Abstract

This study addresses the question of how Islamic calligraphy functions as a community-based social movement in an urban village context. The research employs a qualitative case study approach, collecting data through interviews, non-participant observation, and document analysis. Findings indicate that the calligraphy movement in the Kampung KB Wisata Budaya and Kaligrafi Jibja is semi-organic, originating from a bottom-up initiative by two key figures and accelerated through top-down support from the Kampung KB program. The movement not only reinforces local cultural identity but also presents a sustainable model for community empowerment. The study emphasizes the significance of leveraging religious and cultural symbols in strengthening social movements at the village level and offers practical insights for formulating community-participation-based policies.

Abstract

This study explores the gap between expectations and the reality of fathers’ roles in child-rearing in Indonesia. Although awareness of the importance of fathers’ involvement has increased, its implementation still faces various structural, cultural, and personal barriers. Using a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design, this study involved three fathers with children aged 0–18 years in Bandung. Data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews. The findings indicate that fathers’ perceptions of the importance of involvement in child-rearing have improved; however, the division of roles remains largely traditional, with mothers positioned as the primary caregivers. Major challenges include work-related demands, limited parenting knowledge, a lack of family-friendly policies, and persistent social stigma. From the perspective of Berger and Luckmann’s social construction theory, this phenomenon suggests that gender roles in child-rearing are socially constructed and can be transformed through policy interventions, educational programs, and shifts in societal paradigms

Abstract

This paper discusses the local value of Sapangambei Manoktok Hitei, understood as a representation of mutual cooperation, solidarity, love, and equality that have been institutionalized in socio-religious life. Through the theory of ethnoreligious nationalism by Christophe Jaffrelot, this value is understood as a form of local nationalism that is the result of a fusion that forms a national identity from traditional roots. In addition, the theory of social solidarity by Emile Durkheim, especially the concept of organic solidarity, is used to interpret social relations in modern heterogeneous societies, where the differentiation of social functions and roles is actually the basis of social cohesion. This paper uses a descriptive qualitative method with an ethnographic approach and literature study to examine the role of philosophy in creating social cohesion, public spirituality, and expressions of local nationalism. Sapangambei Manoktok Hitei becomes a form of collective consciousness that unites differences in a common goal. Thus, this value functions as a symbolic force that unites society, ethnicity, and social interests.
