Abstract

In the dry season, increasing temperatures cause high soil temperatures, low soil moisture and can result in soil loss of water through evaporation. Thus, the growth of red chili plants is less than optimal. One of the cultivation techniques that can increase red chili production is by modifying the microclimate around the plant by using mulch. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of silver black plastic mulch with various forms of beds on the growth of red chili plants, so that it can be seen that the use of silver black plastic mulch is suitable for use on red chili plants. The research was carried out in the Afdeling 2 Plantation area, Kec. Blade (West Kab. Labuhanbatu. In October 2021 to April 2022. This study used a Randomized Block Design (RAK). The study used a factor of 4 treatments of different types of beds in the use of silver black plastic mulch which consisted of no black silver plastic mulch with a convex shape. , without black silver plastic mulch flat shape, with black silver plastic mulch convex shape, with black silver plastic plastic mulch flat shape repeated 5 times so that 20 experimental units are obtained. Abstract

Pests are animals that damage crops and generally harm farmers from an economic perspective, so humans will always pay attention to them, in order to increase agricultural yields, otherwise the yields will decrease. The purpose of this study was to analyze and describe the temporal distribution of arthropods on purslane (Portulaca oleracea L.) on red chili farms, Afdeling II Village, West Bilah Subdistrict, Labuhanbatu Regency. This research method is descriptive exploratory research with a quantitative approach. This is to describe and analyze the temporal distribution of arthropods in purslane (Portulaca oleracea L.). Data was observed from the arrival of arthropods at a predetermined time, namely three 3 observation times, including: time I (07.00-08.00), time II (12.00-13.00), and time III (16.00-17.00) for 10 minutes. Each time the observation was repeated 4 times. The results of this study showed that the daily visits of arthropods at 12.00-13.00 were higher than the daily visits at 07.00-08.00 and 16.00-17.00. Each family of arthropods has a different level of daily visits at each time of arrival which is caused by internal factors (physiological, reproductive ability, life cycle, age) and external factors (physical factors, food, temperature and humidity). The daily visit frequency of this arthropod indicates that purslane (Portulaca oleracea L.) is a habitat for arthropods and can be used as a refugia plant

Abstract

Watering is an important activity as a plant growth process in order to survive. Determination of plant water needs is important to do, because plant water needs are the main limiting factor for plant productivity. Plant water needs can be determined based on the value of water content in the field capacity of the growing media. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of different volumes of watering on increasing growth and production of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.). The study was carried out for 7 days with 3 treatments of watering volume, with each treatment carried out 6 times. The treatment tested was giving a different volume of water to each lettuce plant with three levels. Observations in this study were leaf cross-sectional area, number of leaves, and plant fresh weight. Experimental research with a qualitative descriptive approach and statistical data processing with the Kruskal Wallis Test. The results of data analysis showed that there was a relationship between the size of the volume of water in watering and the growth of lettuce plants

Abstract

Red chili pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) is one of the most economically important horticultural commodities and is continuously demanded by the community. One of the major challenges in chili cultivation, particularly during the dry season, is the increase in soil temperature and the decrease in soil moisture, which lead to greater water loss through evaporation. These conditions can inhibit plant growth and reduce crop productivity. One approach to improving the field microclimate is the use of silver-black plastic mulch combined with an appropriate bed configuration. This study aimed to analyze the effect of silver-black plastic mulch applied to different bed configurations on the growth of red chili pepper plants. The research was conducted at Afdeling II Plantation, Bilah Barat District, Labuhanbatu Regency, from October 2021 to April 2022. The experiment employed a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with a single factor consisting of four treatments and five replications, resulting in a total of 20 experimental units. The results showed that the application of silver-black plastic mulch with different bed configurations significantly affected plant height, number of leaves, and leaf area at 4, 6, and 8 weeks after planting (WAP). The best performance was obtained from the treatment using silver-black plastic mulch on flat planting beds, which produced average plant heights of 21.00 cm at 2 WAP, 40.25 cm at 4 WAP, 53.88 cm at 6 WAP, and 65.92 cm at 8 WAP. This treatment also resulted in the highest number of leaves, with averages of 10.85 leaves at 2 WAP, 30.80 leaves at 4 WAP, 87.25 leaves at 6 WAP, and 113.15 leaves at 8 WAP. Therefore, the use of silver-black plastic mulch on flat planting beds is recommended as an effective cultivation technique to enhance the vegetative growth of red chili pepper plants.

Abstract

The Indonesian shortfin eel (Anguilla bicolor) is a member of the family Anguillidae with a wide distribution across tropical and subtropical regions. Its flesh is rich in protein, vitamins, fatty acids, trace elements, and essential nutrients. One of the key factors contributing to eel health is the balance of the gut microbiota, which plays an important role in food digestion, nutrient absorption, and immune function. This study aimed to investigate the bacterial diversity in the digestive tract of wild eel elvers. Gut microbiota diversity was analyzed using 16S rRNA metagenomic sequencing through Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology. Digestive tract samples, extending from the esophagus to the anus, with a total weight of approximately 100 mg (0.1 g), were collected from 50 wild elver-stage eels obtained from Giri Mekar Village. The bacterial diversity data were analyzed using the Shannon–Wiener Diversity Index. The results showed that the gut microbiota of wild eel elvers was predominantly composed of the phyla Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, and Bacteroidetes. The dominant bacterial classes were Clostridia and Bacteroidia. The most abundant genera included Lactobacillus, Pseudomonas, Arenimonas, Parasutterella, Proteus, Aeromonas, and several unclassified bacterial taxa.

Abstract

Eels are catadromous fish species that undergo four life phases, namely Leptocephalus, Glass eels, Elvers and Fingerlings in freshwater and marine environments. Eel is an export commodity that is widely cultivated. However, the problem of eel cultivation arises in the form of diseases caused by pathogenic bacteria, especially those that attack the digestive tract. There have not been many studies on the abundance of pathogenic bacteria in the digestive tract of eel, so this study aimed to analyze the abundance of pathogenic bacteria in the digestive tract of eel (Anguilla bicolor bicolor) in the Elver phase (wild and cultivated) and Fingerling. The method used in this study is a literature study using secondary data in the form of identification of pathogenic bacteria and data on the abundance of pathogenic bacteria in the life phase of eel obtained from the research of Kusumawaty et al (2020). All data obtained were analyzed descriptively. The results of the study found that the highest abundance of pathogenic bacteria found in the digestive tract in the Elver and Fingerling phases came from the genera Aeromonas, Pseudomonas, Streptococcus and Vibrio, respectively, while the species found were Aeromonas caviae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Streptococcus agalactiae. The highest abundance of pathogenic bacteria was in the Elver phase (Elver wild and Elver cultivated) while the lowest abundance was in the Fingerling phase. The difference in aquatic environmental conditions in the two phases is a factor causing the difference in the abundance of pathogenic bacteria in the digestive tract of the Anguilla bicolor bicolor, mainly because the immune system and digestive system of the Elver have not yet developed, so they are susceptible to disease

Abstract

Ethylene gas is produced by horticultural products, namely climacteric fruit that can continue to undergo a ripening process even though it has been harvested from the tree. Ethylene produced by plants has a dual role in controlling growth as well as aging in plants. The fruit ripening process is suppressed by controlling ethylene production and plant sensitivity to ethylene. This study aimed to identify the effect of ethylene produced by tomatoes on weight loss and color change in Muli bananas after harvesting. The method used was by grouping two treatments, namely treatment A as control (bananas), and treatment B (bananas together with tomatoes) and placed in a container such as cardboard, stored at room temperature for 5 days. The results showed that the ethylene contained in tomatoes accelerated the ripening of muli bananas in the form of weight loss and even color changes in the muli banana peels compared to storage that did not use tomatoes.
