Indonesian Sports Justice Review
Indonesian Sports Justice Review (e-ISSN: 3164-6867) is published by COLLEGIUM JUSTICIA INDONESIA, issued four times a year in January, April, July, and October, and was first published in 2024. It is a double anonymous peer-reviewed academic journal focusing on the relationship between sports, law, and justice in Indonesia and related contexts. The journal publishes scholarly works examining legal frameworks, regulations, governance, integrity, fairness, equality, and social justice in the sports sector. It welcomes studies on athletes’ rights, access and participation, discrimination, sports governance, dispute resolution, ethical practices, sports organizations, and the legal and social dimensions of the sports industry. The journal encourages interdisciplinary research connecting sports and law with human rights, social sciences, economics, public policy, and related fields. It publishes original research articles, review articles, case studies, and other scholarly works relevant to its scope. The journal applies an Open Access Policy, providing free and immediate access to published articles. Copyright is retained by the authors, and articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license.

<![CDATA[The media plays a crucial role in shaping public perceptions of athletes and sports culture, influencing both the visibility of athletes and the broader discourse around sports justice. This paper examines how media outlets in Indonesia represent athletes, with a particular focus on gender and ethnicity, and how these representations impact societal attitudes toward equity in sports. It investigates the underrepresentation of female athletes and athletes from marginalized ethnic groups, assessing how this lack of visibility affects opportunities, sponsorships, and career advancement. The study highlights both the positive and negative roles that media can play in either reinforcing or challenging stereotypes, and offers recommendations for more inclusive sports media coverage. By exploring media strategies, policy changes, and ethical considerations, the paper calls for a more just media landscape that supports diversity in sports representation.]]>

<![CDATA[Access to sports education is a fundamental aspect of creating an equitable sporting culture, yet many underprivileged youth in Indonesia remain excluded from these opportunities. This paper explores the barriers to sports education for low-income and rural youth, examining the systemic inequalities that prevent them from participating in athletic programs. It looks at issues such as limited access to sports facilities, lack of trained coaches, and inadequate school programs in disadvantaged areas. The study also assesses how these disparities perpetuate cycles of inequality in sports, reducing opportunities for talent development and professional advancement. The paper advocates for inclusive sports policies that ensure all youth, regardless of socioeconomic background, have access to quality sports education. Additionally, it explores community-based models of sports education as a potential solution to bridge the gap.]]>

This paper investigates how sports programs in Indonesia are being used as a tool for development, focusing on how athletic programs are integrated into community development efforts. It explores examples of programs that promote gender equality, youth empowerment, and health education, analyzing their success in effecting social change. Through interviews with community leaders, sports administrators, and participants, the study evaluates the effectiveness of sports for development initiatives in Indonesia and identifies key strategies for scaling up these programs. The paper concludes by proposing policies to better support the integration of sports programs into national development agendas, particularly in underserved and rural regions.]]>

<![CDATA[Match-fixing and doping are critical issues that undermine the integrity of competitive sports and threaten the principle of fairness in athletic competitions. This paper examines the prevalence of match-fixing and doping in Indonesia’s sports landscape, investigating the legal, ethical, and social dimensions of these problems. Through case studies and interviews with athletes, coaches, and sports officials, the paper explores the root causes of these issues, including corruption, lack of accountability, and inadequate regulatory mechanisms. The study analyzes existing policies aimed at combating these practices and evaluates their effectiveness. It concludes with a set of recommendations for strengthening anti-doping and anti-fixing laws, increasing transparency, and fostering a culture of integrity in Indonesian sports.]]>

<![CDATA[Despite progress in gender equality in various sectors, women in Indonesian sports continue to face significant challenges, including limited access to resources, support, and media coverage. This paper examines the barriers that female athletes encounter in Indonesia, including institutional discrimination, societal expectations, and lack of adequate funding. It evaluates efforts to promote gender justice in sports, such as government policies, grassroots initiatives, and the role of female athletes in challenging stereotypes. The paper also discusses the broader societal impacts of promoting gender equality in sports, including the role of women in leadership positions and the visibility of women’s sports. Through case studies of successful female athletes and initiatives, this study proposes strategies to improve gender equality and create more equitable opportunities for women in Indonesian sports.]]>

<![CDATA[Racial discrimination remains a persistent issue in Indonesian sports, affecting athletes from ethnic minority groups, including indigenous peoples and ethnic Chinese Indonesians. This paper investigates how racial and ethnic minorities experience exclusion or marginalization in sports, both in terms of access to opportunities and representation. Drawing from legal frameworks and personal testimonies, the study explores how sports organizations in Indonesia contribute to or mitigate racial injustice. It critically assesses the effectiveness of anti-discrimination laws and policies, as well as the role of public attitudes and media representation in perpetuating or challenging these issues. The paper concludes with recommendations for creating a more inclusive sports environment, emphasizing the importance of diversity in leadership roles and the representation of ethnic minorities in all levels of Indonesian sports.]]>

This paper investigates the prevalence of corruption in Indonesian football and its legal and social consequences. By analyzing high-profile corruption scandals, the study examines how corruption impacts justice within the sport, from player exploitation to fan disillusionment. It evaluates the effectiveness of current legal frameworks and enforcement mechanisms in addressing corruption, and looks at the role of sports organizations, government bodies, and law enforcement in promoting accountability.
