Abstract

The increasing number of vehicles powered by internal combustion engines in Indonesia has led to a corresponding rise in air pollution. This growing pollution poses significant environmental challenges and directly impacts public health. This study aims to reduce emissions produced by combustion engines, particularly the Suzuki K15B engine, through the application of various octane booster types added to Pertalite fuel (octane rating 90) at concentrations of 0.3%, 0.4%, and 0.5%. Exhaust gas emissions were measured using an Engine Gas Analyzer during the use of both pure Pertalite and Pertalite blended with octane boosters. Each composition was tested three times to ensure data accuracy and reliability. The results revealed that the greatest reduction in carbon monoxide (CO) concentration occurred with a 0.4% addition of Octane Prime, where CO levels decreased from 0.5% to 0.013%. Meanwhile, the most significant reduction in hydrocarbon (HC) emissions was observed with a 0.3% Octane Prime addition, lowering HC levels from 265 ppm to 60.7 ppm. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the appropriate use of octane boosters in Pertalite fuel effectively reduces exhaust gas emissions from combustion engine vehicles

Abstract

Otitis externa is an inflammatory condition of the external ear canal that can result from fungal infection, including Aspergillus niger. Nigella sativa (NS), known for its bioactive compounds, possesses notable anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. This study aimed to evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect of NS extract in an Aspergillus niger–induced rat model of otitis externa. Twenty-four rats were divided into four groups: Sham (healthy control), SW (A. niger–induced, untreated), T10 (treated with 20 mg/mL NS extract), and T20 (treated with 40 mg/mL NS extract). The inflammatory response was assessed histologically using hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining, and quantitative analysis was performed by counting inflammatory cells infiltrating the external ear canal tissue. Administration of NS extract significantly reduced inflammatory cell infiltration compared with the SW group, demonstrating a dose-dependent anti-inflammatory effect. Histopathological examination revealed the lowest number of infiltrating inflammatory cells in the T20 group, followed by T10, while dense inflammatory accumulation was observed in the SW group. Quantitative analysis confirmed a statistically significant reduction in inflammatory cell count in both treatment groups compared with the SW group (p<0.05). These findings indicate that Nigella sativa extract effectively attenuates fungal-induced inflammation in the external ear canal

Abstract

This study aims to examine the strength and durability of natural fiber–based composite materials as environmentally friendly alternatives for automotive structural components. The use of sustainable materials in the automotive industry has become increasingly important due to rising global demands for carbon emission reduction, energy efficiency, and the replacement of high-impact synthetic materials. In this research, three types of natural fibers kenaf, ramie, and bamboo were employed as reinforcement in a polymer matrix. Each composite sample was prepared through fiber mixing, molding, and surface treatment processes to enhance interfacial bonding between phases. Mechanical testing, including tensile, flexural, and impact tests, was conducted to evaluate the material strength. In addition, environmental resistance tests such as water absorption and high-temperature exposure were performed to assess the material’s stability under vehicle operating conditions. The results indicate that kenaf-reinforced composites exhibit the highest tensile and flexural strength, while ramie-based composites demonstrate superior performance in impact testing. Bamboo fiber composites show lower strength values but remain suitable for non-structural automotive applications. All three natural fiber composites present relatively high-water absorption levels; however, these can be reduced through alkaline treatment. Overall, the findings confirm the significant potential of natural fiber composites as environmentally friendly automotive materials. Their competitive performance, lightweight characteristics, and abundant raw material availability make them ideal candidates for non-structural components such as door panels, dashboards, and other interior parts. These results support the advancement of automotive technology toward the utilization of sustainable and eco-conscious materials.

Abstract

Social welfare is an important indicator in assessing a country's socio-economic condition. High economic growth, such as that experienced in Indonesia, shows no evidence of prosperity because empirical evidence indicates unemployment, poverty, and income inequality. Indonesia still prioritizes high economic growth without adequately considering its inclusiveness. These indicate that existing development is not fully inclusive and sustainable. The objectives of this study explicitly account for endogeneity and bidirectional relationships among welfare indicators during the 2019–2023 period. The research method used in this study is a simultaneous panel data approach with two-stage least squares, because the previous discussions were still carried out in a single-equation (one-stage). The best model selected is FE2SLS with FGLS-SUR. The results show that there is a simultaneity between economic growth and unemployment, poverty, and income inequality, and there is only a one-way causality relationship between poverty and income inequality, where poverty affects income inequality but not vice versa. Capital and labor have a positive effect on economic growth. On the other hand, the dominance of the informal sector has a positive effect on unemployment. Meanwhile, the number of social assistance recipients has a negative effect on income inequality. This study provides policies on the strategy development that not only focus on increasing economic growth but also simultaneously alleviate those problems to support the achievement of the 2020-2024 RPJMN targets and SDGs. For the next studies, it can be expanded to the fiscal and monetary policies and doing in-depth regional analysis.

Abstract

The development of information technology encourages Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to adapt to digital-based sales systems. Mandiri Furniture, as one of the MSMEs in the furniture sector, still faces problems in the marketing process, product ordering, and sales data management that are still carried out conventionally, resulting in low efficiency and limited market reach. This study aims to develop an Android-based e-commerce application that can increase sales efficiency and provide system convenience for users and admins. The research method used is the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) with the Waterfall model, which includes the stages of requirements analysis, system design, implementation, testing, and maintenance. The application was developed using the Flutter framework, MySQL database, and PHP as a link between the application and the server. Application Programming Interface (API) integration was carried out to support system functionality, including Stripe as a payment service, RajaOngkir for shipping cost calculations, and Imgur for uploading product images. System testing was carried out using the Blackbox Testing method and showed that all application features ran well on several tested Android devices. The results showed that the application was able to increase the efficiency of the sales process and ease of use of the system with a performance level of 75%. The implications of this research are expected to be a digital solution for MSMEs in increasing competitiveness, expanding market reach, and optimizing sales data management in an integrated manner

Abstract

This study addresses the problem of fragmented, manual, and low-visibility warehouse management in the Technical Service Units (UPT) at Politeknik Astra, which has led to operational inefficiencies and the emergence of dead stock. The objective of this research is to design and implement an integrated Warehouse Management System (WMS) to improve inventory transparency, data accuracy, and operational efficiency. The system was developed using the Scrum methodology through five iterative sprints, each lasting two weeks, involving requirement analysis, system design, implementation, and evaluation. Functional and non-functional testing is performed using Black-box Testing, Integration Testing, and User Acceptance Testing. The results indicate that the developed WMS successfully integrates purchasing requests, goods receiving, picking, borrowing, stock monitoring, and reporting processes into a standardized and real-time system. The system improves inventory visibility, reduces recording errors and duplicate purchasing, and supports faster and more accurate operational decision-making. In addition, the implementation of the WMS generates measurable financial benefits through cost savings in system procurement, training, materials, and warehouse space utilization. This study demonstrates that an integrated WMS developed using Scrum can effectively enhance warehouse management performance in vocational education institutions

Abstract

Tropical cyclones are low-pressure systems with strong wind circulation formed in tropical waters. Tropical Cyclone Seroja (category 2) struck Nusa Tenggara on April 5, 2021, causing more than 150 casualties. This study aims to analyze the dynamics of atmospheric stability indices (K-Index/KI, Total-Totals Index/TTI, and Convective Available Potential Energy/CAPE) during four cyclone phases: pre-formation (April 2), maximum intensification (April 5), early dissipation (April 10), and final phase (April 12, 2021), and compare them with DJF 2017–2021 climatological conditions to identify atmospheric anomalies. ERA-5 reanalysis data with 0.25° × 0.25° resolution were spatially visualized using Python. Results show that KI significantly increased from moderate category (30–32) during the DJF period to strong category (38) during formation and intensification phases (April 2–5), then decreased to weak-moderate (26–35) during dissipation (April 10–12). TTI showed minimal fluctuations (38–44), relatively consistent with the DJF period (39–43). CAPE increased from weak category (500–1000 J/kg) during the DJF period to moderate category with values reaching 1750–2500 J/kg at the cyclone peak (April 5), then weakened during dissipation. It can be concluded that KI and CAPE are responsive indicators of changes in atmospheric instability during Tropical Cyclone Seroja, especially during formation and intensification phases, while TTI tended to be stable compared to climatological conditions

Abstract

The palm oil industry produces solid waste in the form of empty fruit bunches (EFB) and liquid waste known as Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME). This study aims to synthesize an activated carbon composite based on EFB/TiO2 immobilized on polypropylene (PP) polymer and analyze its performance as a POME remediation agent. EFB carbon was activated using a microwave activation method to increase its surface area and adsorptive properties, then composited with TiO2 at 15% of the carbon mass. The resulting composite was then deposited on PP through a thermal milling process at two operating temperatures: 200°C and 220°C. This process causes the PP, which serves as the immobilization medium, to contain the composite on its surface, hereinafter referred to as carcom balls. Test results indicate that carcom balls are capable of reducing Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), and Total Suspended Solids (TSS) in POME. The BOD reduction efficiency of carcom balls at thermal milling temperatures of 200℃ and 220℃ was 36.8% and 41.4%, respectively, while the COD reduction efficiency was recorded at 41.1% and 45.1%. Meanwhile, the TSS reduction efficiency was 41.0% and 41.1%, respectively. Overall, carcom balls produced at 220℃ showed the highest remediation performance against POME.

Abstract

The increasing use of Learning Management Systems (LMS) in digital education raises significant concerns regarding the confidentiality and integrity of learning materials stored and transmitted within the platform. This study proposes a layered security mechanism that integrates cryptography and steganography to protect educational files in an LMS environment. The system implements Base64 encoding for data transformation, Vigenère cipher encryption for key-based protection, Fisher–Yates shuffle for ciphertext randomization, and Least Significant Bit (LSB) steganography to conceal encrypted data within digital images. The proposed method was implemented in a PHP-based LMS prototype and evaluated using learning files in .ppt and .pdf formats as test objects. Encrypted files were embedded into high-resolution cover images with a resolution of 6000 × 4000 pixels. Experimental results show that the system successfully performs the complete processes of encryption, embedding, extraction, and decryption with a 100% integrity success rate, indicating that the original files can be perfectly reconstructed after extraction. Image quality analysis shows high visual imperceptibility with PSNR values above 60 dB and very low MSE values. However, the embedding process introduces storage overhead, resulting in an average file size increase. Abstract

In the world of machinery maintenance, auxiliary equipment is needed that can facilitate work in the field of technology and engineering. Wrench tool are included in the category of hand tools that are often used in the world of maintenance. In the use of wrench tool, there are many problems regarding the design model and strength structure of several types of materials used. In general, wrench tool use Chrome Vanadium Steel (AISI 6150) material. In this study, there is one type of wrench tool that has been modified both in form and function through a project-based learning (PBL) learning scheme. A statistical analysis approach using the finite element method (FEM) was carried out with variations in three types of materials. The types of materials are Chromium-Vanadium Steel (AISI 6150), Chromium-Boron Steel (AISI O1), and ASSAB DF2 Steel. ASSAB DF2 Steel material shows the most optimal mechanical characteristics, in terms of stress value of 10.13 MPa, low displacement of 0.029 mm, a high safety factor, with a value of 68.1, and the longest fatigue life with 3.76 × 10⁵ cycles. Therefore, the combination of the new design and ASSAB DF2 Steel material is considered the most suitable for application to wrench tool that require strength, security, and long-term durability as the most effective solution to improve the structural performance and reliability of wrench tool based on simulation results using SolidWorks software
