Abstract

We conducted a community learning program on Mathematics and Physics tutoring based on simple experiments in Dusun Malangrejo and Dusun Temanggal II, Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta. The activities applied a participatory, collaborative, and experiment-based approach designed to be structured and highly interactive, to improve primary school students’ interest, understanding, and learning motivation in Mathematics and Physics. The program was implemented by a multidisciplinary team of lecturers and student volunteers from the Physics Education and Mathematics Education programs. The tutoring sessions were carried out from February to May 2025 in both locations. During the implementation, students were invited to engage in simple, safe experiments aligned with their grade level, followed by short discussions to connect the activities with concepts taught at school. Attendance records showed an average of seven participants per meeting in Malangrejo and 14 participants in Temanggal II. Based on field observations and informal feedback, students showed higher enthusiasm during hands-on sessions and reported that science and mathematics lessons felt more relatable and easier to understand after joining the program.

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to improve the division arithmetic operation ability of Grade IV and V students at SDN 28 Tumbang Titi through the use of a Division Counting Board learning medium. The activity involved KKN students as facilitators and was conducted over two meetings during mathematics class hours. The method consisted of three stages: preparation (observation, module development, and media creation), implementation (pre-test, media demonstration, group discussion, and post-test), and monitoring and evaluation. The effectiveness of the program was measured using the Normalized Gain (N-Gain) formula. Results showed that Grade IV achieved an average N-Gain of 58,75 and Grade V achieved 0,40, both falling in the high category. Of 15 total participants, 6,67% were in the high-improvement category, 86,67% in the medium category, and 6,67% in the low category. These findings indicate that the use of concrete manipulative media significantly improved students' understanding of division concepts and can serve as a replicable model for similar community service programs in other schools.

Abstract

In producing briquettes, the industry has problems in drying its briquettes. During this time briquette drying always involves solar energy. Drying with solar energy has weaknesses, namely (a) the ability to dry briquettes for a long time, cannot be accelerated (b) in the rainy season, solar energy is difficult to rely on, so the production capacity of briquettes per day decreases (c) to produce briquettes with large capacity, requiring a lot of raw material availability. These three weaknesses can be overcome if the briquette drying is done by using an electric energy briquette dryer. By using electric energy drying, the development of the briquette industry can be easily carried out. The purpose of this service implementation is to assist the human resources (HR) of the two briquette industry partners to increase, have complete knowledge of the electric energy briquette drying machine and use briquette drying machines to develop the industry. The results of the implementation of this service are (a) both partners know the briquette drying machine well and have the ability to make and function the electric energy briquette dryer (b) the two partners have a clear understanding to increase the briquette production capacity and determine all requirements and steps must be done to achieve production capacity as desired.

Abstract

Modern information systems can be used to optimize and streamline business processes that exist in a company or organization. By using a well-designed information system, many benefits can be obtained by a company or organization. The information system began to be applied to the community line, and has even been widely used as a media link between the regional government to the central government and the related community. This service is an application of the information system design that was previously made by the proposal team, used as a media complaint by the community to the government department in the Somagede Village area, Banyumas Regency, which utilized the basis of a website application or known as cloud application, which was more effective and efficient compared to conventional community based complaints systems using paper format. The community can provide criticisms, suggestions, or information about the environment surrounding the officials of the Village of Somagede using an internet connection so they can access this complaint information system. This information system is designed to make it easier for Somagede District officials to process aspirations and complaints from the community.

Abstract

There existed several problems that occur in several vocational schools related to the results of the implementation of the learning. In some vocational schools majoring in automotive, it was found that: (a) understanding and mastering the material of the car air conditioning system in students was still incomplete and not yet in-depth. (b) students still had difficulty understanding the air conditioning system on the car (c) there is no solution yet to make it easier for students to understand the car's air conditioning system in a complete and in-depth manner. The purpose of this service is to help overcome these problems. The training is intended for teachers, laboratory assistants and vocational students in the automotive department. The methods used were: training, demo, question and answer and joint discussion. The result of this service was an increase in the competence of teachers, laboratory staff and students. Teachers and laboratory assistants: (a) have a more complete and in-depth understanding of air conditioning systems (b) have the ability to design, make/assemble and produce props for air conditioning systems in cars (c) have the ability to develop/innovate in assembling conditioning systems air on the car. Students: (a) get a more complete and in-depth understanding of the material of the air conditioning system in the car (b) it is easier to get an understanding of the air conditioning system material in the car on the car by using the air conditioning system display equipment in the car. Other results of this service were (a) obtaining appropriate technology in the form of visual aids for car conditioning systems and (b) learning methods that facilitate understanding of air conditioning systems in cars.

Abstract

The present paper is a report of two activities of community service on developing students literacy at Sarikarya Elementary School in Yogyakarta on 20 October 2017 and 11 May 2018. The activities sprout from the result of the research conducted in the same school in August 2017 to find out to what extent the children from class 1 to class 6 make progress in their writing of a descriptive text. By using the result of our research as the basic material for our community service, we had a discussion with the teachers so that they would be more aware of the literacy competence of their students, and by so doing they could help their students develop their students literacy in writing. This community service also aims to discuss with teachers what kind of activities could be carried out in class to support the development.

Abstract

The purpose of this training was to facilitate elementary school teachers in Sanjaya Elementary School Tritis, Pakem so that they were able to provide learning media for Natural and Social Sciences. The learning media was a set of equipment that could be used as learning media to help teachers deliver lessons to the students so that students were motivated to learn. Media that could be used should be helpful for the students to understand the concept of learning, be suitable with the characteristics of the students, and facilitate the students to obtain the learning objectives, as well as appropriate with the learning condition, facilities and time availability. This training was directed in such a way that the teachers in that school became creative in utilizing objects around them to teach Natural and Social Sciences. Games were also used to teach Mathematics.

Abstract

Cooperatives are one of the pillars of the Indonesian economy aimed at promoting the welfare of members and society. The dominant forms of cooperatives in Surakarta City are the Savings and Loans cooperative (KSP) and the Savings and Loans Unit (USP) whose activities are similar to Rural Banks, but in practice it turns out that they lack the precautionary principle and risk management. The scope of KSP / USP is very limited because it can only accept deposits or provide loans to members / prospective members. The implementation of this service is in the form of risk management training so that KSP / USP management can increase knowledge about the importance of the precautionary principle in its management. Implementation method of service through training for 2 (two) days in collaboration with the PPUPIK-PPKU Semarang University and the Surakarta City Cooperatives & SMEs Office. The result of dedication is the increase in understanding and ability of the management in managing the risk of deposit and lending activities, for example in calculating and converting interest rates, as well as in establishing reserves for uncollectible loans, analyzing and binding credit agreements.

Abstract

Sexual education is importantly needed in giving students adequate knowledge on how important it is to take care of their reproductive organs and to raise an understanding of moral values about sexuality problems. In the other hand, as a fact, teachers and parents often give abstract explanation when children ask about sexuality. Based on the data from Komnas Perlindungan Anak, the fact shows that in January to June 2013, there were 1.032 violence cases done to children. These cases were divided into two: 294 physical violence cases and 241 psychological violence cases. The aim of this social service program was to conduct a practice of sexual education counseling for students in SD Kanisius Sengkan. The sexual education counseling process was done through Ignatian Pedagogy Paradigm (reflective) learning process. The results from the sexual education counseling done to students in SD Kanisius Sengkan showed that 69% of male and female students understood the sexual education given and knew how to take care of their body, 100% of male students and 94% of female students were able to take care of their body after they were given the sexual education counseling, 69% of male students and 80% of female students got the benefit from the sexual education counseling conducted.

Abstract

Waste management can be an economic value activity. Waste that is considered useless can be recycled into products that have economic values. Garbage Bank Rukun Santoso is a community empowerment activity in Klaten Regency that has attempted to use waste to be processed into creative products. At this time, the Rukun Santoso Garbage Bank has used plastic waste to be processed into creative products that have improved the economy of the local people, especially from the income of women. This type of paper waste is currently not utilized to be processed into creative products. This community service activity is intended to provide training in the creation of creative products made from paper waste, so that it can be used by the Rukun Santoso community to supplement family income.
