Abstract

Humankind inherently desires a better life than that being enjoyed at a particular time. To achieve this, resources from the environment, which are unfortunately finite are exploited. Meanwhile, the population, if not deliberately controlled, or reduced by disasters such as earthquakes and diseases, can grow in geometric progression. In an organized society, the resources are exploited through MSMEs (micro-small and medium enterprises). These dominate production and distribution processes for products and delivery of services. The author argues that despite the important roles in economies regardless of whether they are developed or not, MSMEs also contribute to a great extent to the destruction of the environment, which ironically supports their activities. Among efforts by the global community to address the threat to the environment posed by humans through their MSMEs are the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and then replaced by the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are expected to be achieved by 2030.

Abstract

The goal of this study is to determine how Islamic finance mechanisms like Zakat and Waqf have influenced the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Nigeria. Today, both developed and developing nations recognized the significant contributions MSMEs made to their economies, their populations' social and economic advancement, and the stabilization of security measures. Due to the collapse of the international oil market and Nigeria's economic slump, real efforts to establish MSMEs have made a significant contribution to lowering unemployment rates, creating wealth, and reducing poverty among the populace in Nigeria. To establish long-term alternative methods of financing the MSMEs for their sustainable development in Nigeria, the impact of Islamic finance models of Zakat and Waqf are recognized on the growth of micro and small businesses even though they are still not widely used in Nigeria as tools for business development despite their applicability according to Islamic shariah. In order to collect data for the study, a qualitative methodology was employed through Primary sources that include a survey of pertinent literature, and secondary sources that include interviews with pertinent participants who had varied viewpoints on the topic. The research supported the claim that the growth of MSMEs using Islamic finance models of Zakat and Waqf points in the right direction for MSMEs’ promotion and development in Nigeria. The research also suggests using the Zakat and Waqf funds as part of a new plan to work with both internal and foreign investors to develop models and methods of funding MSMEs that are more successful, reduce the rate of poverty and unemployment in Nigeria, and it can be relevant to all regions throughout the world.

Abstract

In the twenty-first century, the globe has made major advancements in science, technology, medicine, travel, education, and practically every other aspect of existence. Living habits and interpersonal relationships have also changed as a result of these changes. On the other side, the arrival of the COVID-19 outbreak provoked a backlash against these changes. The epidemic has ruined small firms in addition to affecting socio-economic ties and advancement in many different professions. Even at the most basic levels, the pandemic had an impact on the manufacturers and retailers in Assam's smaller towns and districts. A community's identity was intended to be established through the introduction of ethnic food, which is also a cultural identity, as well as through the commercialization of Bodo ethnic food in order to generate income. Although there were limited economic benefits when commercialization first started, it did bring in money for those involved in this small business. But the Covid-19 outbreak and the ensuing lockdown have stopped people from purchasing and selling things, which has an impact on supply and demand as well as profit and loss. The overarching goal of the study is to examine the factors that affect small enterprises' economic revenue from Bodo ethnic culinary cuisines during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the impact of cash holdings and capital structure on the financial performance of listed real estate firms in the Hochiminh Stock Exchange (HSX). Financial performance is measured by return on equity (ROE). Cash holdings are measured by cash and cash equivalents divided by total assets. Capital structure is measured by debt-to-equity ratio. The study uses balanced panel data from 25 real estate firms from 2017 to 2022 with 149 observations and OLS regression methods. The results show a positive linear effect between the cash holdings ratio and the return on equity, while the capital structure does not impact the financial performance. From the research results, the authors also make recommendations to optimize financial performance, and solutions to choose the optimal capital structure and optimal cash holding of the real estate firms.

Abstract

By analyzing the secondary data, the adoption and utilization of ICT and Digital Technologies (DT) have emerged as key factors in their competitiveness and performance in Turkey. Here are some key findings: Larger driving enterprises tend to have higher technology adoption rates, and there is increasing awareness among MSMEs about the need for digital transformation. MSMEs in Turkey are becoming more aware of the importance of technology adoption and digital transformation for competitiveness. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated digitalization and increased the use of digital platforms, such as e-commerce and digital banking. E-commerce marketplace websites or apps are preferred over enterprises' own websites or applications for e- sales due to convenience, customer reach, and advertising campaigns.

Abstract

In the context of increasingly fierce competition, retaining customers as well as promoting repurchase behavior is the foundation for companies to create and maintain sustainable business performance. Therefore, customer loyalty is considered an essential goal for the existence and development of every business. Building a loyal customer base has become a major goal in marketing programs (Karyose et al., 2017) and is considered an important goal for the survival and growth of a business. It is also an important basis for developing a sustainable competitive advantage, where the life insurance industry is no exception (Ruefenacht, 2018). Although the existing service marketing literature has extensively studied customer loyalty and revealed several customer loyalty premises, such as the discovery of trust (Van Tonder, 2016), customer value (Ishaq, 2012), service value (Li and Green, 2011), and most notably, satisfaction (Akbar and Parvez, 2009). However, studies that specifically address such loyalty in relation to the features of the insurance sector are scarce (Guillen et al., 2012). This study aims to explore the relationship between customer satisfaction and customer loyalty in the life insurance sector with the mediating variables of trust. The research results are the premise to propose solutions to promote customer loyalty as well as increase the intention and behavior of buying life insurance in Vietnam today.

Abstract

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) have been a driving force in poverty alleviation. One of the key areas of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is poverty alleviation. Poverty is a major problem in Nigeria and one of the ways to alleviate poverty is through deliberate job creation through SMEs. The dimension of poverty alleviation in the SDGs goals has been an area where SMEs have played a pivotal role. This paper reviewed SMEs’ role in realizing the SDGs. Many challenges affect how we can better achieve SDGs as highlighted in this paper. The factors that affected our poor performance during the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) which include unmanageable population, pervasive poverty, ignorance and superstition, religious dogmatism, corruption and economic mismanagement, lack of political will, and authenticity of collected data are still largely within Nigeria. It was concluded that SMEs should be empowered in other to help achieve the SDGs in Nigeria.

Abstract

The COVID-19 catastrophe has had an unimaginable effect on education. It has slowed the pursuit of educational targets although has distressed the vulnerable the most. Even so, the academic sector has shown resiliency in setting the foundation for recovery by switching from personalized education systems to distance learning. However, for a nation like India, which is not well-versed in information and communication technology developments, this is not a viable option. Furthermore, the current disparity of internet connectivity between rural poor and superior families in cities makes it a herculean challenge. Thus, becomes crucial to discover a diverse landscape of a digital divide to strengthen efforts to bridge the gap for disadvantaged citizens.

Abstract

The real-life instances call for new perspectives about stimulating SMEs' success and increasing their involvement in Global Value Chains. Although it is hard to isolate typical SME patterns across sectors and regions. SMEs must have exposure to GvCs linked with green innovative services. Following the development of Green Technology e.g. AI, SMEs may significantly contribute to equitable and inclusive transformations and encourage sustainable business operations. Precisely it is the result of greater awareness and access to data, business circles, technology at our fingertips, and human capital improvements. The primary finding of this study is that small and medium-sized enterprises that sustain themselves in the face of strong global competition are likely to see their operations develop over time. The key aspect of achievement remains chain- wide partnerships.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of green innovation and ownership structure on green innovation. The ownership structure is proxied by managerial ownership and institutional ownership. The type of data used is secondary data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2018 - 2021. The population of this study are companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The sampling technique used purposive sampling with the following criteria: mining sector companies and non-state-owned companies. State-owned companies were excluded from the sample because state-owned companies if they experience funding difficulties, will generally be given an injection of funds from the government. The dependent variable is corporate financial constraints. The independent variables are green innovation, managerial ownership, and institutional ownership. The results show that green innovation and institutional ownership positively affect financial constraints, while managerial ownership negatively affects financial constraints. The managerial implication of this research is that in the short term, the implementation of green innovation for companies increases financing constrain because companies need funds to finance the implementation of green innovation.
