Abstract

This study examines the effect of institutional ownership and managerial ownership on the performance of companies in trade, services, and investment listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the period 2021-2023. The analysis technique used is multiple linear regression analysis and the data collection technique used is purposive sampling. In the study, company performance was measured using Return on Assets (ROA). The results of the study indicate that the first and second hypotheses are rejected, namely institutional ownership does not have a significant effect on company performance, while managerial ownership has a significant negative effect on company performance.

Abstract

This study focuses on analyzing the cost of capital as a key element in financial decision-making within manufacturing companies in Indonesia. The main objective is to assess the impact of expected return, dividend policy, and systematic risk on the cost of capital, both simultaneously and partially. A quantitative approach was employed using multiple linear regression analysis, with secondary data collected from annual financial reports and market information spanning the years 2020 to 2024. The findings reveal that jointly, the three independent variables significantly influence the cost of capital. However, on a partial basis, only the expected return variable shows a statistically significant and positive effect. In contrast, dividend policy and systematic risk do not exhibit significant influence, and their directional relationships contradict the initial hypotheses. These results suggest that investors’ return expectations play a crucial role in shaping a company’s capital structure, while the effects of dividend policy and systematic risk require further investigation due to their inconsistent outcomes. This study offers practical insights for corporate management and policymakers in formulating effective financing strategies that are responsive to dynamic market conditions.

Abstract

This research examines the impact of economic activities on water quality pollution of the Deli River in Silalas Village, West Medan Sub-district, Medan City. The Deli River, once the lifeblood of trade and commerce, is now severely degraded due to the discharge of various types of waste, including household garbage, small business waste and cottage industry waste, all of which contribute to the murky, pungent-smelling and waste-filled water condition. The absence of adequate sewage treatment systems makes the river a major dumping ground for economic actors. The impact of this pollution extends to public health, causing illnesses such as itching, skin infections, diarrhea, and fever due to the continued use of polluted river water for daily needs due to economic constraints. In addition, the river ecosystem is also disrupted, affecting fish populations and overall environmental sustainability. Despite efforts from the government and related agencies, uneven monitoring and education as well as the lack of waste management facilities show a lack of effectiveness in addressing this issue. Long-term solutions require synergy between the government, businesses, and citizens, through strict enforcement of regulations, improved waste management facilities, and continuous environmental education to restore the Deli River as a clean and healthy water resource.

Abstract

The recurring phenomenon of flooding in various parts of Indonesia, including Kelurahan Aur in Medan Maimun Sub-district, reflects the weak implementation of environmental policies despite being regulated in Law No. 32/2009 on Environmental Protection and Management. This research aims to comprehensively identify and analyse the factors that cause flooding in Kelurahan Aur through a qualitative approach based on field data. Data was collected through in-depth interviews and direct observation of the community and the surrounding environment, with the support of secondary data from relevant literature. The results show that flooding in Kelurahan Aur is caused by the interaction between internal and external factors, such as environmentally unfriendly community behaviour, population density without good spatial management, and inadequate drainage infrastructure. On the other hand, environmental degradation in upstream areas, uncontrolled urbanisation, and global climate change also exacerbate the intensity and frequency of flooding. In addition to the physical aspects, low public awareness and participation in environmental management are the main obstacles to flood mitigation efforts.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the contribution of the increase in Indonesia’s coffee exports during the 2021-2024 period in supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the study draws on secondary data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), government ministry reports, academic literature, and international publications related to coffee exports and their broader impacts. The findings reveal that the rise in coffee exports has significantly contributed to national economic growth, increased farmers' income, job creation, and strengthened local economies. Furthermore, the coffee export sector has created greater opportunities for women’s participation in agriculture, particularly in the processing and production stages, supporting the achievement of SDG 5 on gender equality. Moreover, the growth in coffee exports plays a role in reducing economic inequality (SDG 10) by improving market access for smallholder farmers and driving infrastructure investment in rural coffee-producing areas. In the context of responsible consumption and production (SDG 12), growing global demand has encouraged the transition toward more sustainable farming practices, including organic agriculture and circular economy initiatives such as reusing coffee waste. These findings highlight that coffee exports serve not only as an economic driver but also as a vehicle for inclusive and environmentally sustainable development.

Abstract

Economic development is not only aimed at boosting economic growth but also at reducing unemployment, poverty, and income inequality between regions. The objective of this study is to conduct σ convergence and β convergence analysis, which can be used to measure the speed of convergence. This study employs panel data regression, utilizing secondary data combining time series (2017–2024) and cross-sectional data (districts/cities in East Nusa Tenggara Province), sourced from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). Based on the results of sigma convergence, it was found that during the period 2017-2024, East Nusa Tenggara Province experienced fluctuations, moving from divergence toward convergence, and in 2024, it experienced stagnation/slight divergence. Meanwhile, from the results of beta convergence analysis, it was found that only the HDI variable significantly influences the increase in GRDP at present.

Abstract

The development of Kupang Smart City cannot be separated from the aspect of smart people who act as promoters of new innovation creation and urban development. Essentially, the starting point for implementing smart city initiatives in Kupang differs from other major cities; the main challenge lies in human resources. This research aims to explore the role and effectiveness of smart people, as well as the collaborative efforts of the pentahelix, in accelerating the implementation of smart city initiatives in Kupang. This qualitative descriptive study employs both literature review and field study methods. The findings indicate that the role of smart people is crucial in realizing the vision of Kupang Smart City. They are instrumental in adopting digital technology, providing feedback, and generating new innovations to enhance urban services and infrastructure. Additionally, the pentahelix collaboration plays a vital role in creating holistic and sustainable solutions. However, the role of smart people still needs improvement through motivation, strengthening of digital literacy, digital interaction, and increasing community feedback in the evaluation of Kupang Smart City programs.

Abstract

The study aims to analyze the influence of education, income, and business capital on labor absorption in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Aikmel District, East Lombok Regency. This type of research uses quantitative research. This study used 87 respondents who were taken randomly from a total population of 677 SME units using a random sampling technique based on the Slovin formula. Primary data were obtained through questionnaires and analyzed using multiple linear regression techniques using SPSS software. The findings of this study indicate that the variables of education (β = 1.046; p = 0.036) and income (β = 1.207; p = 0.025) have a positive and significant influence on labor absorption, while business capital does not show a significant influence (p = 0.639). The results of simultaneous testing (F Test) show that the overall regression model is significant in predicting the dependent variable Y, as evidenced by the F value reaching 21,658 with a significance level of 0.000 (p <0.05). This indicates that at least one of the independent variables (X1, X2, or X3) has a significant effect on Y. The result of the coefficient of determination (R²) test is 0.714, indicating that the independent variable can explain 71.4% of the variation in labor absorption. This finding confirms that improving the quality of human resources through education and increasing business income is more effective in supporting labor absorption than simply increasing business capital. This study also emphasizes the importance of skills training programs and business support for SMEs as well as the development of relevant policies to support business expansion and job creation in the area.
