Abstract

Women are always interested in making themselves look good. Looking good here means not only physically, but also characteristically. They need self actualization in their association. Mostly, women who are older than 25 years old and have already had good jobs choose to live in urban areas. The obsession of trying various things automatically increases. The things are, for example, social relationship, urban lifestyle, and shopping activities. When women are somehow in a situation where they receive their paychecks and suddenly some advertisements show a fifty percent discount for all items whose deadline last in a week, a very triggering question emerges: what are they going to do? This is a very tough query, particularly for those who have problem in differentiating between actual necessities and temporary desires.

Abstract

Sebuah seri terbaik karya Sir Arthur Conan Doyle yang berjudul The Final Problem merupakan satu dari beberapa seri The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes. Novel ini menceritakan tentang Sherlock Holmes, seorang detektif fiksi yang diciptakan oleh Doyle sebagai tokoh utama sekaligus tokoh aplikasi bagi ilmu deduktif yang merupakan ilmu yang dipelajari oleh Doyle selama hidupnya.Tujuan penulisan tugas akhir ini adalah untuk mengungkap tema utama secara umum dan mendeskripsikan kelebihan serta kelemahan novel The Final Problem secara khusus. Dalam pembahasan project ini, penulis menggunakan metode penelitian perpustakaan dan internet untuk menganalisis plot serta memaparkan beberapa kelebihan dan kelemahan yang dimiliki novel The Final Problem. Berdasarkan hasil seluruh analisis, penulis menyimpulkan bahwa novel The Final Problem lebih unik dari 7 seri terbaik Doyle dikarenakan penggunaan metode deduksi yang lebih banyak. Metode deduksi digunakan oleh para lulusan akademi kedokteran yang merupakan tempat Doyle pernah mengenyam pendidikan dan mengabdikan beberapa tahun hidupnya.

Abstract

Twitter is one of the media used by people to share their thoughts, to communicate, and torespond to others. Since Twitter users tend to communicate using spoken language, we canfind some new words created in order to make the communication more comfortable.Thepurpose of this study is to identify the word formation processes on twitter statuses ofIndonesian dangdut singers. This study uses Non-Participant Observation Method to collectthe data along with Reflective Introspective Identity and Translational Method to analyze thedata. The finding of this research shows 35 words from 11 twitter accounts that were analyzedin terms of the process of word formation. The processes that occurred are Derivation,Blending, Borrowing, Clipping and Acronym. Of these processes, borrowing is the mostcommon process of word formation found in the twitter statuses of dangdut singers becausethe singers tend to follow trend from Western since the borrowing words are mostly fromEnglish.

Abstract

Novel is a part of literatur that the reader will receive knowledge from novel. A Good Woman is one of the best seller novel that establised in 2008 by Danielle Steel, published by Random House on October 2008. This research will analyze the structural elements from novel A Good Woman and analyze the struggle of life of Annabelle Worthington, her dignity and her courage through psychological approach. Based on the analysis and discussion, we can conclue that The structural elements of A Good Womannovel take setting in 1912’s, with Annabelle Worthington as the protagonist, who has a strong character, smart and remarkable woman. Annabelle Worthington has a great story of struggle for life, dignity and courage in Danielle Steel’s A Good Woman.The 'id' and the 'superego' are constantly in conflict with each other, and the 'ego' tries to resolve the discord. If this conflict is not resolved, we tend to use defense mechanisms to reduce our anxieties. Psychoanalysis attempts to help patients resolve their inner conflicts. Annabelle has ‘id’ and ‘superego’ so she involved conflict with another, especially her struggle for life and dignity. As she learn from her past and make a new life and relationship in France, she become a remarkable woman who did not tied in a marriage and can accept all the risk and take the chance in flowing the life.

Abstract

The poem entitled “Out, Out” is a poem which was written by American poet Robert Frost in the 19 th century which is set in New England. This poem tells the story of a young boy who suddenly dies after accidentally cuts his hand with a saw. The poem focuses on people's reactions to death, as well as the death itself. The aims of this thesis are to describe the intrinsic and extrinsic elements, which explain about death. The writer used two methods to compile the data; they are library research and structural approach. To get the needed data namely theories about death and moral values, the writer used library research. Meanwhile, structural approach is used by her to support the analysis in her thesis. The writer takes intrinsic and extrinsic aspects todescribe figurative language, imagery, tone, theme and explain about people’s reactions to death especially sudden death that happen to the boy in the poem. Finally, the writer concludes that Frost explains that death may occur suddenly and without warning and as a human being, we must continue our lives even in theface of tragedy.

Abstract

This final project analysis Gayle Forman’s novel entitled: If I Stay. The purpose of this final project is to analysis the behaviour change of the main character, Mia Hall. The study uses psychological approach and library research to analyse the behaviour change of the main character. Mia experiences three phases of behaviour change: unfreezing phase, movement phase and refreezing phase of Mia. Mia changes her behaviour and the social environment affect Mia’s behaviour change. Mia’s change is planned change. However, Mia decides not to change her behaviour permanently.

Abstract

Tujuan penulis project ini adalah untuk menganalisis dan menjelaskan tipe dan faktor Campur Kode dan Alih Kode yang terjadi dalam novel Ranah 3 Warna karya Ahmad Fuadi. Ini adalah penelitian Deskriptif Kualitatif yang menganalisis data berupa tuturan karakter dalam novel Ranah 3 Warna sebagai sumber data yang diambil menggunakan teknik Sampling Purposive untuk memilih tuturan yang mengandung Campur Kode atau Alih Kode. Penulis kemudian menggunakan Metode Padan untuk menganalisa tuturan sehingga menemukan adanya dua tipe Campur Kode, yakni Campur Kode Luar dan Campur Kode Dalam dalam enam bahasa. Selain itu, ditemukan pula adanya dua tipe Alih Kode, yakni Alih Kode Internal dan Alih Kode Eksternal dalam empat bahasa. Faktor yang mendorong penutur untuk melakukan Alih Kode atau Campur Kode adalah tujuan penutur, latar belakang penutur, latar belakang lawan bicara dan kutipan opini orang lain.

Abstract

Perkembangan aspek bahasa merupakan salah satu hal yang menandai kemajuan zaman. Bahasa merupakan alat komunikasi manusia yang terangkai dari kalimat-kalimat dimana kalimat merupakan rangkaian dari kata-kata. Perkembangan aspek bahasa ditunjukkan oleh banyaknya kata baru yang terbentuk yang diperoleh dari berbagai aspek dimana salah satunya berasal dari bidang teknik sipil. Kata-kata baru ini umumnya berupa istilah yang dapat berasal dari berbagai bahasa. Selanjutnya, merupakan tugas para penerjemah untuk menerjemahkan istilah-istilah yang berasal dari berbagai bahasa tersebut agar dapat dipergunakan oleh para insinyur teknik sipil yang belum tentu menguasai banyak bahasa. Oleh karena itu, melalui penelitian ini, penulis bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi istilah-istilah teknik sipil berbahasa inggris pada bab 9 dalam modul Mastering Different Fields of Civil Engineering Works dengan analisis pembentukan kata sehingga diperoleh suatu metode penerjemahan, khususnya dalam menerjemahkan istilah-istilah dalam bidang teknik sipil. Dalam penelitian ini, penulis menerapkan beberapa teori dari dua pendekatan Linguistik, Morfologi dan Semantik, untuk menganalisis data. Dari pendekatan Morfologi, penulis menerapkan teori tentang morpheme, root, base, stem, affix dan word formation dari Nida (1949), Katamba (1993), dan O’Grady and Guzman (1996). Kemudian, dari pendekatan Semantik, penulis menerapkan teori tentang naming, concept, referent dan sense relation dari Palmer (1981) dan Chaer (1994). Selanjutnya, sebagai hasil dari analisis yang telah dilakukan, penulis menyimpulkan bahwa sebagian besar istilah dibentuk melalui proses derivasi dan sebagian lainnya dibentuk melalui proses endocentric compounding dan proses konversi. Selain itu, penulis memeroleh bahwa pelekatan akhiran –ing dan –ed pada verb dapat membentuk kata baru melalui proses derivasi karena pelekatan akhiran –ing merubah kelas kata verb menjadi adjective atau noun dan pelekatan akhiran –ed merubah kelas kata verb menjadi adjective.
