Abstract

This study was aimed at assessing the effect of grain size and type of fl uid fi lling the pore to its magnetic susceptibility value. Iron sand was separated based on the grain size into 0.5 mm, 0.25 mm, 0.125 mm and 0.074 mm and based on the condition; namely dry, mixed with distilled water and salt water. Some measurements were done in the laboratory using Bartington MS2 Susceptibility Magnetic Meter and XRD (X-Ray Diffraction). Bartington MS2 Susceptibility Magnetic Meter is used to measure the magnetic susceptibility of each grain size in all conditions, while XRD is used to identify the type and the concentration of minerals contained in each size of iron sand. Iron sand with the smaller grain size and high concentration of magnetite mineral will increase the value of magnetic susceptibility and its density. In addition, the type of fl uids that fi lls the pore of each size also gives the variations of the magnetic susceptibility.

Abstract

The dynamic model and characterization of a two-link fl exible manipulator as an alternative for manipulator robot to achieve the effi ciency on consuming electrical energy comparing with rigid manipulator. A planar two-link fl exible manipulator was combined with structural damping, hub inertia and payload that moving horizontally. A dynamic model system was developed using the combination of Euler-Lagrange and assumed mode methods. Armed with the developed model, then some simulations were done to examine the dynamic model and the response of the system on the hub and the end point of both link that were presented and analyzed in function of time and frequency. The results show that the bang-bang input of 0.15 volt can move the link 1 on 55 0 and link-2 on 122 respectively. It means that the dynamic model uses more effi cient energy compared with rigid manipulator robot which required bigger input for moving.

Abstract

The research aimed at using glycerol of biodiesel synthesis side product from used cooking oil as glycerol acetate material synthesis, and charactering synthesized material based on data of IR spectroscopy and GCMS. The method used to synthesize glycerol acetate was refl ux during 50 minute at 80 C. Glycerol from biodiesel synthesis side product from used cooking oil was purifi ed with acetic anhydride reacted at 80 0 C, for 50 minutes. The synthesis product was characterized by IR and GCMS spectroscopies. The result of this research shows that glycerol derived from synthesizing glycerol 1–monoacetate and glycerol 2-monoacetate in the form of yellow liquid with 145 148 0 0 C boiling point, soluble in ethanol and insoluble in n-hexane. IR spectrum shows the presence of C=O carbonyl, C-O ester, -OH, and C-H aliphatic group; GCMS spectrum shows a mixture from two glycerol monoacetate with SI (Similiar Index) of 97 and 93.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the potential of jamu inggu as an alternative antibacterial herb that can be used against Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pnuemoniae, S. Pyogenes, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa that is causing Upper Respiratory Infections (URI). Antibacteria activity test of jamu inggu was using the Agar diffusion method by Kirby-Bauer. To test jamu inggu antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pnuemoniae, S. Pyogenes, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, the diameter of the test bacteria growth inhibition zone was measured. The formation of a clear zone around the disc indicates that jamu inggu has chemical compounds that are antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus, while the Pseudomonas aerugenosa, Streptococcus pyogenes, and S. pneumoniae bacteria cannot be inhibited by jamu inggu. It was indicated by no formation of a clear zone around the disc. Result shows that jamu inggu can be used as an alternative source of antibiotics against the Staphylococcus aureus.

Abstract

This study discusses about the thin layer activation technique to test the mechanical components wear level. The results of preliminary experimental techniques are presented. The experimental results of the technique by using a motorcycle ring samples showed that the accuracy of measurement of the wear is 8 mg. This means that it will be less precise for testing the lightweight components. It will be more eligible to the component that the weight is more than 220 g. The prospect of developing the technique was also discussed; the result is that this technique would be appropriate to be developed at the DECY-13 cyclotron facility that will soon be constructed in BATAN.

Abstract

This research was aimed at fi nding the infl uence of giving isolate probiotic Lactic Acid Bacteria (BAL) Streptococcus thermophillus from the fi sh’s gastro-intestinal tract toward the broilers’ appearance including the enhancement of the weight, and the broilers’ cholesterol level. The subjects of the research are 40 roosters of broiler chicken, PT Multi Breeder Adirama at the age of 1 week. The probiotic of isolate treatment of BAL used in this research is Streptococcus thermophillus bacteria in the form of freeze dying from Nutrition Biochemical Laboratory, Veterinary Faculty of UGM. Treatment I was as the control (without BAL); the number of BAL in treatment II is 10 6  CFU/ml; the number of BAL in treatment III is 10  CFU/ml; and the number of BAL in treatment IV is 10  CFU/ml. The data recording for the performance was done every week including the weight enhancement. The data collection for cholesterol level enhancement was done at the end of the research. The data which were collected: the weight enhancement, and the broilers’ cholesterol level. The fi nding shows that the treatment of giving lactic acid bacteria of Streptococcus thermophillus caused the broilers’ cholesterol decreased signifi cantly; giving probiotic BAL is not infl uenced toward the performance of growth while the best level of BAL is 108 CFU/ml. 8

Abstract

This research aimed at determining the optimization concentration of NaOH as a catalyst to produce the compound 2.6-bis(3’,4’-dimethoxybenzylidene) cyclohexanone in maximum yield through Claisen-Schmidt reaction. Synthesizing of 2.6-bis-(3’,4’ dimethoxybenzylidene)cyclohexanone through Claisen-Schmidt reaction was conducted by stirring method for two hours at 10°C. Raw materials used were 3,4-dimethoxybenzaldehyde and cyclohexanone. In this research, NaOH was used as a catalyst. The solvents that used were aquades and methanol. Moles variations of NaOH which was added in the research were 0.005; 0.01; 0.02; 0.04 and 0.08 moles. The results shows that the NaOH 0.005, 0.01, 0.02, 0.04, and 0.08 mol have produce in yield, 89.56, 81.23, 107.68, 115.98, and 14.55% respectively. From the data it can be seen the optimum yield obtained at NaOH 0.04 mol.

Abstract

This study was aimed at creating a prototype of the hotel reservation system with colloquial interface. An input provided by the prospective hotel guests which form a sentence using colloquial language. Indonesian language will be used to query the data of rooms that is stored in a hotel data base. The performance of reservation system relies heavily on a wealth of knowledge and data held by the system. The output of the system is room information in accordance with the given query by the potential guests. The existence of this room searching model with colloquial interface is expected to be an alternative to the hotel reservation service in order to provide a more fl exible system in the interaction with the guests.
