Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in Indonesia. The most common symptoms include shortness of breath, cough, and secretion retention that interferes with airway clearance. One of the non-pharmacological interventions to address respiratory problems is Diaphragmatic Breathing Exercise (DBE), which aims to improve ventilation effectiveness and optimize breathing patterns. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of Diaphragmatic Breathing Exercise in airway management among pulmonary TB patients in the Emergency Department of Dr. Tadjuddin Chalid Hospital, Makassar. Method: A case study was conducted using a nursing care approach, which included assessment, nursing diagnoses, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Results: After the implementation, the patient showed significant improvements, including a more regular respiratory rate (decreasing from 28 breaths/min), reduced use of accessory respiratory muscles, easier sputum expectoration, decreased wheezing, and reduced shortness of breath. These outcomes indicate that DBE is effective in enhancing airway clearance and improving breathing patterns in pulmonary TB patients. Conclusion: Diaphragmatic Breathing Exercise has proven to be an effective non-pharmacological intervention in airway management for pulmonary TB patients. This technique can be used as a supportive therapy in emergency departments as well as in continued care to improve the quality of life of patients.

Abstract

Ureteral stones are one of the most common urological problems that often cause urinary elimination disorders such as retention, severe pain, and risk of complications. Management is generally focused on pharmacological therapy and invasive procedures, while non- pharmacological interventions are still rarely applied. Kegel exercise is a pelvic floor muscle training aimed at improving urinary control and enhancing urinary elimination. To determine the effectiveness of Kegel exercise in improving urinary elimination in the Emergency Department of Dr. Tajuddin Chalid General Hospital, Makassar. This study used a case study design involving a 21-year-old male patient diagnosed with ureteral stones. Nursing care was provided through assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The main intervention consisted of education and Kegel exercise training.Findings showed improvements in urinary elimination, including smoother urine flow, reduced complaints of incomplete voiding, and decreased pain intensity. Kegel exercise can serve as a simple, safe, and effective non pharmacological intervention to improve urinary elimination. Recommendation: This exercise may be considered as a supportive therapy in emergency nursing care for patients with urinary elimination disorders.

Abstract

Post-craniotomy wound care education plays a crucial role in preventing complications such as pressure injuries, recurrent trauma, and infection caused by inadequate personal hygiene, particularly in hemiparesis patients who experience limited mobility. This case study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of postoperative education in improving the patient’s family knowledge regarding wound care after craniotomy at the Operating Room of Dr. Tadjuddin Chalid General Hospital. Pre Experimental Design through One Group Pre-Post Test. The pre-test results showed a score of 60%, with errors related to the use of support pillows for pressure prevention and the importance of scalp and hair hygiene in infection control. After receiving education through lectures, demonstrations, and interactive discussions, the participant’s post-test score increased to 100%, indicating complete comprehension of the material. The 40% increase met the criteria for significant improvement and was supported by the participant’s ability to accurately recall the main educational points.  Evaluation also revealed positive behavioral changes, where the patient’s family demonstrated improved understanding and the ability to perform appropriate wound care, recognize risk areas, and implement proper personal hygiene measures. These findings confirm that postoperative educational interventions effectively enhance knowledge and readiness among families caring for hemiparesis patients after craniotomy. This intervention supports recovery, prevents complications, and improves the quality of perioperative nursing care.

Abstract

Hyperthermia is a condition where body temperature rises above normal due to a disruption in thermoregulatory mechanisms, where heat production exceeds the body's ability to dissipate heat. In children, hyperthermia accompanied by hyperprexia can lead to serious complications such as seizures, dehydration, and even impaired consciousness. Hyperthermia can be managed through pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies. One such non-pharmacological intervention is a red onion compress, which is traditionally believed to be effective in lowering body temperature. Objective: This study aims to determine the effectiveness of red onion compresses in reducing hyperthermia in patients with hyperprexia and to analyze its role as an innovation in evidence-based practice-based nursing care. Methods: This study used a case study approach on a 4-year-old child with a body temperature of 41.9℃. Intervention was carried out through a 10-minute compress of 3 cloves of red onion combined with standard nursing measures such as vital sign monitoring, fluid administration, family education, and collaborative antipyretic administration. Data were collected through clinical observation, family interviews, and nursing care documentation. Results: After the intervention, the patient's body temperature dropped from 41.9℃ to 37.9℃, the patient no longer shivered, the face looked fresher, the lip mucosa began to moisten, and complaints of nausea and vomiting decreased. Conclusion: Onion compresses have been proven to be effective in helping to reduce body temperature in patients with hyperthermia. This intervention can be used as a simple, safe, and supportive non-pharmacological therapy that can be used in conjunction with medical therapy. Suggestion: For hospitals, it is hoped that onion compress interventions can be considered for inclusion in the Nursing Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) as an alternative non-pharmacological action. For the development of nursing science, further research with a larger sample size is needed to strengthen the scientific evidence of the effectiveness of onion compresses in managing hyperthermia.

Abstract

Stroke is one of the leading causes of disability, clinically manifested by muscle weakness, spasticity, and mobility disorders. Acupuncture therapy is a complementary treatment proven to improve blood circulation, reduce spasticity, and stimulate neuroplasticity, thereby potentially enhancing muscle strength in the extremities of stroke patients. Methods: This study employed a case study design involving stroke patients with muscle weakness in the extremities. Data were collected through observation of muscle strength using the Manual Muscle Testing (MMT) scale, assessment of mobility, and fall risk evaluation using the Morse Fall Scale, conducted before and after acupuncture intervention. Results:The intervention involved regular acupuncture therapy at specific points—Baihui(GV20), Taichong (LR3), Shenmai (BL6), Ququan (LR8), Huoxi (SI3), and Zhaohai (KI6)—which showed an improvement in lower extremity muscle strength fromgrade 4 to 5 on the MMT scale, an increase in range of motion (ROM), andenhanced ambulation ability. The fall risk category decreased from high (score 60) to low (score 25) after several sessions of acupuncture therapy. Conclusion: Acupuncture therapy has a positive effect on improving muscle strength in the extremities and reducing fall risk among stroke patients. It can be considered an effective complementary therapy in stroke rehabilitation to supportphysiotherapy and improve patients’ quality of life.

Abstract

Antepartum hemorrhage is defined as vaginal bleeding that occurs after 20 weeks of gestation but before the onset of labor. It remains a significant cause of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality, necessitating an understanding of its prevalence, risk factors, and contributing factors. This study aimed to determine the factors influencing the increase in antepartum hemorrhage among pregnant women attending antenatal clinics at Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ekiti State. The study employed a simple random sampling technique, with data collected using a self-developed, semi-structured questionnaire containing 43 items. A Total of 74 respondents participated, achieving a valid return rate of 100 percent. The data was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 28 and Microsoft Office Excel version 2016, employing descriptive statistics such as frequencies and percentages. The findings revealed that 13.5 percent of the respondents had experienced antepartum hemorrhage, with varying frequencies of occurrence. Identified risk factors included high parity (27.0 percent strongly agreed, 51.4 percent agreed), pregnancy complications (47.3 percent strongly agreed, 41.9 percent agreed), and a history of uterine surgery (32.4 percent strongly agreed, 39.2 percent agreed). Additionally, factors such as advanced maternal age (41.9 percent strongly agreed, 45.9 percent agreed) and multiple pregnancies (14.9 percent strongly agreed, 48.6 percent agreed) were significant contributors. The study underscores the need for heightened awareness, improved prenatal screening, and tailored interventions to mitigate antepartum hemorrhage risks. Health education on risk reduction strategies and early medical intervention is essential in preventing complications associated with antepartum hemorrhage.

Abstract

Electronic Medical Record (EMR) is an informatics innovation designed to support nurses in improving work efficiency, patient safety, and the quality of care in Emergency Departments (ED). This scoping review analyzes 11 national and international studies to describe how EMR is implemented by emergency nurses. The findings reveal that EMR implementation is influenced by user readiness (attitude, knowledge, and skills), the presence of a Safety Alert System (SAS), completeness of documentation supported by standard operating procedures (SOPs), system interoperability, and reimbursement processes. A well-integrated EMR improves documentation accuracy, streamlines clinical workflow, and reduces the risk of medical errors. However, several challenges persist, including the absence of national SOP standards, lack of SAS in many Indonesian hospitals, and user resistance. Optimizing EMR implementation requires improved technological infrastructure, stronger interoperability, routine training for nurses, and more user-friendly EMR designs

Abstract

The importance of complementary feeding to prevent stunting is because complementary feeding is an important step in a child's development after six months of age. Choosing the right type of food during this period can have a major impact on a child's growth and development. Data from Aceh Province in 2022 shows that 321,709 toddlers were weighed and measured, with 29,819 toddlers (9.3%) suffering from stunting. The highest number of stunted toddlers was found in Aceh Besar District, with 4,974 cases (17.5%). In North Aceh District, 35,992 toddlers were weighed and measured, with 2,735 toddlers (7.5%) suffering from stunting. This study is a quantitative study using a cross-sectional study. The frequency distribution results for complementary feeding showed that the majority were in the inappropriate category, with 38 people (62.3%), while the majority of stunting cases were in the non-stunting category, with 41 people (67.2%). The chi-square test yielded a p-value of 0.002 < (α) = 0.05, indicating a significant association between complementary feeding and stunting among infants at the Dewantara Health Center in North Aceh District in 2025. There is an association between complementary feeding and stunting among infants
