Abstract

This article examines Kidung Sulapan, a 19th-century manuscript from Batavia that describes various traditional magic performances. The study aims to explain how the magic tricks in the manuscript work through the psychological principles of misdirection, optical illusions, gestalt theory, selective attention, and the psychology of emotions, such as awe, surprise, and curiosity. The method used is modern philology to describe the text's content, combined with psychological analysis to interpret the cognitive processes behind the illusions. The results show that magicians exploit audiences' perceptual weaknesses by distracting attention, presenting deceptive visual stimuli, and creating false whole perceptions, for example in the tricks of turning ink into water containing fish or drawing the correct cards. These visual effects trigger strong emotional responses that reinforce the impression of magic. This study confirms that traditional texts not only record performing arts but also contain psychological practices that align with modern theories of perception.

Abstract

Every woman wants to be beautiful, with fair skin and a proportional body, as per societal standards. However, the existence of beauty standards makes women forget the true meaning of the word 'beautiful' itself. This research aims to reveal and describe the resistance made by young women in the Vaseline advertisement titled "Minder Dikomentarin Orang Karena Kulitmu? Tonton Ini Dulu!" on the VaselineID YouTube account against beauty standards in Indonesia. A qualitative descriptive method helps the researcher analyze the state, message, and meaning present in the advertisement. The critical discourse analysis theory by Sara Mills focuses on feminist discourse and how women are discriminated against in the Vaseline advertisement video. The results of this study show that self-love is essential, especially for women. Societal beauty standards often cause women to lack self-confidence and feel ungrateful for their strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, women should be free to express themselves and be given the opportunity to pursue their dreams without worrying about the judgments and comments of others.

Abstract

The Puji text by KGPAA Mangkunagara IV contains moral teachings that are important to pass on to the younger generation in order to shape noble character and build a strong personality. This study describes the physical form and composition of the text and analyzes its content using Riffaterre's semiotic approach. The method used is descriptive with a Modern Philology approach, with the primary data source being the Puji text. Data collection was carried out through philological research steps such as transcription, translation, and content analysis based on Riffaterre's semiotic method. The analysis includes four main elements: the discontinuity of poetic expression, heuristic and retroactive or hermeneutic readings, matrix, model, and variant, and the hypogram leading to intertextual relations. The results of the study show that the physical form of the text is a printed Javanese script, while its composition is in the form of a single-metric macapat song, Dhandhanggula. Riffaterre's semiotic analysis reveals that the content of the text includes teachings to always pray sincerely for the safety of one's parents, to ask for God's grace or blessings, and that parents who show love and care for others will receive good rewards.

Abstract

This study analyzes the sufistic metaphors in the song "Puja" by Rhoma Irama using a stylistic spiritual hermeneutic approach. The song’s lyrics convey spiritual messages through metaphorical language that aligns with Sufi teachings, emphasizing themes such as divine love, self-reflection, and the pursuit of spiritual purity. This research aims to uncover how the song’s lyrics reflect Sufi teachings and the relationship between human experience and the divine. A stylistic analysis, including word choice, rhythm, and imagery, is conducted to understand how these elements contribute to conveying the song's spiritual depth. The findings indicate that "Puja" serves not only as a musical piece but also as a spiritual expression with profound value within the context of Indonesian cultural and religious traditions. Through these metaphors, the song enriches the listener’s spiritual journey by encouraging personal reflection and a closer connection with the divine.

Abstract

In the context of continuously evolving education, the utilization of digital technology in Indonesian language learning has become an essential necessity. The development of digital-based media in Indonesian language learning is of utmost importance to enhance the effectiveness and quality of the learning process. This study aims to examine the role of digital media in supporting the achievement of Indonesian language learning objectives in a more engaging, interactive, and effective manner. The research method used in this study is a literature review to collect and analyze various relevant sources related to the development of digital media in education. The findings indicate that the use of digital media can enhance students' learning motivation, support the development of 21st-century skills, and provide broader access to more flexible learning materials. However, challenges related to infrastructure and digital literacy still need to be addressed to fully maximize the potential of digital media. Therefore, developing digital media in alignment with the Merdeka curriculum and the needs of Indonesian language learning is crucial to improving the effectiveness of education in this digital era.
