It is a double anonymous peer-reviewed academic journal focusing on the relationship between sports, law, and justice in Indonesia and related contexts. The journal publishes scholarly works examining legal frameworks, regulations, governance, integrity, fairness, equality, and social justice in the sports sector. It welcomes studies on athletes’ rights, access and participation, discrimination, sports governance, dispute resolution, ethical practices, sports organizations, and the legal and social dimensions of the sports industry. The journal encourages interdisciplinary research connecting sports and law with human rights, social sciences, economics, public policy, and related fields. It publishes original research articles, review articles, case studies, and other scholarly works relevant to its scope. The journal applies an Open Access Policy, providing free and immediate access to published articles. Abstract

Diversity and inclusion are critical factors in ensuring fair representation and access to opportunities within Indonesia’s sports sector. This paper explores the legal framework that governs the inclusion of minority athletes—whether based on ethnicity, religion, or disability—within Indonesia's sports landscape. By reviewing national sports policies, legal protections for minority groups, and case studies from various sports federations, this study evaluates how effectively the legal system supports minority athletes. The research further examines the challenges faced by these athletes, from cultural biases to inadequate infrastructure, and suggests legislative reforms to create an inclusive sports environment. Through qualitative interviews with minority athletes and sports administrators, the paper outlines strategies to enhance diversity and inclusion in Indonesian sports, focusing on legal provisions, institutional support, and grassroots initiatives.

Abstract

Racial and ethnic inequality remains a persistent issue in Indonesia’s sports sector, where certain communities continue to face systemic barriers in accessing sports opportunities and achieving success in elite competitions. This paper investigates the role of racial and ethnic inequality in Indonesian sports, focusing on the representation of marginalized ethnic groups in high-performance sports and the structural barriers to their participation. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, incorporating demographic analysis, interviews with athletes from underrepresented ethnic backgrounds, and an examination of sports policies and funding allocation. The paper critically assesses how stereotypes, lack of access to quality training facilities, and limited cultural acceptance affect athletes from minority groups. The study concludes by offering policy recommendations to promote fair representation, including targeted support for ethnic minorities, anti-discrimination measures, and the role of the media in fostering inclusivity.

Abstract

While sports are an essential tool for social mobility and community empowerment, rural youth in Indonesia face significant challenges in accessing sports programs and facilities. This paper examines the barriers that rural communities encounter in sports development, including geographical isolation, lack of resources, and limited government investment. Through field research in several rural areas of Indonesia, the study identifies the gap between urban and rural sports infrastructure, as well as the disparities in athletic opportunities. It explores the roles of government, NGOs, and local sports clubs in addressing these challenges and proposes a model for developing sustainable sports programs that provide equal opportunities for rural youth. The paper highlights successful case studies of community-driven initiatives and recommends strategies to overcome systemic inequalities, such as mobile sports units, government grants, and public-private partnerships.

Abstract

As the sports industry in Indonesia continues to grow, so too does the need for effective mechanisms to protect athletes’ rights. This paper explores the role of sports organizations in advocating for athlete welfare and protecting their human rights, particularly in a country where issues such as exploitation, inadequate health services, and unethical management practices are prevalent. By examining case studies of high-profile Indonesian athletes and investigating the policies of key sports organizations, the study highlights the challenges athletes face in terms of labor rights, personal safety, and representation. The paper also considers the role of sports unions and advocacy groups in championing athlete rights and discusses the legal frameworks that support or hinder these efforts. The study concludes with recommendations for enhancing athlete protection, including stronger regulations, independent oversight bodies, and comprehensive athlete support programs.

Abstract

Access to quality sports infrastructure is a fundamental issue in ensuring equitable opportunities for athletes in Indonesia. This paper explores the justice of sports infrastructure, focusing on the disparities between urban and rural areas in terms of sports facilities and access to athletic training. The study assesses how the lack of infrastructure in local communities limits the potential of young athletes and hinders the development of sports at the grassroots level. Drawing on field research from multiple regions, the paper investigates how government policies, public investment, and private sector involvement have shaped sports infrastructure development. It also considers how local communities can be empowered to advocate for better facilities and support for grassroots sports. The paper advocates for a more equitable distribution of sports infrastructure and the creation of policies that prioritize community-based sports programs, aiming to provide opportunities for all athletes, regardless of their socio-economic background.

Abstract

In Indonesia, sports have long been intertwined with political agendas, influencing both public policy and the broader societal landscape. This paper explores the role of the government in shaping sports justice, particularly how political decisions affect equity, resource allocation, and opportunities for athletes. Through an analysis of government involvement in national sports programs, infrastructure development, and the regulation of sports bodies, the paper investigates the ways in which political motivations and power dynamics shape sports access and outcomes. It examines case studies of both positive and negative impacts, such as the distribution of funding, representation of ethnic and regional groups, and the politicization of elite sports programs. The study concludes by proposing recommendations for a more just and equitable sports system, with a focus on transparency, accountability, and the separation of sports from political exploitation.

Sports sponsorship plays a pivotal role in the financing of professional sports in Indonesia, but the practice raises important questions about economic justice and fairness. This paper examines the economic justice of sports sponsorship, with a focus on how sponsorship deals impact the equitable distribution of resources within the sports industry. It assesses the power dynamics between sponsors, sports organizations, and athletes, analyzing how large sponsorship deals often concentrate resources in elite sports while sidelining grassroots programs and less popular sports. The research explores the ethical considerations surrounding sponsorship, including issues of monopolization, exploitation of athletes, and the commercial pressures placed on sports federations. The paper argues for a more balanced approach to sponsorship, proposing models that ensure fairer financial distribution across all levels of sport and safeguard the interests of athletes and local communities.

Abstract

Corruption within the sports industry can undermine the integrity of athletic competitions, perpetuate inequality, and distort the intended goals of sports development. This paper investigates the prevalence of corruption in Indonesian sporting events and explores the role of transparency in addressing these issues. Through an examination of key scandals, including bribery in event management, match-fixing, and the misallocation of funding, the study highlights the detrimental effects of corruption on public trust, athlete performance, and the broader sports ecosystem. Drawing from interviews with sports officials, athletes, and anti-corruption experts, the paper proposes reforms to improve transparency, such as stronger regulatory bodies, independent auditing of sports organizations, and increased public oversight. It concludes with a call for a cultural shift toward integrity and accountability in Indonesian sports governance.

Abstract

Major sporting events in Indonesia, such as the Southeast Asian Games or the Indonesian Open, often serve as powerful symbols of national pride and unity. However, these events also reveal underlying social inequities that persist within the country. This paper examines how sports events reflect and sometimes exacerbate social justice issues, including ethnic inequality, regional disparities, and gender discrimination. It focuses on the ways in which the media, sponsorships, and state involvement in these events contribute to reinforcing or challenging social hierarchies. The study critically assesses how the representation of athletes from marginalized communities is often overshadowed by the media spotlight on elite performers from more privileged backgrounds. By exploring the intersection of sports, national identity, and social justice, the paper offers policy suggestions to ensure that national sporting events are used as platforms for promoting inclusivity and equity.

Abstract

Gender inequality remains a significant issue in Indonesian sports, particularly in leadership positions, where women continue to face systemic barriers to entry and advancement. This paper explores the gender gaps in sports leadership, analyzing the factors that contribute to the underrepresentation of women in decision-making roles within sports organizations, federations, and government bodies. The study highlights how gender biases, cultural norms, and limited opportunities for professional development hinder women's participation in sports governance. Through qualitative interviews with female athletes, coaches, and sports administrators, the paper identifies both institutional and societal barriers to gender equality in sports leadership. It concludes by proposing strategies for fostering a more inclusive sports system, including mentorship programs, gender quotas, and policy reforms aimed at promoting women's leadership in Indonesian sports.
