First published in 2024, the journal is issued quarterly in February, May, August, and November. It provides an academic platform for scholars, researchers, legal practitioners, policymakers, and other stakeholders to examine issues concerning Palestine and their relevance to Indonesian society from legal, social, political, cultural, and humanitarian perspectives. The journal publishes original research articles, review articles, conceptual studies, and other scholarly works within its scope. It welcomes interdisciplinary research addressing Indonesia’s legal and political positions on Palestinian rights, foreign relations, humanitarian assistance, international solidarity, public opinion, civil society, social movements, historical developments, and cultural expressions related to Palestine. The journal also encourages studies examining the influence of Palestinian issues on Indonesian law, politics, society, and culture. The journal applies a double-anonymous peer-review process and an Open Access Policy, providing free and immediate access to published articles. Abstract

This paper examines the role of Palestinian solidarity in shaping Indonesian national identity and civic movements. As an emerging global power, Indonesia has long used its solidarity with Palestine as a key feature of its foreign policy and national identity. This study explores how Indonesian society mobilizes around Palestinian issues, integrating historical, political, and cultural contexts. By employing a qualitative analysis of civil society organizations, grassroots movements, and religious groups, the paper reveals that solidarity with Palestine is deeply ingrained in the national psyche, driven by shared anti-colonial sentiments and Islamic values. Public demonstrations, humanitarian aid, and diplomatic advocacy are the primary mechanisms through which solidarity is expressed. The research also discusses how the Palestinian cause intersects with issues of national pride, global justice, and Indonesia's role as a leader in the Muslim world. This study highlights how civic movements in Indonesia go beyond charity work and evolve into more politically significant activism, reflecting broader trends of global civil society engagement.

Abstract

This article explores the transformation of Indonesian Islamic organizations' involvement in Palestinian solidarity, shifting from charity-based efforts to more politically motivated advocacy. Organizations such as Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama have long been at the forefront of Indonesia’s humanitarian response to Palestine. However, in recent years, there has been a shift toward political engagement, advocating for Palestine not only through charitable donations but also through political campaigns, public protests, and calls for government action. This study analyzes the evolution of Islamic organizations' advocacy efforts, drawing from archival records, interviews with key figures, and analysis of political discourse. It argues that this shift represents a broader change in Indonesian Islamic civil society, moving from religious duty to politically-oriented activism. The paper further examines how Islamic leaders navigate the intersection of domestic political interests and international solidarity, shaping both national identity and foreign policy agendas.

Abstract

This paper investigates how Palestinian issues are represented in Indonesian media and how these portrayals shape public opinion. Through a content analysis of newspapers, television broadcasts, and online media, this study identifies key themes in the Indonesian media’s representation of Palestine, focusing on issues of human rights, Islam, and international diplomacy. In addition to media analysis, public opinion surveys were conducted to gauge the extent of support for Palestine among the Indonesian population. The research reveals a high level of public sympathy for Palestine, with media depictions often highlighting themes of injustice, resistance, and religious solidarity. This study argues that media representation plays a significant role in shaping public attitudes toward Palestine, influencing both grassroots movements and political discourse in Indonesia. The paper also addresses the role of media in fostering a national narrative of solidarity and resistance, underscoring the intersection of domestic media practices with international geopolitical concerns.

Abstract

This article examines the political dynamics of solidarity movements in Indonesia that support Palestine. By analyzing the political discourse, social media campaigns, and activism surrounding the Palestinian cause, this paper identifies the key actors, networks, and strategies used in the mobilization of support. Drawing on theories of collective action and political mobilization, the study explores how various Indonesian social groups, including youth activists, labor unions, and religious organizations, have come together to advocate for Palestinian rights. It highlights the role of political framing, including the use of religious and anti-colonial narratives, in mobilizing collective action. Furthermore, the paper explores how Palestinian solidarity movements in Indonesia are influenced by domestic political factors, such as government policies, regional power dynamics, and the broader Muslim world's position on Palestine. The study concludes by discussing the broader implications of Indonesian solidarity for global social justice movements and its impact on Indonesia's political landscape.

Abstract

This paper explores how Indonesian civil society engages with international humanitarian law in the context of Palestinian rights. In particular, it focuses on the legal frameworks used by Indonesian legal experts, activists, and organizations to advocate for Palestinian sovereignty and human rights. Drawing from case studies, legal documents, and interviews with prominent legal scholars and practitioners, the paper examines how Indonesian legal professionals navigate the complexities of international law to advocate for Palestine. This includes efforts to hold Israel accountable for violations of international law, as well as initiatives to promote Palestinian rights in Indonesian foreign policy. The study also evaluates the role of legal mobilization in shaping public discourse around Palestine, highlighting the intersection of legal activism and public opinion. It argues that legal interventions, rooted in human rights frameworks, have become a central pillar of Indonesia’s response to the Palestinian cause.

Abstract

This paper analyzes the discourse surrounding Palestinian struggles in Indonesian Friday sermons, focusing on how religious leaders use their platforms to discuss the Palestinian cause. Using a qualitative discourse analysis of sermons delivered across mosques in Indonesia, the study investigates how Palestinian issues are framed in terms of Islamic solidarity, resistance, and justice. The paper explores the rhetorical strategies employed by Islamic clerics, examining how religious narratives intersect with political advocacy, religious duty, and international solidarity. In particular, it identifies how Friday sermons serve as a space for the intersection of religious teachings with global political concerns, including discussions of human rights violations and the occupation of Palestinian territories. This study finds that while Indonesian religious leaders frequently emphasize the moral and theological aspects of supporting Palestine, there is also a notable shift toward politically charged messages that align with Indonesia's broader foreign policy objectives. The research sheds light on the role of religious institutions in shaping public opinion on international issues, as well as the importance of religious discourse in mobilizing political activism within Muslim-majority societies.

This paper examines the role of social media activism in supporting Palestine within Indonesia, focusing on how Indonesian netizens engage with global solidarity movements for Palestine. By analyzing popular social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, the study investigates the strategies used by Indonesian youth to mobilize online support for Palestine, including hashtags like #SavePalestine and #FreePalestine. It explores how social media serves as a tool for spreading information, organizing protests, and generating political discourse in Indonesia. Through a case study of key Indonesian social media accounts, posts, and online movements, this paper identifies how digital activism fosters a sense of global citizenship and solidarity among Indonesians. It also analyzes the challenges of online activism, including misinformation, digital censorship, and the complexities of translating local political ideologies into a global discourse. The study highlights the significance of social media in shaping Indonesia’s broader public opinion on Palestine, underscoring its impact on political consciousness among youth and its potential in shaping the nation's political and social landscape.

Abstract

This study explores the role of TikTok and other new media platforms in shaping political consciousness about Palestine among Indonesian youth. Focusing on the hashtag #FreePalestine, this paper investigates how Indonesian TikTok users engage with global political movements, focusing on the ways in which short-form video content is used to mobilize, educate, and advocate for Palestinian rights. Through an analysis of TikTok videos, trends, and user engagement, this paper assesses the efficacy of TikTok in raising awareness of Palestinian struggles, fostering a sense of solidarity, and prompting political action. The study highlights the way in which TikTok serves as an alternative space for political discourse outside traditional media outlets, allowing youth to express opinions, spread messages of activism, and critique national and international policies. By focusing on the interactions between Indonesian youth and the #FreePalestine campaign, the paper sheds light on how social media and digital activism intersect with generational shifts in political engagement. This paper ultimately explores how new media platforms like TikTok are reshaping political activism and solidarity movements in Indonesia.

This paper examines how Palestinian issues are incorporated into Indonesian educational discourse, particularly in relation to political history and moral education. The study analyzes textbooks, curricula, and classroom discussions on Palestine in Indonesian schools, focusing on how educators frame the Palestinian struggle as part of global history and Islamic moral teachings. By studying the role of Palestinian solidarity in educational settings, the paper investigates how Palestinian issues are presented to students within the context of Indonesian foreign policy, religious values, and national identity. It explores the impact of these educational practices on Indonesian youth’s understanding of Palestine, political conflicts, and global justice. The research shows that while Palestinian issues are often framed in terms of Islamic solidarity, there is also a broader moral discourse on justice, human rights, and anti-colonial resistance. This paper argues that the Palestinian cause, while politically charged, is predominantly treated as a moral issue in Indonesian education, with implications for shaping future generations' attitudes toward global politics and human rights.

This paper explores the intersection of Islamic philanthropy and political Islam in fundraising efforts for Palestine in Indonesian society. It investigates the role of Islamic charitable organizations and religious institutions in mobilizing financial and material resources to support Palestinian causes, with a focus on the growing trend of political Islam influencing charitable initiatives. Using case studies of major Indonesian Islamic organizations, such as Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama, the paper analyzes how they leverage both religious duty and political ideology to advocate for Palestine. The research examines the motivations behind these fundraising campaigns, the types of resources mobilized, and the impact of these efforts on Indonesian public opinion and foreign policy. The study also delves into the broader political implications of this form of philanthropy, arguing that Islamic charitable actions for Palestine are increasingly intertwined with political Islam, which advocates for solidarity with oppressed Muslim populations globally. The paper contributes to understanding how political and religious movements in Indonesia use philanthropy not only as a tool for humanitarian aid but also as a vehicle for political activism in support of Palestine.
