Abstract

Aḥkam Tafsir refers to the interpretation of Qur'anic verses related to Islamic law, playing a crucial role in shaping the understanding of legal principles and practices among Muslims. Historical figures such as Al-ṭaḥawi have contributed significantly with their works, including Aḥkam al-Qur'an, which explains the foundational principles of Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) in the Qur'an, particularly regarding the concept of ṭaharah (purification). The discussion of ṭaharah verses in this context aims to uncover new perspectives from Al-ṭaḥawi's interpretation in Aḥkam al-Qur'an. This study employs a library research method, focusing on the book Aḥkam al-Qur'an as the secondary object of research. The findings from the analysis of Aḥkam al-Qur'an by Abu Ja'far Al-ṭaḥawian expert in hadith and fiqh reveal that the ṭaharah verses are interpreted in a detailed manner, supported by clear sources and the opinions of other scholars.

Abstract

Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) is a contemporary psychological phenomenon characterized by pervasive anxiety that others are having rewarding experiences that one does not possess. This phenomenon shows similarities with the concept of zuyyina in the Qur'an, which describes psychological mechanisms where worldly objects appear more attractive than their actual reality. This study aims to analyze the relevance between FoMO and the zuyyina concept through Self-Determination Theory (SDT) perspective and explore practical implications for developing integrative interventions. The research employs a qualitative approach with semantic and comparative analysis, integrating in-depth analysis of the zuyyina concept with empirical findings on FoMO from contemporary psychological research. Results reveal significant convergence between zuyyina and FoMO in four main dimensions: attraction to external stimuli, social comparison dynamics, impact on attention and priorities, and affective anxiety components. SDT proves to be an effective theoretical framework for understanding how both phenomena interact with basic human psychological needs. This research contributes to developing an interdisciplinary analytical framework and opens opportunities for developing integrative interventions that combine traditional spiritual insights with contemporary psychology to address digital era mental health challenges.

Abstract

This study explores the epistemological dialectic between Aisyah Abdurrahman’s literary exegesis and Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd’s hermeneutics as two modern intellectual projects in understanding the Qur’an. The research aims to identify how both methods contribute to the reconstruction of Qur’anic interpretation in the contemporary era and their implications for Islamic intellectual civilization. Using a qualitative library research method, the study analyzes primary tsexts al-Tafsīr al-Bayānī li al-Qur’ān al-Karīm and Mafhūm al-Naṣṣ through a comparative-descriptive approach. The findings reveal that Aisyah Abdurrahman emphasizes the linguistic purity of revelation as a form of harmony between language, faith, and reason, while Abu Zayd situates the Qur’an within a historical and cultural framework that highlights its humanistic dimensions. The dialectic between both reflects a dynamic interaction between revelation and reason, preserving the balance between transcendence and contextual interpretation. This study concludes that Qur’anic interpretation should integrate textual sanctity, rational analysis, and cultural to sustain the continuity of Islamic knowledge and civilization.

Abstract

This paper aims to explain the shift in Islamic studies in the West by describing H.A.R. Gibb's thoughts on the originality of the Qur'an. This study uses a descriptive-analytical method that can assist researchers in answering research questions. The research data sources consist of primary and secondary data. The primary data is Gibb's book entitled Mohammedanism, while the secondary data consists of scientific literature relevant to the research theme. The results of the study show that Gibb's approach to examining the originality of the Qur'an uses two approaches, namely: first, an Arabic grammatical approach that applies Eastern scholarship, which can be seen in Gibb's study of linguistic analysis and the context of the Qur'anic verses. Second, a historical approach, as the use of Western scholarship, can be seen in Gibb's description of the transmission and codification of revelation during the time of the Prophet Muhammad, the Khulafa Rasydun, and in the periods thereafter. These two approaches are important mechanisms in Gibb's study of the originality of the Qur'an.

Abstract

The concept of Khalifah (Caliphate/Vicegerency) in the Qur'an holds a fundamental position as a moral and theological mandate for humanity to be the steward of the Earth, not its absolute owner. This mandate is realized through the task of isti‘mār, which is the constructive development and prosperity of the Earth, yet still within the limits of mizan the principle of cosmic balance that encompasses both ecological and social dimensions. Violations of this principle result in fasad, or corruption on land and sea, which is a direct consequence of the misuse of human power. This study employs a thematic tafsir (exegesis) approach by examining both classical and contemporary interpretations. Classical tafsir, such as the works of al-Ṭabari, al-Qurṭubi, and Ibn Kathir, emphasize humanity's theological and moral responsibility to Allah. In contrast, contemporary tafsir from scholars like Fazlur Rahman Quraish Shihab, Fazlun Khalid, Seyyed Hossein Nasr, and Ziauddin Sardar interprets the concept within the context of ecological ethics and sustainable development. The integration of these perspectives demonstrates that ecological responsibility is an integral part of the khalifah trusteeship. Consequently, the current global environmental crisis can be seen as a form of modern humanity's failure to maintain the mizan and fulfill the role of khalifah as stipulated in the Qur'an.

Abstract

Islamic ethics of consumption has become increasingly important in the modern era, as contemporary consumption patterns are shaped by materialistic tendencies and excessive lifestyles that contribute to social and ecological degradation. This study aims to examine the value of moderation in consumption as articulated in Qur’an Surah al-Furqan verse 67 and to explore its relevance to contemporary consumer challenges. Using a thematic tafsir analysis that integrates insights from both classical and contemporary exegetes, this research highlights the prohibition of israf and tabdzir as well as the affirmation of balance as foundational principles for responsible consumption. The findings indicate that the verse provides not only moral–spiritual guidance but also a practical ethical framework for resource management and the regulation of modern consumer behavior. The novelty of this study lies in its direct linkage between Qur’anic moderation and today’s ecological and social challenges, demonstrating that Qur’anic ethics of consumption offers strategic implications for shaping sustainable lifestyles.

Abstract

This study examines the variations in translating the preposition min in the Qur’an into the Palembang language. The preposition min is one of the most frequently occurring particles in the Qur’an and carries diverse meanings depending on the verse context, namely Ibtida’ Zaman wa Makan (beginning of time and place), Tab‘id (partitive), Bayan lil Jinsi (specification of type), and Badal (substitution). This research employs a library research method with a documentation approach, collecting primary data from the Qur’anic text and its Palembang translation published by the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs in 2019, as well as secondary data from books, journals, and related studies. Data analysis was conducted interactively through data reduction, presentation, and verification to draw conclusions. The results indicate that the translation of min into Palembang not only preserves the accuracy of the Qur’anic meaning but also adapts to the local linguistic structures and cultural norms. The translation variations use appropriate equivalents in Palembang alus (refined language) and seari-ari (everyday language), ensuring effective communication for readers. Moreover, this study emphasizes the importance of linguistic and cultural approaches in Qur’anic translation to convey divine messages accurately, contextually, and meaningfully, while contributing to the preservation of Palembang language and culture. This research is expected to serve as a reference for translators, scholars, and religious education practitioners in developing local translations that remain faithful to the original meaning of the Qur’an.

Abstract

Gender bias in leadership has become an important issue in public discourse, especially in relation to Guru Gembul's statement on his YouTube channel that the differences in the leadership styles of Sri Mulyani and Purbaya are due to gender. The main problem that arises is the public's tendency to accept this view without realizing that it represents gender bias that continues to be produced through digital media. This study aims to correct this understanding based on the gender interpretations of Husein Muhammad and Faqihuddin Abdul Kodir, so that gender bias does not become more widespread in society. The method used is a comparative study of the interpretations of the two scholars, using an interpretive and gender analysis approach. The results of the study show that the assumption of the natural superiority of men contradicts the character of the language of the Qur'an according to Husein Muhammad, while QS. An-Nisā': 34 according to Faqihuddin Abdul Kodir does not reject the involvement of women in leadership as long as they have adequate capacity and competence. In conclusion, leadership should be understood contextually and based on the principle of maṣlaḥah ‘āmmah, emphasizing public interest, cooperation, and gender equality. An important implication of this study is that public discourse and digital content can be corrected through fair interpretation, opening up equal opportunities for women and men in leadership.
