Abstract

The phenomenon of reading difficulties in upper elementary school students needs a solution. Moreover, the upper elementary school curriculum contains theories and concepts that require students' good reading skills. This study aims to analyze the types, causes, and impacts of reading difficulties in fourth-grade elementary school students. This qualitative study uses a phenomenological approach. Primary data consists of teachers and five fourth-grade students who have reading difficulties. Secondary data are journals and books as a theoretical basis. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using qualitative analysis techniques. The results of the study showed (1) the types of students' reading difficulties are not recognizing letters, not being able to identify words, not being fluent in reading aloud, not understanding the meaning of the text, and not being able to listen to reading, (2) The factors causing students' reading difficulties are family factors, lack of interest and motivation to read, and students' intelligence levels. (3) The reading difficulties experienced by students have a significant impact on students' academic, psychological, and social interactions. This study has implications for the importance of teachers understanding the characteristics of students in "reading" learning. This understanding greatly determines the direction of learning related to methods, strategies, techniques, tactics, and teaching styles.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of work motivation on the performance of employees of the West Sulawesi Provincial Education Office. Motivation in this study is based on four indicators of Herzberg's intrinsic motivation: responsibility, work performance, job satisfaction, and opportunities for advancement. The type of research used is analytical observational research using cross-sectional studies. The number of population was 163; the sampling technique was total sampling. The data analysis techniques used were univariate analysis, bivariate analysis (chi-square), and multivariate analysis with logistic regression. The results show that responsibility, work performance, and opportunities for advancement significantly influence employee performance, while job satisfaction does not significantly influence employee performance. This study has implications for the importance of job promotions to be based on performance, not political promotions. This can make employees have positive and emotional feelings about their work.

Abstract

Technology-based learning media have been proven to increase students' interest and motivation to learn. However, the creation of the media only targets the cognitive domain without considering the character of the students. This study aims to determine the implementation of strengthening character education through video-assisted learning in elementary school students during the Campus-Teaching program. This type of research is qualitative with a case study approach. The object of this research is grade V students of SD Inpres Pabaeng-baeng, Makassar City. Informants consist of principals, teachers, and students. Data collection uses interviews, observation, and documentation techniques. Data analysis uses descriptive qualitative analysis techniques. Data validity testing uses triangulation techniques. The results of the study found that the implementation of strengthening student character education through video-assisted learning with indicators of religious, discipline, and responsibility is not optimal. This study has implications for knowledge of the material not being directly proportional to the improvement of student character. Therefore, the role of teachers as good role models, advisors, and counselors for students is very important.

Abstract

The centralization of education policy in Indonesia has made educational materials and objectives lose their locality. The role and strategic steps of the principal are needed in implementing government regulations and the needs of a plural society. The purpose of this study was to analyze the strategy of the principal of Madrasah Aliyah (MA) Bilingual Batu in improving the quality of education through flagship programs. This qualitative study purposively selected the principal as the main informant, and teachers and students as supporting informants. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique used descriptive analysis techniques with data validity tests using triangulation techniques. The results of the study showed that in order to make graduates able to compete in the international arena, bilingual programs (mastery of English and Arabic) were determined as flagship programs. To make the program a success, the principal took seven strategic steps: Establish a forum for channeling students’ interests and talents, form work teams, establish and maintain communication, improve teacher quality, provide infrastructure facilities, adjust the curriculum, and evaluate.

Abstract

People continue to socialize about the negative impacts of early marriage. However, early marriage still occurs a lot, especially in rural areas. This study aims to examine the factors causing early marriage, the impacts of early marriage, and the role of community education in preventing early marriage. This study uses a qualitative approach with the research location in Labakkang District, Pangkep Regency. Data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation were analyzed descriptively. The informants in this study numbered 5 people: a community leader, three early marriage couples, and an employee of the religious affairs office. The results of the study showed that early marriage was due to arranged marriages and considered a disgrace if they refused the proposal. The social health impacts of early marriage are dropping out of school, gender discrimination, divorce, mental health, pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum problems. The role of community education in preventing early marriage is still very minimal because of the characteristics of a tough society that make it difficult to provide understanding. This research has implications for the importance of the government, community leaders, religious leaders, and traditional leaders working together to provide education regarding early marriage and its impact on society at large.

Abstract

This study aims to examine in depth the implementation of Islamic education management and its effectiveness in strengthening Islamic school culture at Athirah Islamic High School, Bukit Baruga, Makassar City. The research approach used is qualitative descriptive with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation studies. The results of the study show that the managerial functions of planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating are carried out systematically and integrated with Islamic values. Planning of religious programs is prepared through work meetings involving various school parties, while the implementation includes daily religious activities such as congregational prayers, tahfidz, and the habituation of Islamic morals. The organization of religious educators and coaches is carried out professionally with a clear distribution of duties. The evaluation of Islamic education learning is also carried out holistically, covering cognitive, affective, and behavioral aspects of students. Factors supporting implementation include visionary leadership, a religious organizational culture, and the availability of facilities. The obstacles are the difference in the level of teachers' understanding and the influence of outside culture. This research confirms that Islamic education management is an important instrument in shaping a vibrant and sustainable Islamic school culture.
