It is a double anonymous peer-reviewed academic journal focusing on the relationship between sports, law, and justice in Indonesia and related contexts. The journal publishes scholarly works examining legal frameworks, regulations, governance, integrity, fairness, equality, and social justice in the sports sector. It welcomes studies on athletes’ rights, access and participation, discrimination, sports governance, dispute resolution, ethical practices, sports organizations, and the legal and social dimensions of the sports industry. The journal encourages interdisciplinary research connecting sports and law with human rights, social sciences, economics, public policy, and related fields. It publishes original research articles, review articles, case studies, and other scholarly works relevant to its scope. The journal applies an Open Access Policy, providing free and immediate access to published articles. Abstract

Gender inequality remains a persistent challenge in Indonesia’s sports sector, where women face barriers to equal access, representation, and recognition in athletics. This paper explores the state of gender equality in Indonesian sports, critically assessing the policies and societal norms that contribute to the marginalization of female athletes. By analyzing government initiatives, sports federations, and media representations of female athletes, this study identifies the key structural obstacles that hinder women's participation in sports at various levels. Interviews with athletes, coaches, and policy-makers, alongside a review of gender equity frameworks in sports governance, form the basis of this research. The paper argues that achieving gender justice in sports requires not only policy reforms but also a cultural shift towards valuing female athleticism and providing equal opportunities for both genders in training, competition, and leadership roles. Recommendations for addressing gender disparities in Indonesian sports include enhanced funding for women's sports programs, equitable media coverage, and stronger legal protections against discrimination.

Abstract

Access to sports and recreational activities is a critical component of social inclusion and individual well-being. This paper examines Indonesia’s sports policies with a focus on inclusivity and equity, highlighting the barriers faced by marginalized groups, including women, people with disabilities, and economically disadvantaged communities. Through policy analysis, case studies, and interviews with stakeholders in Indonesia’s sports sector, the study assesses how national and regional policies promote or hinder equitable access to sports facilities, coaching, and competitions. It explores the role of government and non-governmental organizations in ensuring that sports serve as a tool for social justice, fostering social cohesion and individual empowerment. The paper concludes by proposing a more inclusive sports framework that prioritizes accessibility for all citizens, regardless of gender, socio-economic background, or physical ability, through targeted investment, community-based initiatives, and stronger enforcement of anti-discrimination laws in sports.

Abstract

Gender discrimination in sports remains a significant issue in Indonesia, where women and girls face systemic obstacles to participation, advancement, and recognition in athletics. This paper investigates the persistent barriers to gender equity in Indonesia’s sports landscape, focusing on discriminatory practices at both grassroots and elite levels. Using a combination of interviews with female athletes, coaches, and sports administrators, alongside an analysis of policy documents, the study uncovers how cultural norms, limited funding, and institutional biases contribute to gender-based disparities in sports. The research also explores how women’s sports have been historically undervalued in terms of media representation, sponsorship, and leadership opportunities. This paper argues for the need for a multi-faceted approach to combat gender discrimination, including reforms to sports education, better media coverage of women’s sports, and legal protections for female athletes. The findings advocate for a cultural shift that recognizes and values the contributions of women in sports.

Abstract

Sports in Indonesia hold significant potential to foster social justice, national unity, and reconciliation among the country’s diverse ethnic, religious, and social groups. This paper examines the role of sports as a tool for promoting inclusivity and unity in post-conflict Indonesia, particularly in bridging divides between urban and rural populations, and between different ethnic and religious communities. Through an analysis of government-sponsored sports initiatives, grassroots programs, and major sporting events, the study explores how sports can act as a vehicle for social change by promoting values such as fairness, teamwork, and mutual respect. Case studies of successful national and regional sporting events, such as the PON (Pekan Olahraga Nasional) and community-level sports programs, illustrate the potential of sports to address social inequalities and bring diverse groups together. The paper concludes with recommendations on how to leverage sports for broader social justice goals, including the integration of sports programs into national policies on peacebuilding, education, and cultural exchange.

Abstract

Corruption remains a pervasive issue in the management and organization of sporting events in Indonesia, undermining the integrity and fairness of the sector. This paper critically examines the legal and ethical challenges posed by corruption in Indonesian sports, with a focus on the misallocation of funds, match-fixing, and fraudulent practices in event management. Drawing on case studies of high-profile scandals in Indonesian football and other sports, as well as interviews with legal experts, sports administrators, and athletes, the paper analyzes the structural and systemic factors that enable corruption in the sports sector. It explores how these corrupt practices affect the development of sports, public trust, and the welfare of athletes. The study also assesses the effectiveness of current anti-corruption laws and sports governance frameworks in Indonesia. The paper concludes with policy recommendations aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability, and ethical governance in Indonesian sports organizations, advocating for stricter regulations, independent oversight, and cultural change within the sector.

Abstract

Youth sports in Indonesia play a crucial role in shaping the athletic development of young people, yet unequal access to resources and opportunities across social and economic divides poses a significant challenge to achieving social justice in this sector. This paper examines the barriers faced by youth from marginalized communities—particularly those in rural areas or from lower socio-economic backgrounds—in accessing quality athletic development programs. Drawing on data from national and regional sports policies, interviews with community leaders, sports administrators, and youth athletes, the study assesses how existing programs and infrastructure fail to provide equitable opportunities for all young people. The paper further explores the role of the government, NGOs, and private sector in bridging these gaps and promoting a more inclusive youth sports ecosystem. Recommendations for ensuring equal access to sports opportunities include targeted investment in rural areas, building community-based sports facilities, and integrating social justice principles into sports policy frameworks.

Abstract

Disabled athletes in Indonesia face significant challenges in accessing competitive and recreational sports opportunities, contributing to broader social inequalities. This paper explores the barriers to inclusion faced by disabled individuals in Indonesia’s sports system, including physical, financial, and attitudinal obstacles. By analyzing existing policies, examining sports infrastructure, and gathering perspectives from disabled athletes, coaches, and disability advocacy organizations, this research provides a comprehensive view of the state of disability sports in Indonesia. The paper evaluates the legal framework surrounding disability rights and sports inclusion, emphasizing the need for policy reforms that ensure fair access and opportunities for disabled athletes. It also discusses the role of the media and public perception in shaping attitudes towards disabled athletes. The study concludes with recommendations for improving accessibility, including adaptive sports facilities, inclusive coaching programs, and better legal protections for disabled athletes in Indonesia’s sporting landscape.

Abstract

Women in Indonesia face enduring gender-based barriers in the sports sector, from underrepresentation in elite competitions to gender stereotypes that restrict their participation in certain sports. This paper explores the role of sports in empowering women and advancing gender justice in Indonesia. Through qualitative interviews with female athletes, sports officials, and gender justice advocates, alongside an analysis of sports policies, the study investigates how gender inequality manifests within the Indonesian sports system. It further explores the ways in which sports can serve as a tool for challenging gender norms, promoting female leadership, and enhancing social mobility for women. By examining both successful and failed initiatives aimed at promoting gender equality in sports, this paper advocates for systemic changes, including gender-sensitive policies, the promotion of women’s sports at all levels, and educational campaigns to combat gender-based discrimination in sports culture.

The governance of sports organizations in Indonesia is integral to ensuring fairness, transparency, and ethical standards in the country’s sports landscape. This paper examines the current state of sports governance in Indonesia, focusing on how management practices, decision-making processes, and institutional structures affect justice in sports. Through case studies of major Indonesian sporting bodies and interviews with key stakeholders, the study analyzes the ethical and legal challenges faced by sports organizations in maintaining fair play and equitable access for all athletes. It critiques the influence of political and commercial interests on sports governance and explores the role of the government, sports federations, and civil society in promoting good governance practices. The paper concludes by proposing measures to enhance accountability, such as stronger anti-corruption mechanisms, transparent selection processes for athletes, and the implementation of fair-play policies across all levels of competition.

The commercialization of sports in Indonesia has brought both significant investment and complex ethical dilemmas, particularly in elite sports programs where financial interests sometimes conflict with the ideals of fair play and social equity. This paper examines the impact of commercialization on sports justice, focusing on how commercial interests shape the access and opportunities available to athletes, particularly in high-profile sports like football, badminton, and basketball. By analyzing sponsorship deals, media coverage, and the financial structure of elite sports programs, this study explores the tension between generating revenue and maintaining the integrity of sports competition. The paper also assesses the effects of commercialization on athlete welfare, including exploitation, unequal pay, and performance pressures. Drawing on interviews with athletes, managers, and sports economists, the paper proposes reforms that balance financial sustainability with the values of fairness, inclusion, and ethical responsibility.
