Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of information on the dangers of smoking on cigarette packets and perceptions of the decision to purchase cigarette products. The population of this study are active smokers, aged 18-40 years, and live in Semarang. The theory used are the Cognitive Response Theory and the Transaction Utility Theory. The sampling technique used non-probability sampling technique with a total sample 100 respondents. Data analysis for the hypothesis used simple linear regression analysis. Data processing uses the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) Version 16.0. The results of the hyphotesis showed that the respondents have high product purchasing decisions. The significance value for the information on the dangers of smoking on cigarette packs variable (X1), and the price perception variable (X2) which is 0,866 and 0,594, which means that there is no influence on the decision to buy cigarette products (Y). So, the researcher suggests to the government that the policy of warning information on the dangers of smoking on cigarette packs and the increase in cigarette excise is deemed ineffective in controlling cigarette purchasing decisions. In the next studies, it is suggested to use other factors that can influence the purchase of cigarette products.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is based on the problem of the many unfavorable views of the people of Tawangsari village towards people with disabilities, where people with disabilities are still often underestimated by many people. Not only that, most families there consider people with disabilities to be a disgrace that must be hidden even from their families. PT. Pertamina TBBM Boyolali wants to turn the village under its guidance into an inclusive village, this can be supported through a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity with a special community empowerment program for people with disabilities called CSR Difablepreneur. The purpose of this study was to determine how the Difablepreneur program activities carried out by PT. Pertamina TBBM Boyolali through CSR, using qualitative research methods. This research refers to the constructivism paradigm with a case study approach. The data collection techniques used in this study were in-depth interviews, observation and literature study. And the theory used in this research is legitimacy theory by Gary O'Donovan, institutional theory, stakeholder theory, general system theory by Ludwig von Bertalanffy, and symbolic interaction theory by George Herbert Mead. Based on the results of this study, in carrying out the CSR Difablepreneur program activities there are 5 components in it, namely building human capital, strengthening economies, assessing social chesion, encouraging good governance, protecting the environment. Of the five components, Pertamina is able to generate a good reputation. This reputation is formed from the strong perceptions of stakeholders on company performance and performance. Thus providing opportunities for companies to be able to get positive recognition from the community. In addition, the CSR Difablepreneur activities can also influence public attitudes. Where it is built from information obtained through mass media or other communication channels. This information will build awareness that Pertamina has a high level of concern for the social and economic quality of local communities. A good attitude reduces the risk of the emergence of negative public opinion, suppresses the potential for protest, sabotage and even an attitude of public anti-terrorism, so that the company's goals are achieved.

Abstract

Bahasa Lampung as a cultural identity is facing the threat of extinction which is marked by the infrequent use of the language in its own land, that is Lampung Province. The use of Bahasa Lampung was cut off in the older generation, while the younger generations have begun to leave the use of Bahasa Lampung. In addition, the cultural heterogeneity that exists in Lampung Province makes the use of Bahasa Indonesia becomes a solution so the communications among different ethnics may happen. This has made the use of the national language increases, while the use of Bahasa Lampung is abandoned. However, in the midst of the extinction threat to Bahasa Lampung, there are areas such as Pardasuka that still maintain the use of Bahasa Lampung. The use of Bahasa Lampung is maintained by children and adults.This study aims to describe the identity negotiation of Lampungese ethnic in the effort of maintaining Bahasa Lampung as a cultural identity. This study also aims to describe the perceptions of the non-Lampung ethnic community about the identity negotiation of Lampungese Ethnic in the effort of maintaining Bahasa Lampung as a cultural identity. This study is a qualitative research that uses a constructivism paradigm with a phenomenological approach. The theory used in this research is the Identity Negotiation Theory by Stella Ting-Toomey. The results of this study were obtained through in-depth interviews to 6 informants, consisting of 3 Lampungese ethnic informants and 3 non-Lampung ethnic informants. In addition, the research results were also obtained from direct observation activities conducted by researcher at the research location, which is Pardasuka.The results showed that the identity negotiation of Lampungese Ethnic is carried out in four forms. First, the formation of identity in the family environment carried out by parents to their children. Second, the application of social punishment in the community by giving some humiliations and an exclusion for anyone who leaves the use of Bahasa Lampung. Third, the application of symbolic efforts, such as giving cultural titles and using Bahasa Lampung as signs in public facilities. Fourth, organizing cultural themed events which display literatures of Bahasa Lampung such as rhymes and poetry. On the other hand, the non-Lampung ethnic groups as immigrants show several forms of response to the efforts of Identity Negotiation of Lampungese Ethnic as an accommodation effort. One of the efforts is done by doing an assimilation to accept all Lampungese cultural identities, especially Bahasa Lampung and eliminating the identity of their origin ethnic. In addition, some of the immigrants also carry out an acculturation effort by obtaining some aspects of cultural identity, especially Bahasa Lampung without eliminating the identity of their origin ethnic. In the assimilation and acculturation efforts, non-Lampungese ethnics as migrants try to mingle with Lampungese ethnic society to acquire Bahasa Lampung as a cultural identity.

Abstract

Fintech lending in Indonesia is one of the innovations in financial products and services that has been present in the past 5 years in Indonesia to provide assistance in accessing consumer consumptive funds via smartphones. However, the use of fintech lending that are not balanced with sufficient knowledge in the use of fintech lending causes new problems to form due to user misunderstandings which lead to a high risk of using them to cause casualties. Several ways to increase public knowledge are through online loan information in online media and discussions in the online loan facebook group. This also relates to the habits of Indonesian people who seek information on financial products and services using the Internet. This study aims to see whether there is a relationship between exposure to online loan information and E-WOM in the online loan Facebook group and the level of public knowledge in the use of fintech lending. This research is a quantitative type. The sample in this study were 100 people with the criteria of men or women aged 19-34 years, had seen / read online loan information in online media in the last month, and had read / been active in discussions on online loan facebook groups in the last month. Based on the research results, the variables of information exposure and e-wom exposure have a significant relationship to the level of public knowledge in the use of fintech lending. This is obtained from the results of the significance test of the two hypotheses carried out . In addition, the two independent variables also have a positive relationship with the variable the higher the community is exposed to information / exposure to e-wom, the higher the level of knowledge. However, although the relationship between the two independent variables and the variable can be said to be positive and significant, the two independent variables have a weak closeness to the variable assessed from the values shown.

Abstract

Adjustment is an important thing for every individual, including a student. Student data from the Nurul Hikmah Islamic Boarding School (PPMNH) shows that there are students who leave before completing their education at the pesantren. This is due to the low adjustment ability of PPMNH students. This study aims to determine the relationship between the level of communication anxiety and self-concept with the students’ adaptability. This research uses quantitative methods. The population of this study were students of the PPMNH in 2019. The sample was determined using a random sampling technique and a total sample of 98 people was obtained. The theories used in this study are Uncertainty Reduction Theory (URT) and Anxiety Uncertainty Management (AUM) Theory. The results show that the level of communication apprehension has negative correlation with students’ adapability and self-concept has positive correlation with students’ adaptability. Student’s adaptability will increases when the level of communication apprehension is lower and self-concept is higher.

Abstract

The high level of use of YouTube to view hypebeast review videos can increase the tendency of consumers to behave consumptively towards hypebeast items, because the media is related to the public's mind in receiving information or products that are displayed, one of them through hypebeast review videos on Youtube. A person's desire to appear the same as what is seen from the media encourages consumptive behavior. The desire to be part of the environment, especially in the peer group causes teens to try to follow the trend and the problem is when it is done excessively so that there is a waste and a purchase on the basis of desires not needs that are outside of material capacity. This study aims to determine the Relationship Intensity of Accessing Yoshiolo Youtube Post and Peergroup Communication Intensity with Consumptive Behavior in Fashion in Adolescents in Semarang. Theories used in this research are the Stimulus and Response Theory and Social Exchange Theory. This research is a quantitative research with explanatory type. Researchers used a non-probability sampling technique with a total sample of 60 people aged 18-22 years in the city of Semarang who had seen Yoshiolo's youtube shows and interacted with his peer group. Based on the hypothesis test conducted using Kendall's Tau correlation analysis, it shows that there is a positive relationship in the intensity variable accessing Yoshiolo's youtube postings with the consumptive behavior in fashion in adolescents in Semarang of 0.615 with a significance value of 0,000. Variable intensity of peer group communication with consumptive behavior in fashion in adolescents in Semarang shows a positive relationship with a correlation number of 0.622 and a significance value of 0,000. Field of Fashion in Teenagers in Semarang. With these results, it is recommended to the audience to be more careful in sorting out which information will be digested.

Abstract

This research based on the increasing popularity of multiple accounts consisted of real and anonymous accounts on Instagram among teenagers. Anonymity involved various aspects that generate both positive and negative effects because of the vagueness of an anonymous account. The vagueness of the anonymous account varied between freedom of expression to cyberbullying. The purpose of this research is to analyze the difference between the usage of real and anonymous account as well as the motivation behind the anonymous account. This qualitative descriptive research uses a post-positivist paradigm and content analysis to compare the anonymous and real account of Instagram. Followed by an in-depth interview to understand the experience and motive to use an anonymous account. The concept of Online Disinhibition Effect applied in this research to see positive and negative behavior behind the use anonymous account. The findings show that the anonymity that exists in teen anonymous accounts is not full anonymity, but pseudonym account instead. This pseudonym account becomes an arena for the creation of identity by choosing an identity that is considered to have a certain meaning. However, on anonymous accounts the uploaded content has varied tones namely happy, sad, annoyed tones, compared to the real account which is only dominated by happy tones. In addition, it was found that the reason teens use anonymous accounts because of freedom of expression including better self-disclosure, avoiding mixing of content displayed by Instagram algorithm, protecting privacy on the real account, and as a opportunity for cyberstalking another Instagram users.

Abstract

The dilemmatic problems experienced by female dancers of Ratoh Jaroe became the background of this study. On one side, they got the chances to be able to perform publicly. However, on the other side, there are rules about how they should perform. The purpose of this research is to understand the meaning of stage communication by the female dancers of Ratoh Jaroe. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods. Performance studies by Richard Schechner, Cultural Schema Theory by William Gudykunst and Identity Negotiation Theory by Stella Ting-Toomey are the theories used in this research. The results of this research shows that the dancers experienced the stage communication process that occured before, during, and after the performances. Ratoh Jaroe dancers interpreted their dances as the form of entertainment, advice and as the existence of women's identity, religion’s identity and culture’s identity. Furthermore, Ratoh Jaroe emphasizes the existence of female dancers as a form of women power with their roles to express themselves on stage or in public. However, the existence of Ratoh Jaroe as the product of Aceh’ culture requires the dancers to be mindful towards the existing repressions.

Abstract

This research is written to discuss romantic relationship ta'aruf in the process of decision-making marriage who have communication constraints that inhibit the escalation process of relationships from strangers into intimates. Ta'aruf has its own relationship development process in order to create a positive, optimistic, and open relationship in the division of roles. The short process and the presence of a mediator who helps establishing communication between partners make the process of relationship development to foster love become hampered, as well as the emergence of conflict between the two parties. This study aims to determine how couples experience in the process of developing relationships ta'aruf for decision-making marriage or not through phenomenological approach. This research uses the foundation of Relationship Development Stages in a Committed Relationship, the concept of Self Disclosure, Relational Dialectic Theory. The data collection technique used is in-depth interview with the research subject of four ta'aruf couples consisting of two couples who were successfully married and two couples who failed to marry from the ta'aruf process.The results of this study revealed romantic relationship in ta'aruf couples have their own peculiarities because in the development of the relationship they refer to the teachings of Islam which limit the overflow of excessive love and love before marriage. There is a mediator who is trusted by ta'aruf couples as a bridge of communication where communication competence is relied on in guiding, mediating the ta'aruf couples when faced with conflicts. Although in the process the mediator inhibits the exclusion of the couples’ relationship ta'aruf, but the informants respond to this limitation with a positive attitude. In the process of introducing committed romantic relationship to the ta'aruf couples, it is observed at the stage of contact, involvement, intimacy. The decision-making for ta’aruf couples to marry or not is based on alternative choices that are considered good and bad by individuals and referral groups.

Abstract

Family communication can be changed when one family member, such as parents, either father or mother, is involved in a criminal case and goes to the Correctional Institution. The background of the study is the problems experienced by the prisoners' family that have an obstacle in communicating between parents and children with the limited communication facilities, and the negative impacts of parents' detention towards children. This study aims to give a reference from experience in relationship maintenance between children and parents with prisoners status in the Correctional Institution using the interpretive paradigm and a phenomenological approach. The data collection technique used was an in-depth interview. The theory used in this study was the Relationship Maintenance Theory. The results of the study reveal that in this case, parents have a strategy in having relationship maintenance by emphasizing on fun interaction strategy, guaranteed commitment, mutual support, affection, and good conflict management. The intensity of communication conducted by the prisoners and children is relatively low, but the prisoners realize the importance of maintaining communication quality. The openness conducted by the parents is limited to criminal cases and try to protect the child's feeling by making a positive atmosphere during the interaction. Parents build perceptions for their children to accept the cases. The children prove that parents' criminal cases do not impact education by giving support and affection to the parents while serving a detention period in the Correctional Institution. The children try to understand the conditions between parents, so the relationship is stable and maintained.
