Pesticides are a mixture of substances used to control pests, plants, or animals. The inappropriate uses can cause serious problems for farmers. About 3 million cases of global pesticide acute poisoning, 25 million mild acute poisonings, and 300.000 deaths. The inhalation route is the main entry route for chemicals and pesticides. Exposure through inhalation associated with respiratory pathology, can cause respiratory symptoms due to the accumulation of pesticide substances in the respiratory tract. Inhaled pesticides will be stored in the human respiratory tract indicating damage and irritation of respiratory organs, which can cause serious respiratory symptoms. This review aimed to summarize the association between pesticides exposure and respiratory symptoms in agroindustrial farmers. This systematic review was reported based on criteria from Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). A literature search was conducted with electronic databases, such as PubMed, ScienceDirect, Cochrane Library, and Portal Garuda. P-value with the confidence interval (CI) of 95% was used to determine the association between pesticides exposure and respiratory symptoms. Ten studies were included in the qualitative synthesis. The current study showed pesticides exposure increases respiratory symptoms in farmers. Farmers who use pesticides have a greater frequency of respiratory symptoms than other farmers. Organochlorine and organophosphate have a significant risk of causing respiratory problems, such as cough, phlegm, wheezing, and shortness of breath. Conclusion: This systematic review provides valuable evidence suggesting the correlation between pesticides exposure and respiratory symptoms in agroindustrial farmers.

Background: Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is the most common vaginal disease affecting approximately 30% of women aged between 15 and 44 years. Bacterial vaginosis (BV) can be caused by anaerobic bacteria, including Gardnerella vaginalis, Prevotella spp., Bacteroides spp., Mobiluncus spp. The current first-line BV therapy is oral metronidazole twice daily for 7 days, but the recurrent rate is more than 50% within 12 months after treatment. Risk factors for BV were associated with racial origin, smoking, level of education, vaginal douching, sexual behavior and hygine behavior. Many microorganisms that cause BV, the high rate of recurrent BV on treatment with metronidazole and the many risk factors for BV were the reasons for this study. Objective: To determine the bacteriological profile and risk factors of recurrent bacterial vaginosis at the Tanggul health center. Method: This study used a descriptive study with etiological data taken from vaginal secretory specimen culture using Vitek 2 Compact, risk factor data taken from interviews and SRQ-20 questionnaire results. Result: A total of 5 specimens of vaginal secretions were identified as E. coli (83.3%) and 1 was identified as K. pneumoniae (16.6%). The description of the risk factors found were age over 46 years (66.7%), work as a housewife (66.7%) and as a farmer (33.3%), high school education level (66.7%), habit of changing underwear <3 times a day (100%), vaginal douching habits (50%), use of hormonal contraceptives (66.7%), frequency of sexual intercourse >2 times a week (33,3%) and high stress levels (66.7%). Conclusion: The etiological species of recurrent BV found were E. coli and K. pneumoniae. The risk factors found were age over 46 years, occupation, education level, habit of changing underpants <3x a day, habit of vaginal douching, use of contraception, frequency of intercourse and high stress level.

Meningococcal meningitis is brain membrane (meninges) inflammation caused by Neisseria meningitidis (Meningococcus) bacteria. In the child population, meningococcal meningitis is a rapid-onset disease with high morbidity and mortality rates. In this case, a 7-year-old boy admitted to the Emergency Room of dr. Soebandi Hospital, Jember, presented with seizure, decreased of consciousness, fever, and positive meningeal signs. The results of laboratory and radiological investigations showed bacterial meningitis caused by Neisseria meningitidis bacteria. This patient was treated with antibiotics, symptomatic and supportive medication, which gave a good result. It is important to publish all clinical findings, laboratory examinations, and management of this case so that health workers are aware of the spread possibility of meningococcal meningitis.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infection caused by SARS-CoV-2. The course of the disease often has more severe clinical symptoms if accompanied by a bacterial infection, known as co-infection or secondary bacterial infection. Apart from having a clinical impact, it also causes the use of more antibiotics, increasing antibiotic resistance. To overcome this, we need data showing the most frequent etiologic agents of bacterial coinfection in patients with COVID-19. This systematic review aims to determine the etiologic agent of the most common secondary bacterial infection in COVID-19. This systematic review is presented based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) criteria. The electronic databases used for the literature search are; PubMed, ScienceDirect, CochraneLibrary, and Google Scholar. Keywords used in the electronic database are described using Boolean operators as follows: (("SARS-CoV-2 Infection" OR "Coronavirus Disease 19" OR "COVID-19") AND ("Secondary Bacterial Infection" OR "Bacterial Co-infection”)). All literature was selected taking into account the eligibility criteria and reference standards. The protocol of this review has been registered in International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO) with the registration number is CRD42022331998. Eleven studies were included in the qualitative synthesis. The results of the study showed that Gram-negative bacteria were the most common etiologic agents. These bacteria include Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This systematic review provides valuable evidence of the most frequent etiologic agents of secondary bacterial infection in COVID-19 patients.

Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP) is a type of nosocomial infection that occurs after 48-72 hours of endotracheal intubation with a high mortality rate and is most commonly seen in hospital ICUs The high mortality rate in VAP cases could, among other things, be caused by the emergence of multidrug resistant (MDR) species that may be caused by irrational use of antibiotics. The existence of an antibiogram is expected to solve the problem. This study aimed to form a VAP antibiogram of dr. Soebandi Hospital in Jember City, East Java, Indonesia, can be used to reference rational therapy.This research is a descriptive study using secondary data obtained from medical records. The data will be collected and analyzed in a univariate manner, and then the analysis results will be displayed in graphs and tables. The number of samples used was 37 medical record data that matched the criteria and obtained 39 isolates. Of the 39 isolates, 22 different types of bacteria were obtained. These bacteria come from 7 different families. In addition, of the 39 identified types of bacteria, 29 of them were Gram-negative bacteria (74%), the remaining 10 were Gram-positive bacteria (26%). The antibiotics with the most useful and have a sensitivity level of more than 50% in this study were amikacin (77%), piperacillin-tazobactam (65%), and cephalexin (54%). These three antibiotics are also available in the parenteral form be used as empirical therapy for VAP.
