Abstract

Most Islamic boarding schools (pondok pesantren) are private educational institutions and had been institutionalized long before the existence of madrasah and all kinds of western education systems in Indonesia. The Islamic boarding schools perform themselves as centers for developing Indonesian man-power, inoculating the spirit of enterpreneurship, organizing agro-religious tourism activities, and developing strong relationships or good cynergetic activities with members of community surrounding the pesantren's. To develop and organize new schools or universities in the future, we can adopt the spirit of self-help or self-support as the heart of pesantren's doctrine. In other words, the essence of pesantren's system can be implemented in our system of national education

One of the nonlegislation policies is the implementation of a subject matter designed to develop a positive understanding and attitude toward environment reservation, either formally through school institutions or informally by information and counseling. Given information about the importance of environment conservation, one will be able to participate in any efforts to protect and maintain their environment and, in turn, perform substainable national development

Abstract

The writing of this article is motivated by the practice in the teaching of speaking skills in the English Department which seems to encounter several challenges, three of which are: absence of cross-cultural contexts, insufficient guidance on the part of the students in organizing ideas, and insufficiency in the instructional framework that the teacher implements to reach the pre-stated goal. To this end, an approach to instruction has been developed, which mainly rests on three theoretical frameworks: knowledge of the world, cultural thought pattern, and cooperative learning
