Abstract

Bronchitis refers to a symptom in which the bronchi become inflamed or swollen. Worldwide, the prevalence of chronic bronchitis is estimated to be 3 to 7% in healthy adults. Bronchitis is caused by prolonged exposure to harmful particles or gases and exposure to cigarette smoke. Besides smoking, allergy is also one of the risk factors for bronchitis. Allergies are caused by allergens that can cause inflammation and irritation of the airways. This study aims to determine the relationship between smoking and allergy with the incidence of acute bronchitis at the age of 20-40 years. The research method was observational analytic with a cross-sectional approach involving 76 patients with confirmed acute bronchitis. Data utilized include both primary and secondary sources, with validated questionnaires used to assess smoking habit, allergy, and severity of acute bronchitis. Data analysis employs the chi-square test with a significance set at < 0.05. The prevalence of mild smoking is 63.2% allergy is 50%, and moderate acute bronchitis is 30.3% There is a significant relationship between smoking (p= 0.006) and allergy (p=0.010) and the incidence of acute bronchitis

Abstract

The quality of life, as defined by the World Health Organization, is more than just physical health; it encompasses psychological well-being, social relationships, and the environment around us. Self-care, life motivation, and quality of life are interdependent and closely related. Good self-care helps maintain the energy and health necessary to achieve life goals. Strong life motivation encourages individuals to take care of themselves to reach their goals, and both contribute to an improved overall quality of life. Heart failure can significantly reduce a patient's quality of life. However, self-care and life motivation can help control the condition, maintain body function, and improve overall quality of life. Good self-care can prevent recurrence and help keep the condition stable, while life motivation can make patients more enthusiastic and optimistic in facing their condition. With high motivation, patients tend to engage in more activities they enjoy, resulting in an improved quality of life. This study aims to evaluate the relationship between self-care, motivation, and quality of life in heart failure patients. The study involved 74 heart failure patients, and the Minnesota Living with Heart Failure Questionnaire was utilized to determine the quality of life. The Self-Care of Heart Failure Index was used to measure self-care ability, whereas a motivation questionnaire was used to assess their motivation. The study found a significant relationship between self-care (p=0.003) and motivation (p=0.045) with quality of life.

Abstract

Eustachian Tube Dysfunction occurred due to pressure dysregulation of the middle ear leading to negative pressure within the tympanic cavity. This syndrome may be due to intrinsic factor such as anatomical anomaly (cleft palate) and extrinsic factors such as upper respiratory tract infection, laryngpharyngeal reflux, adenoid hypertrophy or other nasopharyngeal mass, mucociliary clearance disorder, and others. The symptoms of this syndrome included obstructed ear or sensation of water filling ear (aural fullness), conductive hearing loss, ringing in the ear, or autophony. This syndrome occurrence frequently seen in allergic rhinitis and chronic rhinosinusitis groups. This article described the basic sciences, diagnosis as well as the latest preventive measures in managing Eustachian Tube Dysfunction. This article aims to increase the medical community awareness about the condition of Eustachian Tube Dysfunction which often unnoticed, to decrease incidence and cost of disease in Indonesia.  Examination should consider tools availability and accessible in the primary, secondary and tertiary settings necessary to make diagnosis. The use of statistically validated and reliable questionnaires would improve anamnesis, such as Eustachius Tube Dysfunction Quessionaire-7, Total Nasal Symptoms Score, Nasal Obstruction Symptoms Evaluation, Reflux Symptoms Index. Basic examination of the ear and hearing using otoscopy and tunning fork like Rinne and Weber tests were also useful in the primare care setting. The combination of subjective and objective measurements will boost a better prognosis.

Abstract

Based on WHO (World Health Organization) data in November 2023, Indonesia was still ranked in the top two cases of Tuberculosis (TB) in the world. The increase in patients with resistance to Anti Tuberculosis Drugs (ATD) available in Indonesia was increasing. TB infections not only happened in adults but children were also a group that was vulnerable to TB infection. The central and regional government had prepared various strategies to archive the elimination of TB in Indonesia by 2030.The strategies that had been prepared by the Indonesian government require support from the entire community, especially health workers. Exposed to TB elimination program had been carried out by both central and regional governments. Various trainings regarding the recognition of TB disease, therapy and programs to increase TB detection had been held by the government. How ever not all levels of society, even health worker, were exposed to this TB elimination program. Until 2024 the TB elimination program is still focused on increasing the number of TB cases detection. This shows that strong efforts from the government are still needed to achieve TB elimination. The government need to be more aggressive in disseminating information about TB elimination programs through mass media, conducting seminars or training for health workers and the community. It is hoped that this action can increase case findings and cure rate of TB by as much as 90 percent so the incidence of infection can decrease significantly in the next couple years.
