Abstract

This paper aims to describe linguistic phenomena in Arabic as seen from general linguistic theories. Based on the universal nature of language, the unique of a language system can be analyzed using external approaches outside of it. By this comparative method, novelty can be found frequently and encourage the development of a theory. The method used is descriptive and comparative. Descriptive methods are used to describe general linguistic theories. The comparative method is used to find the similarities of the two linguistic systems, especially at the syntactic and morphological levels. Several conclusions were drawn. First, at the syntactic level, Arabic has a system that is not much different from the system in general linguistics. Several syntactic theories in general linguistics such as transitivity theory, X-Bar Theory, Theta Theory and Case Theory can be found in Arabic equivalent. Second, in its morphological system, Arabic also has the same word formation processes such as Affixation, Acronym, Conversion, Back Formation, Clipping, Blending, Compounding, Borrowing, and Coinage.

Abstract

Risālah At-Tawābi' wa Az-Zawābi' is an Andalusian literary work that combines prose and poetry. This treatise contains Ibn Syuhaid's poetry juxtaposed with the poetry of other poets, including jāhilī poets, such as Umruul Qais, Ṭarafah bin Al-Abd, and Qais bin Al-Khātim. This research examines Ibn Syuhaid's poetry in juxtaposition with the three jāhilī poets using Riffaterre's intertextual approach, which considers the important role of the reader in providing meaning of the poetry. To understand the meaning of a poem, the reader must find the intertext that forms the poem's shape. The Ibn Syuhaid poem which is the formal data in this research is entitled Fī Madḥi Yahya Al-Mu'talī, fi Washfi Riḥlah Aṣ-Ṣaydi and fī madīḥ Abī Marwān. This research was carried out to find the intertextual form of Ibn Syuhaid's transformational poetry with the actual hypograms juxtaposed with him in the Risālah At-Tawābi' wa Az-Zawābi'. The methodology used in this research is intertextual by determining the matrix, model, and variants in the transformation poem and the hypograms that are juxtaposed with it.

Abstract

This study explores the historical development of strange words or gārīb al-Ḥadīṡ and the criteria used by early scholars in selecting them. It examines how social and cultural contexts influenced the methodologies of these scholars and proposes updating classical frameworks to better support non-Arabic-speaking communities in understanding the intended meanings of strange words in the hadiths. The research is grounded not only in sociocultural theories of language and knowledge acquisition, but also in adapting traditional criteria to align with contemporary social developments. The study concludes that the expansion of what is considered garīb was shaped by the integrative interactions among diverse populations following the Islamic conquests, as Arabs came into contact with non-Arab peoples—such as the Byzantines, Abyssinians, and others—continuing through to the present day. It further argues that suitable criteria for non-Arabic speakers should involve interpretive translation that ensures clear explanation and contextualization of the meanings of obscure terms, based on classical gārīb al-Ḥadīṡ sources. In some cases, integrating aspects of Arab cultural context may also contribute to a deeper and more accurate understanding.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to determine the relevance of Taufiq Ismail's poem "Qira'atul-'Alamat," which appears in a collection of poems titled "Turab Fawqa Turab." To reveal the poem's relevance, the meaning of the poem text must first be revealed through heuristic and hermeneutic readings within the framework of semiotic theory, which is a discipline that examines the signs on an object to determine the meaning described in it. These symbols can be found in the text "Qira’tul-‘Alamat" A qualitative descriptive method was chosen to reveal the results of this study. A qualitative descriptive method was chosen to reveal the results of this study. The results of this study revealed that the poetry data has meaning, indicating that humans should always be self-aware, interpret God's signs, and reflect on their actions, attitudes, and words. Man 'amila shaliha falinafsih, wa man sa-a fa'alaiha is thus the foundation of a true life. Humans have previously been shown signs of the presence of an event in order to plan alternative choices that are in compliance with religious teachings and life norms, in expressing words or thinking about, and implemented in everyday life.

Abstract

This paper addresses the following question: In what ways do Israel and the UAE construct their shared religious identity and provide religious legitimacy through and for the Abraham Accords? Using interpretive-qualitative methods and guided by constructivism, this paper draws on primary and secondary sources. The findings reveal that both countries constructed their shared identity as fellow Abrahamic communities by naming their agreement after Abraham and through joint statements. Furthermore, three steps were taken to legitimize the Abraham Accords. First, both countries linked the Abraham Accords to the Abrahamic norms and teachings. Second, the UAE government cited Qur’anic verses and worked with religious authorities for domestic legitimacy. Third, the Israeli government strategically seeks international legitimacy by linking the Abraham Accords to Jewish primordial sentiment to secure broader international political support. Lastly, this paper argues that the UAE utilized the Abraham Accords to strengthen its moderate identity, whereas Israel used it to empower the global Jewish community. This study contributes to Abraham Accords discourse by emphasizing religion’s role and its intersection with international politics.

Abstract

This article will generally examine the naming convention of small objects lexemes (ism tagīr) in the Al-Munawwir Arabic-Indonesian dictionary. The approach used in this study is a linguistic approach, especially closely related to morphosemantics. In this case, the morphosemantic study involves the study of the structure and meaning of the lexeme in relation to small objects or what is commonly referred to in Arabic as ism taṣgīr. The research method consists of three important stages, such as: (1) the data collection and analysis using the observation method of linguistic units in the form of "words" in the al-Munawwir dictionary, (2) the data analysis used distributional methods in the form of techniques for direct elements and contrasting techniques, and (3) reports on results related to the rules for naming small objects in Arabic. The results of this study are expected to provide new insights on the relationship between morphological word formation in Arabic and naming rules in Semantic studies.

Abstract

Print media advertisements generally uses two displays, verbal displays accompanied by nonverbal. In nonverbal displays, it includes the use of paralingual elements. This study wants to reveal the meaning contained in nonverbal elements in commercial advertisements in Egyptian print media (Ikomcemes) in the form of paralingal. The goal is to find out the integration of the elements that form a complete discourse so that the meaning and message of the advertising discourse can be understood.  This research data was collected from various newspapers, flayers, and magazines published in Egypt. Furthermore, the data is classified using the method of sorting the elements of the two elements as Leech's concept. The research findings are in the form of types of composition of elements that make up an advertising discourse, and then the findings are analyzed by utilizing the theory of discourse analysis and semiotics. The use of these two theories is not only to examine the meaning of the verbal text but also to examine simultaneously with the context that frames it. The results can be stated that although nonverbal elements do not have diverse patterns, their existence is very necessary to understand the message conveyed by advertisers, both verbal and noverbal.

Abstract

During the decade following the Arab Spring and the Yemeni Revolution, significant changes and dynamics occurred in Yemen, particularly in the realms of politics and security. The current situation can be categorized as "stable" due to the absence of escalating conflicts between the parties involved. However, the cessation of hostilities between the Houthi rebels and the Yemeni government, supported by a coalition of Arab countries, has the potential to create new challenges. Additionally, the ongoing humanitarian crisis resulting from the Yemeni conflict continues to require international attention. Despite considerable attention given to the current state of Yemen, there is a lack of scholarly research utilizing scientific literature to examine the condition of Yemen a decade after the revolution. Consequently, this article aims to review the Yemeni Revolution after ten years, using relevant publications from 2012 to 2022 obtained through Google Scholar and the Publish or Perish application. The data will be visualized using the Vosviewer application as a basis for analysis. The findings of this research reveal the complex conditions underlying the ten-year conflict that emerged in the aftermath of the Yemeni Revolution, characterized by multifaceted conflicts interrelated with various factors that have prolonged the crisis.
