Abstract

Food security is a crucial issue that significantly impacts the quality of life, particularly in rural areas that continue to face food insecurity due to limitations in technology, infrastructure, and market access. Furthermore, the implementation of occupational safety and health within households is a critical aspect in preventing the risk of domestic accidents and illnesses. This community service activity was conducted in Kota Baru Village, Lubai Subdistrict, Muara Enim Regency, targeting housewives, with the aim of improving community understanding related to household OSH and food security. The implementation methods included interactive lectures and hands-on practice, involving training in hydroponic cultivation using recycled materials, as well as educational sessions on household occupational safety and health. The activity was evaluated using pre-test and post-test questionnaires administered to the respondents. The results showed an increase in the average score of household OSH knowledge from 75.38 to 88.00 among 40 respondents, and an increase in food security knowledge from 85.00 to 97.00 among 20 respondents. The Wilcoxon test revealed significance values of 0.000 and 0.001, respectively, indicating statistically significant improvements. This program has proven to be effective in enhancing community understanding, as evidenced by the substantial improvement in knowledge after the intervention. For future community service efforts, it is recommended to develop relevant programs with more regular implementation to ensure sustained benefits for the community.

Abstract

Food security plays a strategic role in supporting the creation of a healthy and independent society. This issue is a major concern, both globally and nationally. Internationally, this is summarized in the second Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), Zero Hunger, which focuses on ending hunger through achieving food security, improving nutrition, and sustainable agriculture. Additionally, this initiative contributes to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being. Furthermore, it is also relevant to SDG 1: No Poverty. In Kencana Mulia Village, Rambang Sub-district, Muaraenim District, the community's dietary patterns remain monotonous and lack variety, potentially leading to nutritional deficiencies. In response to this situation, students from the Field Learning Experience (PBL) program at the Faculty of Public Health, University of Sriwijaya, initiated the Healthy and Balanced Nutrition Festival. This program is designed to enhance residents' knowledge and awareness of the importance of consuming diverse, nutritious, balanced, and safe food, using a participatory-educational approach. The series of activities included educational sessions on balanced nutrition and reducing food waste, a menu creation competition titled “My Plate” for mothers, and a coloring competition titled “My Plate” for children. The program received a positive response from the community, as evidenced by the high level of enthusiasm and increased understanding among participants. Additionally, the activities educated the community on utilizing local food ingredients and strengthened the role of mothers in making nutritional decisions within the family. The active participation of health workers and support from village officials further contributed to the program's success. The results of the implementation indicate that this festival is an effective tool for promoting nutrition at the village level and is worthy of being implemented sustainably in other areas with similar characteristics.

Abstract

Abstract

The Sumber Asri Nutrition Barn Program was implemented as a community empowerment initiative aimed at building food security based on local potential in Sumber Asri Village, Lubai Ulu District, Muara Enim Regency. The lack of access to nutritious food and low consumption of vegetables and medicinal plants prompted the execution of this program. The activities were conducted through participatory education, interactive counseling, and indirect demonstrations involving 30 participants consisting of housewives and heads of families. Educational materials were delivered visually and interactively, followed by a demonstration video on making fertilizer from food waste, and direct planting of various crops such as spinach, water spinach, mustard greens, lemongrass, galangal, turmeric, and basil. The program showed success through active community participation in discussions, understanding of food security principles, and the ability to plant independently. Collaboration with village officials further supported the program’s sustainability by initiating the use of home yards as independent food sources. The findings indicate that a community-based approach through education and practical implementation can raise public awareness in managing food sustainably. This success serves as a tangible example of the synergy between education, environment, and village policy in realizing empowered and independent food security

Abstract

Low community participation in Posyandu remains a challenge in improving maternal and child health in Marga Mulya Village. The contributing factors include low education levels, farming occupations, inflexible Posyandu schedules, and unhealthy household expenditures such as smoking. The Field Learning Experience (PBL) activity of Group 4 introduced the “SEHATI” (Healthy and Active Together with the Residents of Marga Mulya Village) program, which involves a healthy walking activity as a non-formal educational medium to raise awareness about the importance of Posyandu. This activity involves mothers of infants and heads of households, combined with health education sessions, distribution of pamphlets, and door prizes. Evaluation results showed an increase in the number of infant Posyandu visits from 40 to 48 children, or a 20% increase after the activity was implemented. Additionally, the enthusiasm of the community during the activity served as an indicator of increased attention to health services. Community-based health promotion strategies that are enjoyable and participatory have proven effective in raising community awareness and encouraging behavioral change. This activity is expected to serve as a model for community-based approaches to address low Posyandu participation, particularly in rural areas.
