from conversion to non-agricultural uses.

Abstract

Changes in urban lifestyles characterized by high mobility and limited time have led to an increase in demand for practical and easily accessible fast food. One popular product is the microwave burger sold at Lawson. The increase in consumption of processed fast food not only affects consumer behavior but is also closely related to the principles of responsible consumption and production as outlined in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 12. This study aims to evaluate customer satisfaction with purchasing microwave burgers at Lawson Surabaya in terms of price, product, ease of obtaining, packaging, packaging design, service and analyze its contribution to the implementation of SDGs 12. A descriptive quantitative approach was used for this study, with 97 respondents selected through sampling using accidental sampling techniques with the characteristics of respondents who have consumed burgers and are above 17 years old. Data analysis was carried out using the Customer satisfaction Index (CSI) after conducting validity and reliability tests. The results showed a CSI value of 83.984%, which is included in the "very satisfied" category. The elements that most influence customer satisfaction are appropriate portion size, product quality, accessibility, and service. These findings suggest that Lawson's microwaveable burgers meet urban consumer expectations and have the potential to reduce food waste and create more efficient consumption patterns

Abstract

Chili price fluctuations have become one of the major issues in the horticultural marketing system because they affect farmers’ income stability and consumers’ purchasing power. The considerable price differences between producer and consumer levels indicate the existence of price disparities and marketing margins that potentially reduce the efficiency of chili distribution. This study aims to analyze the dynamics of producer and consumer chili prices and to measure Farmer share as an indicator of chili marketing efficiency in Pagar Alam City in 2025. The study employed a quantitative descriptive method using secondary data on producer prices and retail prices obtained from the Department of Agriculture of Pagar Alam City. The analysis focused on curly red chili, large red chili, and cayenne pepper using Farmer share and marketing margin approaches. The results showed that chili prices experienced significant fluctuations throughout 2025. Cayenne pepper had the highest price volatility, while curly red chili recorded the highest marketing margin during certain periods. In general, the Farmer share values of all chili commodities were above 60%, indicating that the marketing system was relatively efficient. However, in several months, increased marketing margins reduced the proportion of prices received by farmers. Price fluctuations were influenced by seasonal changes, market supply, distribution costs, and the length of the marketing chain. High marketing margins indicate that chili distribution has not been fully efficient. Therefore, strengthening farmer institutions, developing digital marketing systems, and providing real-time price information are necessary to improve Farmer share and the welfare of chili farmers.
