Abstract

Excessive gadget use in early childhood can negatively affect their motor, social, and emotional development. Based on a survey conducted at GKJ Condongcatur, 60% of parents reported signs of gadget dependency in their children, such as crying when the gadget was taken away and difficulty concentrating. The community service activity titled “Healthy Gadgets for Great Kids” aimed to increase Sunday School children’s understanding of healthy gadget use while encouraging active play and social interaction. The methods used included interactive education activities through read-aloud storytelling and educational games such as assembling puzzles, flashcards, daily schedule clocks, and playing “Simon Says”. The results showed children’s understanding of screen time limits, recognition of good and bad behaviors, and awareness of alternative activities such as outdoor play and helping parents. Children also demonstrated high enthusiasm and interaction with these educational activities. This program shows potential as a community education model to foster healthy digital awareness from an early age.

Abstract

The problem of household waste management in Indonesia, particularly in Pengasinan subdistrict, Depok City, is still characterized by low public awareness in sorting organic and inorganic waste and a lack of supporting facilities. This community service research aims to instill public awareness in waste sorting through a participatory approach. The method used is Participatory Action Research (PAR) with the stages of observation, reflection, action planning, socialization-education actions, and evaluation for one month in 33 residents of RT 007/RW 010. The results showed that before the intervention, most residents mixed waste, threw it into the gutter, or burned waste due to limited knowledge and facilities. After socialization with the village and DLHK (Environment and Sanitation Agency), there was an increase in understanding and behavioral changes, especially among housewives who began to sort waste at the household level. However, the sustainability of the practice is still hampered by the lack of infrastructure, such as segregated waste bins and waste banks. It was concluded that the PAR method is effective in increasing public awareness and practice of waste sorting, but the sustainability of behavioral changes is highly dependent on the support of local government facilities and policies.

Abstract

The community service activity was carried out in response to the high number of cases of medication misuse among children, with initial surveys showing that 65% of 4th-5th grade elementary school students in Kediri had taken medication without adult supervision, and 80% did not understand basic dosage rules. The programme, involving 44 students from SDN Bujel 3 Elementary School in Kediri City, was designed to improve health literacy through the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method, comprising three main stages: (1) initial assessment via a pre-test, (2) intervention in the form of interactive education and demonstrations on how to read medication labels, and (3) evaluation using a post-test and observation of skills. Based on the pre-test and post-test analyses, there was a 45% increase in participants' understanding, with only 40% of students correctly answering questions about medication dosages in the pre-test, increasing to 85% in the post-test. Based on these findings, it was concluded that the PAR approach effectively improved students' understanding and skills. For sustainability, the following recommendations were made: (1) developing digital modules, (2) involving parents in follow-up programmes, and (3) strengthening teachers' capacity through training as school health facilitators to ensure programme sustainability. This activity demonstrates that participatory health education can create sustainable behavioural change in school-age children.

Abstract

The development of information and communication technology in the digital era has made social media platforms like TikTok an effective tool for product marketing. However, in Rogoselo Village, Pekalongan Regency, this potential has not been optimally utilized due to three main problems: low digital literacy among students, limited access to digital marketing information, and the absence of training programs that guide the use of TikTok for productive purposes. Therefore, this community service activity was designed to improve students' understanding and skills in utilizing TikTok as a digital marketing tool to promote local potential. The training was conducted using a combination of presentation and practical methods. Presentation was used to convey theoretical material, while the practical method was used to practice creating TikTok content to promote the participants' products. The training results showed a significant increase in skills: out of 18 participants, the number who answered “Yes” increased by about 10 on average (ranging from 10 to 11 across the five evaluation items), indicating improved understanding and ability to use TikTok for digital marketing purposes. Challenges in the training, such as limited internet access, were overcome by providing portable hotspots. The conclusion of this activity confirmed that the training successfully improved participants' digital literacy and technical skills and opened up opportunities for developing a digital-based creative economy in Rogoselo Village.

Abstract

The education sector demands artificial intelligence technology to promote the advancement of academic governance applications and learning methods. An AI-powered digital attendance system is among the technological solutions planned for introduction in this community service initiative. To date, students and educational staff within vocational secondary schools, particularly in Cibening, have not fully acquired practical knowledge of how to utilize this technology. This gap has also created challenges in academic and instructional activities, as they often face inaccurate attendance records of students and teachers when reporting academic results. Therefore, providing training and support for the adoption of this digital attendance system is critically important for participants within this program's framework. The implementation method of this community program was carried out in stages, beginning with the delivery of instructional material, followed by system demonstrations, and culminating in hands-on practice. The training content was structured into three components: foundational knowledge, an introduction to the digital attendance system, and hardware-software training. The results indicate that students’ understanding of AI increased by 34%, while their practical skills improved by 36%. The achievements of this community program are expected to contribute positively to administrative governance and academic learning processes in vocational schools.

Abstract

This Community Service Program (PKM) aims to educate waste bank managers in Sleman Regency about the importance of financial management and record-keeping. The community service program (PKM) was held at the Pendopo of the Sleman Regent's Official Residence. The meeting was attended by 57 waste bank managers in Sleman Regency, who are members of the Independent Waste Management Network (JPSM). The service was delivered through education on managing a waste bank from managerial and financial perspectives. Next, a Q&A session was held with the participants to discuss their experiences with recording and managing their finances. The findings showed that they still face many challenges in human resources and financial management because most of them work voluntarily. The discussion also revealed that members often overlook administrative procedures, for example, forgetting to bring their waste savings book, making proper recording difficult. In addition, regarding financial management, not all members make good financial reports, as they still see it as a time-consuming task. Most participants need a technology-based recording method to complete the recording process more quickly and accurately.

The Python mentoring program was conducted at Muhammadiyah 9 Junior High School, Yogyakarta, and was attended by 29 eighth-grade students. The program was conducted through several stages, namely planning, preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The results show that this mentoring had a positive influence on students' abilities and interest in mathematics learning technology. Students also learned coding using the Python 3.13.2 computer programming language. Based on the post-mentoring questionnaire results, 95% of the students reported becoming more confident and self-assured in using Python for mathematics learning. This mentoring also succeeded in training students' critical thinking and mathematical logic skills. In addition, student participation increased because they did direct practice, not just learning theories.
