Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has several negative impacts for undergraduate students, namely confusion in choosing a career and low career maturity. This study aims to determine the relationship between adversity quotient and career maturity among undergraduate students during the Covid-19 pandemic. The number of respondents in this study were 120 active undergraduate students aged 18-23 years across all semester levels at universities on the island of Java. There are 33 male students and 87 female students. This research uses a quantitative (correlational) research design. The sampling technique of this research is convenience sampling. The instrument measurements used in this research were Career Maturity Inventory Screening Form S (α = 0.709) and Adversity Quotient Scale (α = 0.761). The results of this study explained that there was a significant positive relationship between adversity quotient and career maturity in undergraduate students. The correlation coefficient value obtained was r = 0.283 and p = 0.001 (p < 0.05). This indicates that there is a significant positive relationship indicated by the strength of the weak relationship between the adversity quotient and undergraduate student career maturity during the Covid-19 pandemic, so there are still other factors that have not been tested yet in this study that may play a more role in increasing career maturity. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the research hypothesis is accepted. Intercorrelation data analysis between aspects, different tests, and demographic correlation tests (gender, semester level, internship/training experience, and parents' career direction) will be discussed further.

Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, lectures are held using online platforms. The online courses are challenging for students. To face these challenges, students need academic resilience. This study aimed to determine the role of academic resilience in students during online learning. This study uses a systematic literature review method by reviewing research articles from 2012-2021 published in Crossref, Google Scholar, and Scopus. The key words used to extract records were: “Academic Resilience” AND “Online Learning” OR “E-Learning” AND “Students” OR “College” OR “University”. All 904 articles were filtered using the Rayyan application, and 11 relevant articles were extracted for further review. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines was used for the study design. The characteristics of the articles reviewed are in English, research participants are students, use quantitative and qualitative research designs, and focus on students' academic resilience in online learning. From the 11 articles reviewed, it was concluded that academic resilience appears to play an essential role in online learning. Academic resilience enables students to have higher motivation in overcoming difficulties faced in the online course, be able to survive under pressure and be able to find the solutions to academic problems, demonstrate better academic performance, easily bounce back, plan the learning process, show greater involvement and academic achievement, as well as explore relevant information during online course. In addition, academic resilience is more likely to improve social competence and academic adjustment.

Abstract

This review aims to understand the evidence of factors and impacts on the family burden in caretaking families of schizophrenic individuals in Asia. The family burden is a problem commonly found in many families worldwide, especially those of schizophrenic individuals among family members. Schizophrenic individuals portray specific dan severe symptoms, having a particular impact on the caretaking family. Responsibility for taking care of the schizophrenic individual makes the family feel either a subjective or objective burden. As a global issue, the family burden is closely related to the cultural context of each country. Values passed on for generations certainly influence individuals' attitudes and behaviour, including dealing with family burdens. The current review uses the scoping review step to discover psychological models in the family burden of caretaking families of schizophrenic individuals and is limited to Asia only. The inclusion criteria using the Populations, Concept, and Context (PCC framework). Populations for this review are families with schizophrenic family members, the Concept is the family burden or caregiver burden, and the Context is narrowed down to Asian countries. The exclusion criteria are the caregiver of individuals with mental illness, living in countries outside Asia, focusing on relapse models in non-family member schizophrenic individuals, speaking languages other than English and Bahasa Indonesia, and articles issued outside 2000 – 2020. There are five steps of methods in the current scoping review: (1) identifying the research question by PCC, (2) identifying the evidence, (3) study selection, ''charting the data'' (extracting the evidence), (4) data synthesis based on critical issues narratively, and (5) collating, summarizing and reporting the results. The results showed that the family's experience while caring for the schizophrenic individual is related to the family burden. The family burden is physical, psychological, emotional, social experiences, and financial problems that the family goes through because of their responsibility in caring for the schizophrenic individual.

Abstract

Juvenile delinquency is a behavior carried out by adolescents by ignoring social values that apply in society. The behavior that appears in adolescents cannot be separated from how parental assistance is given to adolescents. Parental support is the support given by parents in several aspects, namely attention, finance, and information, in order to maximize the potential of adolescents so that they can develop optimally. This study aims to determine the effect of parental support on the tendency of delinquent behavior in adolescents in East Java. The method used is correlational with a sample involving 294 adolescents (aged 13-16 years) taken at random. Data collection uses the perceived parental support (PPS) scale (Alfgeir, 2010) and juvenile delinquency measurement (Syariful et al., 2020). The results show that parental support affects the tendency of delinquent behavior in adolescents with a p-value = 0.000 (<0.05), with the largest influence on informational support, 0.835, and the lowest on financial support, 0.423. The conclusion is that informational support and attention have a strong influence on the tendency of juvenile delinquency behavior, meaning that the higher the parental support, the lower the juvenile delinquency behavior.

Abstract

Approximately 15% to 20% of the older adult population worldwide are affected by mild cognitive impairment (MCI). It is characterized by deterioration in cognitive function including memory, attention, executive function, visuospatial, or language ability. This condition leads to dementia. Therefore, cognitive training is needed to enhance cognitive function. Most cognitive training programs are conducted in conventional way. Virtual reality (VR) is a potential tool to improve cognitive function. VR is a computer-generated simulation of three- dimensional environment that gives the users a sense of presence. This meta-analysis study aimed to determine the effectiveness of VR training in improving cognitive function of older adults with MCI in comparison to conventional training. A systematic search for randomized control trials in five electronic databases yielded 18 studies with 858 participants. A random-effects analysis estimated medium effect sizes for VR training compared to conventional training in overall cognitive function outcomes (g = 0.38, 95% CI 0.04;0.71) and global cognition (g = 0.73, 95% CI 0.29;1.17). A comparison of VR and conventional training did not show significantly different effect sizes in memory (g = 0.20, 95% CI - 0.39;0.79), executive function (g = -0.26, 95% CI -0.83;0.31), and visuospatial (g = 0.45, 95% CI -0.21;1.10). These results indicate that VR training is more effective than conventional training in improving overall cognitive function and global cognition of older adults with MCI. On the other hand, VR and conventional training have equal effectiveness in improving memory, executive function, and visuospatial abilities of older adults with MCI.
